Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up the second of three sons in a small town in Northern Illinois, raised by hard working middle class parents, I always seemed to be doing the wrong things with the wrong friends. Throughout high school this continued. Within one year of high school graduation, nine of the people that I spent my time with were dead, one was in prison. I knew I had to seriously change the direction of my life. I did repent of my sin's and my life and was given the new direction I was desperate for. All I ever really wanted was to grow up and find my perfect wife and live a happy and good life with our children. I did find my perfect wife. This is the story of the most wonderful girl I have ever known; Linda Diane Gribben Aper, my bride. This is a woman who raised two sons, made their baby food, made the beds every day, kept a beautiful house. She drove the boys to school every day. She read, sang, and prayed with them every day. She sang in the choir, assisted in directing the children's choir. She coached teen Bible quizzing for 17 years. She crocheted baby blankets for every niece and nephew as they were born. She tole painted amazing works of art. She also had time to be my best friend. The girl I always dreamed of. These things might seem fairly ordinary, yes maybe for an ordinary person. Linda was no ordinary person. And now, after a lifetime of joy and tears,I wonder, how can I tell you about my loved one?
Book Synopsis Making Words Sing by : Jonathan Dunsby
Download or read book Making Words Sing written by Jonathan Dunsby and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2004-06-10 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What makes a classical song a song? In a wide-ranging 2004 discussion, covering such contrasting composers as Brahms and Berberian, Schubert and Kurtág, Jonathan Dunsby considers the nature of vocality in songs of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The essence and scope of poetic and literary meaning in the Lied tradition is subjected to close scrutiny against the backdrop of 'new musicological' thinking and music-theoretical orthodoxies. The reader is thus offered the best insights available within an evidence-based approach to musical discourse. Schoenberg figures conspicuously as both songsmith and theorist, and some easily comprehensible Schenkerian approaches are used to convey ideas of musical time and expressive focus. In this work of scholarship and theoretical depth, Professor Dunsby's highly original approach and engaging style will ensure its appeal to all practising musicians and students of Romantic and modern music.
Book Synopsis Still the Greatest by : Andrew Grant Jackson
Download or read book Still the Greatest written by Andrew Grant Jackson and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2012-07-20 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As recommended by USA Today and excerpted on Rolling Stone.com! More than forty years after breaking up, The Beatles remain the biggest-selling and most influential group in the history of popular music. Fans endlessly replay their songs, craving more, while thousands of cover versions of their songs have been recorded and performed. Band biographies, pop music histories, song books, and academic titles on the Fab Four clutter shelves. But never has there been a definitive guide to the finest songs of The Beatles after they called it quits. Still the Greatest is a love song to the songwriting and recording achievements of Paul, John, George, and Ringo after each struck out on his own. In this creative history, Jackson selects the best songs in each solo career and organizes them into fantasy albums they might have formed had the legendary group stayed together. This romp through the post–Beatles history of each artist delves into the circumstances behind the composition, recording, and reception of each work, offering a refreshing take on how spectacular much of The Beatles’ second act truly is. Jackson assesses the more than seventy albums and nine hundred songs the four collectively released, selecting the crème de la crème of their output. Still the Greatest brims with facts (release dates, writing and performing credits, and information about production techniques) and insightful analyses of the music and lyrics. In telling the stories behind the songs, Jackson recounts the remarkable influence the Post Fab Four continued to have long after the big split. Both a handy reference and an engrossing cover-to-cover read, Still the Greatest is an invaluable companion for those who thought it all ended with the 1970 album Let It Be.

Download or read book Conversations with McCartney written by Paul Du Noyer and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2016-10-18 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “One of the most fascinating portraits to date of one of the most important cultural icons of our age.” —Choice In June 1989, Paul Du Noyer was contacted by Paul McCartney’s office in London. They asked him to interview the star; McCartney and Du Noyer had met once before and enjoyed a good rapport. In the years that followed, Du Noyer continued to meet, interview, and work for Paul McCartney on a regular basis, producing magazine articles, tour programs, album liner notes, press materials, and editorial content for McCartney’s website. Du Noyer has spent more hours in formal, recorded conversation with McCartney than any other writer. Conversations with McCartney is the culmination of Du Noyer’s long association with McCartney and his music. Drawing from their interview sessions across thirty-five years and coupling McCartney’s own candid thoughts with Du Noyer’s observations and analysis, Conversations with McCartney is beautifully written—a sensitive, shrewd portrait of one of the most accomplished musical artists of our time. “Readers get to hear the seemingly ageless former Beatle discuss a variety of topics: songwriting, religion and spirituality, his enduring relationship with Linda Eastman, his reflections on the breakup of the Beatles and life after the group.” —Publishers Weekly “A welcome contribution to a growing body of serious but not solemn work about The Fabs.” —Kirkus Reviews

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spirit of the Beatles lives on in this satire on both the Beatles and their historians! This is a fun book for Beatles fans who are willing to laugh at the music and musicians they love. It's a humorous, irreverent romp, very tongue-in-cheek and not the least bit serious. While it poses as another stodgy analysis of all Beatles compositions, it really has more in common with the Monty Python flavored "Rutles" film. Old-time drawings make it more fun & visually stimulating. A pleasant time is guaranteed for all! Book Synopsis Along The Road To Heaven by : Jeffrey Langer
Download or read book Along The Road To Heaven written by Jeffrey Langer and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006-08 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shortly after finishing my last book Aliens and Cowboys I found myself with time on my hands so I began writing songs. The driving motivation for this book began when I moved to Auburndale Florida. Polk County is a rural community (home to orange groves and sparkling fresh water lakes) this is the first time I spent any amount of time with country folks. I started listening predominately to country music and evangelists on the radio. A short time later I realized these outside influences were changing the nature of my words and themes. For nine months I lived in Polk County the rest of the time I lived with my father and brother after separating with my long time girl friend. I finished this book at King's Point in Delray Beach Florida. The selections picked for this book reflect real life after all they come from real people and true-life events. The songs/poetry in this book were inspired by people I know, people I've spoke with (in person and in chat rooms on the web). The songs are about the Cast Of Characters that have been in and out of my life for the past year. I am not sure how some of the people I wrote about will react about the stories I tell, after all they are my interpretation of their words, their tears, their hopes and yes their fears, but also their optimism, faith in god and love of life. It celebrates the human spirit that begins our everyday and never goes away. Be well, keep your head up, and see you along the road to heaven. Jeffrey Langer
Book Synopsis Music, Sound, and Silence in Buffy the Vampire Slayer by : Janet K. Halfyard
Download or read book Music, Sound, and Silence in Buffy the Vampire Slayer written by Janet K. Halfyard and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The intense and continuing popularity of the long-running television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003) has long been matched by the range and depth of the academic critical response. This volume, the first devoted to the show's imaginative and widely varied use of music, sound, and silence, helps to develop an increasingly important and inadequately covered area of research - the many roles of music in contemporary television. In addressing this significant gap, this book provides an exemplary overview of the functions of music and sound in the interpretation of a television show. This is done through analyses that focus on scoring and source music, the title theme, the music production process, the critically acclaimed musical episode (voted number 13 in Channel Four's One Hundred Greatest Musicals), the symbolic and dramatic use of silence, and the popular reception of the show by its international fan base. In keeping with contemporary trends in the study of popular musics, a variety of critical approaches are taken from musicology, cultural studies, and media and communication studies, specifically employing critique, musical analysis, industry studies, and hermeneutics.
