Il ne faut cependant pas oublier que tous ces critéres ne doivent géner ni la fonction manducatrice ni la prononciation des différents phonèmes. Ainsi, le plan de traitement en dentisterie esthétique découle d'une analyse minutieuse de la face au repos et lors du sourire, de la qualité du parodonte, et des dents présentes sur l'arcade. Cette nouvelle approche prothétique va contribuer à l'apparence naturelle de la restauration en évitant un effet de placage, car une prothése esthétique "réussie" doit tout autant à son apparence naturelle qu'à une adaptation biofonctionnelle équilibrée et que cette reconstruction doit se faire “oublier" par le patient. Cette analyse nous conduit ainsi à un essai de "rationalisation" de l'esthétique dentaire pouvant servir de support lors de toute reconstruction.
