Book Synopsis A Model for Personality by : H.J. Eysenck
Download or read book A Model for Personality written by H.J. Eysenck and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: H. J. Eysenck This book is not an introduction to personality research, it is not a textbook, and above all it is not a model of personality. The title, A Modelfor Personality, was chosen on purpose to indicate that we are here concerned with a discussion of how models in this field ought to be constructed, what their functions were, and whether such models or paradigms could with advantage be produced at this stage of development. One particular aspect of personality, extraversion introversion (E), has been chosen to exemplify the desiderata which emerge from such a discussion. It is not suggested that personality and E are synonymous - merely that this particular dimension is perhaps better known than any other, has had more experimental work done on it than any other and has acquired a better theoretical substructure, and more links with genetics and physiology, than any other. Hence it seems most likely to serve as an example of how a satisfactory model of personality might ultimately be constructed, i. e. by analogy with E. Other dimensions of personality, such as neuroticism-stability or psycho tic ism-superego functioning, are mentioned in the discussion, but only when they overlap or interrelate with E. The book uses E as an example to illustrate the way in which a model of personality can be constructed, but it is in no way a summary of all that is known about E.

Download or read book The Neuropsychology of Anxiety written by and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2024-05-07 with total page 649 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Neuropsychology of Anxiety first appeared in 1982 as the first volume in the Oxford Psychology Series, and it quickly established itself as a classic work in the psychology and neuroscience literature. It presented an innovative, and at times controversial, theory of anxiety and the brain systems, especially the septo-hippocampal system, that subserve it. This completely updated and revised third edition provides a further updated theory of septo hippocampal function combined with an improved understanding of anxiety. The book includes a new chapter on prefrontal cortex integrating frontal and hippocampal views of anxiety, as well as an extensively modified chapter on personality providing a new basis for further developments of Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory. In addition, numerous figures have been fully updated and converted to colour to support the text. This book is essential for postgraduate students and researchers in experimental psychology and neuroscience, as well as for all clinical psychologists and psychiatrists.

Book Synopsis Aspects of Learning (RLE Edu O) by : Brian O'Connell
Download or read book Aspects of Learning (RLE Edu O) written by Brian O'Connell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-06-14 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The time has passed when learning was identified purely as a process involving the ability to store and recall knowledge and facts, and the competence to produce them when required. These abilities still seriously concern the potential teacher and this book duly examines them, but the ‘whys’ and the ‘hows’ of learning and teaching are now considered as important as the implanting of facts for regurgitation at exam time. Some children learn more quickly than others, some can remember facts more easily, and a teacher must ask several fundamental questions in order to understand the factors at work in this learning process. Where is knowledge stored? Why do we remember some facts and forget others? When are we learning new facts and when are we remembering and adapting knowledge to see it in a new light? To help answer these and many other questions a number of learning situations, typical in most schools, are examined, the processes at work in the classrooms are examined and then they are both related to different theories of learning. The examination of a series of learning processes should not necessarily involve a choice between them, and a feature of this volume is its lack of partiality towards any particular teaching method, although the teacher and student will draw their own conclusions.
