Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is to my knowledge accurate although as we all know some things get embellished with repeated telling. The company names are not real, as well as many of the names of individuals. Those who are in it can probably easily fi gure out who they are in this book. The story starts with Telecommunications back in the analog and live operators plugging in cords for local calls; then moves briefl y through Purchasing and Data Processing with the fi rst corporate main frame; and then to scheduling. It is more about me and my travels than it is about scheduling. The discipline took me to some very exotic places such as Tehran, Iran; Bergen Norway; Madrid Spain; Leyte Island; Jakarta, Dieng, Bali all in Indonesia; and Hawaii. It is also is a chronicle of some of my very good friends and lovers over the years. I hope all of you that read this enjoy it as much as I have in telling it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have men really been engaged in a centuries-old conspiracy to exploit and oppress women? Have the essential differences between men and women really been erased? Have men now become unnecessary? Are they good for anything at all? In Is There Anything Good About Men?, Roy Baumeister offers provocative answers to these and many other questions about the current state of manhood in America. Baumeister argues that relations between men and women are now and have always been more cooperative than antagonistic, that men and women are different in basic ways, and that successful cultures capitalize on these differences to outperform rival cultures. Amongst our ancestors---as with many other species--only the alpha males were able to reproduce, leading them to take more risks and to exhibit more aggressive and protective behaviors than women, whose evolutionary strategies required a different set of behaviors. Whereas women favor and excel at one-to-one intimate relationships, men compete with one another and build larger organizations and social networks from which culture grows. But cultures in turn exploit men by insisting that their role is to achieve and produce, to provide for others, and if necessary to sacrifice themselves. Baumeister shows that while men have greatly benefited from the culture they have created, they have also suffered because of it. Men may dominate the upper echelons of business and politics, but far more men than women die in work-related accidents, are incarcerated, or are killed in battle--facts nearly always left out of current gender debates. Engagingly written, brilliantly argued, and based on evidence from a wide range of disciplines, Is There Anything Good About Men? offers a new and far more balanced view of gender relations.

Wandering the south Brooklyn streets of Dyker Heights, Hal meets neighborhood characters and cronies, babes and bumblers. In fact, there's nothing about any of the nine middle-schoolers on Mrs. B's bus route that screams "fame." But before the end of the year, somebody on this bus is going to be famous. Every morning, their school bus waits at an empty bus stop. Nobody ever gets on. Nobody ever gets off. And Mrs. B refuses to answer questions about it. Strangest of all, it's Bender the bully who decides to investigate the mystery. But it will take all nine students to find out the truth, for each of them has a clue to the mystery that will change their lives forever. Award-winning author J.B. Cheaney's new middle grade novel weaves multiple points of view into one fascinating read. Part detective story, part tale of self-discovery, this funny and touching novel is destined to be a modern classic. "A heartwarming story of discovery, hope, humor, and mystery – you're in for a fun ride!" —Author of Sure Signs of Crazy and Courage for Beginners "Cheaney's narrative style is dynamic and lively. She clearly has high expectations of her audience, creating a middle-grade reader with both substance and complexity that is also truly fun." —VOYA "Cheaney effectively combines multiple layers of mystery with an uplifting message about resilience." —Kirkus

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two grave robbers unearth more than Civil War relics when they desecrate hallowed ground in a Civil War Battlefield. The author tells a story of searching and redemption and shines a new light on one of America=s bloodiest battles. Ghost Cavalry is the story of a family searching for meaning, and finding it generations earlier in the shallow graves of Shiloh, Tennessee. It=s a ghost story, a thriller and a story about family, all in one. Steven Robert Alexander comes from a long line of service members. Among his ancestors are Corp William Edward Alexander of the 155th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry and Louis Joe Kelley, Confederate Soldier who fought at Shiloh. Son of a WWII P 47 Pilot in the Pacific and Korean War Pilot, Steven is a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the US Army. LTC (R) Alexander served throughout the globe, most recently in Operation Iraqi Freedom, his military awards include the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Badge, and many others. Steven makes his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado with his wife Laurie, where he continues his writing. Steven is also a playwrite and Board Game Designer. Visit his website at www.stevenralexander.com. As this story takes place in 1974 and 1863, I see, with their backs to us, a man in a Park Ranger Uniform, with his arm around his 10 year old, looking into a ghostly but real vision of a Confederate Cavalry unit on the move riding towards a line of Union Soldiers with the Stars and Stripes behind them. It could be that the father and son are standing next to a National Park Vehicle, somehow incorporated into the artwork, just to separate the 101 year difference

Now meet the most irresistible and independent heroine of them all, a woman called Low Down, who never had anything good happen to her until the day she asked for the one thing that only a man could give her. . . . As scruffy and rootless as the other prospectors searching for gold in the Rockies, Low Down wanted nothing in return for nursing a raggedy bunch through the pox. But when pressed to reveal her heart's wish, she admits, "I want a baby." Not a husband, not a forced marriage to the proud man who drew the scratched marble and became honor bound to marry her. To be sure, Max McCord was easy on the eyes, but he loved another woman and dreamed of a different life. Yet they agreed to a temporary marriage that could end only in disaster. But can this strange twist of fate lead to the silver lining that both have been searching for?

Book excerpt: In November of 1991, with the Nile in flood, a breakaway faction of the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) led by Riek Machar killed approximately 2,000 Dinka civilians in the southern Sudanese state of Jonglei in what would become known as the Upper Nile Dinka Massacre-as part of his power struggle with SPLA leader John Garang, Machar looked to exploit ethnic rivalries between the Nuer and the Dinka peoples. This is the horrifying maelstrom that swept up and displaced Chol-wdwuok and his extended family and would, nine years later, land him in a Kenyan refugee camp south of Lokichogio. Chol-wdwuok was a young boy at the time, young enough not to have been conscripted as a child soldier by the SPLA, which routinely took children as young as 13. Of course, this brutal massacre was but one act in a much longer play, namely the Second Sudanese Civil War which raged between the SPLA and the Sudanese government, which in 1991, was represented by the Revolutionary Command Council for National Salvation (RCC) under General (and President) Omar al-Bashir. The Second Sudanese Civil War was one of the longest civil conflicts on record, lasting 22 years from 1983 to 2005. Angels in Swollen Crises is a compelling nine-year thread (1991-2000) woven through the tattered fabric of bloody events that blanketed the region like a shroud. It is a story of unbelievable hardship and dislocation, following its narrator from childhood to young adulthood.
