Uno de los componentes que forman parte de la respuesta de ansiedad es la sobreactivación psicofisiológica. Sus síntomas son bien conocidos: dificultades para respirar, taquicardia, tensión muscular, dolor de cabeza, mareos, sudoración excesiva, insomnio, irritabilidad... Desde la Psicología Clínica se ha venido desarrollando un conjunto de técnicas de desactivación (relajación muscular, entrenamiento autógeno, biofeedback, etc.), pero, si atendemos a las más recientes investigaciones, las intervenciones que alcanzan una mayor eficiencia son los procedimientos respiratorios, al mostrarse más eficaces, sencillos, rápidos y fáciles de aprender. A pesar de ello, no han alcanzado tan amplia difusión en el entorno del tratamiento psicológico, tal vez debido a que no se han desarrollado procedimientos de entrenamiento tan sistematizados como en el caso de las demás técnicas de relajación. La presente Guía pretende cubrir dicha carencia. En ella encontrará los aspectos teóricos y experimentales en que se fundamentan estas técnicas, conceptos que podrá utilizar para desarrollar la psicoeducación en referencia a la ansiedad y la activación. En la segunda parte se expone un programa de entrenamiento práctico, progresivo y sistemático, complementados con dos procedimientos adicionales, uno de entrenamiento abreviado para su uso en situaciones de crisis y otro que combina la práctica respiratoria con la relajación secuencial de distintos grupos musculares. Además, se incluye un cuadernillo que ayudará al paciente/lector a dominar las habilidades necesarias para reducir el impacto de la sobreactivación en su vida cotidiana. In the past decade, such persistent physiological activation has proven to impact individuals’ health, potentially leading to somatic disease. As such, perseverative cognition has recently been proposed as the missing piece in the relationships between stress, psychopathology, and risk for health. Perseverative cognition is indeed a hallmark of conditions such as anxiety and mood disorders that are at increased -though still unexplained- cardiovascular risk. Although the pivotal role of ruminative and worrisome thoughts in determining the onset and maintenance of psychopathological disorders has been acknowledged for a long time, its effects on the body via reciprocal influences between mental processes and the body's physiology have been neglected. Moreover, perseverative cognition is definitely not restricted to psychopathology, it is extremely common and likely even omnipresent, pervading daily life. The objective of the Research Topic is to provide an interdisciplinary examination of cutting-edge neuroscientific research on brain-body signatures of perseverative cognition in both healthy and psychopathological individuals.
