Book excerpt: You can’t always get what you want. Shy and sweet Lia Gardella has only wished to make her father proud. Dropping plates, spilling drinks, and missing orders, she’s never fit in at the family business. And after nearly incinerating the whole building, she ran from the stressful environment. Want not. As head chef of one of the city’s best eateries, Finn Newland seems to have it all. He enjoyed a youthful career in the MMA. Women worship him. After years of hard work, he finally has an opportunity to take over the restaurant he’s always considered his own. Be careful what you wish for. When Lia’s father summons her to supervise Gardella’s, instead of handing the reins to Finn, no one is happy. They don’t know how to collaborate on running the restaurant. Nor are they confident they can continue to deny their attraction to one another. But before they can attempt a partnership of any kind, they’ll need to find the culprit behind a trend of spiteful sabotage aimed at Gardella’s.

They invite hostility from envious people who would do anything to disrupt your joy and sense of fulfilment. The anointing does not attract harmless and beautiful butterflies but stinging and noisy bees. It draws your way the attention of enemies who have the capacity to hurt you like bees. It does not attract nice people to decorate you with praise and make you feel good. This book is a timely tool in the hands of those who are obedient to God’s will and are facing envy and opposition from the people around them. Don’t be surprised if doing the will of God produces envy in others. Everybody will not applaud you for doing the right thing and for producing great results. In this season of the “Love Revolution” you are likely to think that everyone loves you and take things for granted. Walking in love but at the same time protecting yourself from the envy of those who seek to destroy you is a balance you must attain.

Book Synopsis Cinderella and Her Sisters - The Envied and the Envying by : Ann Ulanov
Download or read book Cinderella and Her Sisters - The Envied and the Envying written by Ann Ulanov and published by Daimon. This book was released on with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seated in her nest of ashes, Cinderella embodies human misery. The essence of inner and outer nobility, she is the envy of her cruel stepmother and her ugly sisters. Using this familiar story, Ann and Barry Ulanov explore the psychological and theological aspects of envy and goodness. In their interpretation of the tale, they move back and forth between internal and external issues – from how feminine and masculine parts of persons fit or do not fit together to how individuals conduct their lives with those of the same and opposite sexes, how they conflict, compete, or join harmoniously. “The Cinderella tale, so simple and so profound, offers a direct road into and through the thickets of envying and being envied. Envy between sisters, between mothers and daughters, between the sexes, between nations . . . between different parts of our own psyche, even of God – these are the multiple places of wounding we touch in this book. The central role of envy in determining the very nature of our society – its politics, for example – is, we think, crucial.” After considering this rarely discussed human emotion, the authors focus on the nature of goodness as it surfaces in the envy experience. They reflect on its abundance, ability to unite disparate parts, its abiding presence, and its joy, then conclude with a glossary of terms and a brief review of the psychological literature on envy.
Book Synopsis In the House of My Pilgrimage by : Donald Sheehan
Download or read book In the House of My Pilgrimage written by Donald Sheehan and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-09-19 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Don Sheehan's early life, plagued by his father's alcoholic violence, was at the same time blessed by the good stories this intelligent man read aloud to his children. In his teens, unhappy in school, Don joined a street gang and then the Army Reserves, where he found he had renounced violence. On his eighteenth birthday, happening upon his post library, he walked straight to a book of Japanese poems. It went, in turn, straight to his heart, for eight hours. He'd come home at last. The house of Don's pilgrimage encompasses a wide territory: spiritual, lyric, scholarly, usually all at once. At our best, what we can take from engaging these essays is a way of falling into the heart to embrace, suffer, and, in Christ, transfigure the world's "ruining oppositions." In doing so, we fulfill what St. Maximus the Confessor saw as our human calling: to unify the polarities embedded in God's creation and thus make, not only ourselves, but all Creation whole.
Book Synopsis Finding True Love in a Prickly Pear World by : ,IBG
Download or read book Finding True Love in a Prickly Pear World written by ,IBG and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-06-21 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What the heck is a prickly pear? Webster defines it as a spiny pear-shaped edible fruit that grows on the Opuntia cacti found in dry arid climates. So, what correlation does a prickly pear have with us? Well, it’s been said that the world is our oyster, and we are the pearls it produces. However, in this book we will discover that the world is our cactus and we are the prickly pear people it produces. As prickly pear people, we’ve learned to love conditionally, where love must be earned and deserved to gain it, and performance is required to maintain and keep it. That is NOT true of God’s love! Therefore, this book provides a powerful resource to learn to love beyond what we’ve been taught. Within its pages, the attributes of true unconditional love are defined in vivid detail to explore what it is and how it acts. There is also the opportunity to reexamine the common beliefs about love and discover the stark contrast between God’s love and the way the world loves that has been promoted through the media, music, opinions/influences of our peers, and those in our Christian circles. This is a contemplative, life-changing journey that is sure to inspire us to think, speak, and act differently than the world around us in the way we love one another. If you’re ready to find true love in this prickly pear world, your search for a love worth finding begins here!

Download or read book Money Talks written by Brenda Berger and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-03-12 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sometimes referred to as "the last taboo," money has remained something of a secret within psychoanalysis. Ironically, while it is an ingredient in almost every encounter between analyst and patient, the analyst's personal feelings about money are rarely discussed openly or in any great depth. So what is it about money that relegates it to the background, both on the couch and off? In Money Talks, Brenda Berger, Stephanie Newman, and their excellent cast of contributors address this and other questions surrounding the tender topic of money, how we talk about it, and how it talks to us. Its multiple meanings are explored in the contexts of patients and analysts and the ways in which they relate, in the training and practice of the analysts themselves, as well as the psychological and cultural consequences of having too much or too little in both flush and tight economic times. Throughout, a clinical sensibility is brought to bear on money's softly spoken place in therapy and life. Money Talks paves the way for an open discourse into the psychology of money and its pervasive influence on the psyche of both patient and analyst.

Book Synopsis Sensory Biographies by : Prof. Robert R. Desjarlais
Download or read book Sensory Biographies written by Prof. Robert R. Desjarlais and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2003-03-03 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robert Desjarlais's graceful ethnography explores the life histories of two Yolmo elders, focusing on how particular sensory orientations and modalities have contributed to the making and the telling of their lives. These two are a woman in her late eighties known as Kisang Omu and a Buddhist priest in his mid-eighties known as Ghang Lama, members of an ethnically Tibetan Buddhist people whose ancestors have lived for three centuries or so along the upper ridges of the Yolmo Valley in north central Nepal. It was clear through their many conversations that both individuals perceived themselves as nearing death, and both were quite willing to share their thoughts about death and dying. The difference between the two was remarkable, however, in that Ghang Lama's life had been dominated by motifs of vision, whereas Kisang Omu's accounts of her life largely involved a "theatre of voices." Desjarlais offers a fresh and readable inquiry into how people's ways of sensing the world contribute to how they live and how they recollect their lives.
