This book was released on 2015 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current law regulating firearms is contained primarily within the Firearms Act 1968. Further provisions however are to be found in an additional 33 Acts of Parliament. This number does not include the numerous pieces of secondary legislation that regulate the acquisition and possession of firearms. The current legislative landscape has been the subject of a great deal of criticism in particular because: (1) there is a lack of coherence between the 34 different sets of legislative provisions; (2) loopholes are being exploited by those with criminal intent; (3) the law is difficult to find given that it is scattered across numerous Statutes (4) keyterms within the legislation have been left undefined; and (5) overall the law is so complex that even those who deal with it every day struggle to understand aspects of it. The primary Act, the Firearms Act 1968 was a consolidating measure. The 1968 Act was hurried through Parliament, it has been suggested that the Act was enacted without sufficient consultation and preparation first being undertaken. This perhaps explains some of the Act's deficiencies. Additionally it incorporates provisions that have their origin in the Pistols Act 1903. It is questionable whether some of the language used is still fit for purpose over 100 years after it was first enacted. This report is divided thematically. Each of chapters 2 to 6 sets out key problems with a different aspect of the law, examines consultees' responses to the consultation questions and provisional proposals and makes final recommendations. Chapter 7 examines the response of consultees to the Law Commission provisional proposal that the law relating to firearms be codified. Chapter 8 lists the Law Commission recommendations and chapter 9 contains a glossary.

Book excerpt: This legislative analysis outlines the history of gun control efforts, dating from enactment of the War Revenue Act of 1919 to the bills that came before the 94th Congress. Proponents of gun control legislation have argued that expanded Federal control of handguns is a necessary answer to gun-related crime. Opponents of the primary gun control bills presented to the 94th Congress generally identified four broad areas of concern: the Second Amendment guarantee of the right of the people to keep and bear arms, the question of whether gun control is essential as a means of controlling crime, the efficiency of Federal gun control laws, and the "Saturday Night Special" question (i.e., the ambiguity with which proposed banned handguns are often defined). The two principal bills considered by the 94th Congress included H.R. 11193 which would restructure the licensing requirements of the Gun Control Act of 1968 to increase annual license fees, and the Bayh bill, which would introduce additional regulation to the buying and selling of handguns. 95 notes.

It begins with an introductory chapter outlining its scope and purpose. Subsequent chapters delve into topics such as gun control policies encompassing crime prevention, public safety, mass shooting reduction, mental health considerations, domestic violence prevention, accidental shooting prevention, national security, illegal firearm trafficking, and maintenance of public order. The book also addresses the definition of guns, civilian firearm use, responsible gun ownership, and the United States' intricate gun ownership landscape, covering laws, regulations, statistics, and the impact of policies on violent crime and mass shootings. Further chapters extend this analysis to other nations, exploring gun control scenarios in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Brazil, South Africa, and Russia. Additionally, the book discusses global perspectives on gun ownership variations, the purchase process, and introduces a rating system for effective gun control policies. The final chapter explores the sociological aspects of sports shooting, covering historical development, cultural influences, community dynamics, inclusivity, economic factors, political aspects, controversies, and the intersection of health and well-being. The inclusion of an index and reference section enhances the book's accessibility and credibility, ultimately presenting a comprehensive examination of diverse aspects within the realm of gun-related subjects.

Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2015 in the subject Health - Public Health, grade: 80, University of South Florida (Post Graduate School), course: Health Care and Public Administration, language: English, abstract: The American firearm industry seems to be healthier than ever. The demand and production rates have gone seemingly high and there exist constant demand all over the country for firearm. As per the (Washington times, 2015), during 2013 around 10.8 million of guns were manufactured; which is equivalent to the produced units during 2010 to 2012. According to the National Vital Statistics, approximately around 31,000 fatalities are recorded each year. The percentage of gun violence or firearm abuse spreads over; suicide (62per cent), homicide (35per cent) and accidental shootings accounts over 3per cent. (Cornell, 2013). Once an individual possess an ownership of a firearm, it makes the job simple and easy; aim and fire. Everyone in the society are vulnerable as the threshold between homicide and anger is brought down (Lendman, 2012).

It should also be helpful to collectors of NFA firearms and other persons having questions about the application of the NFA. This publication is not a law book. Rather, it is intended as a ?user friendly? reference book enabling the user to quickly find answers to questions concerning the NFA. Nevertheless, it should also be useful to attorneys seeking basic information about the NFA and how the law has been interpreted by ATF. The book's Table of Contents will be helpful to the user in locating needed information. Although the principal focus of the handbook is the NFA, the book necessarily covers provisions of the Gun Control Act of 1968 and the Arms Export Control Act impacting NFA firearms businesses and collectors.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gun control is one of the most enduringly controversial issues in modern American politics. For the first time this book compiles a comprehensive array of documents that explain and illuminate the historical and contemporary context of the modern gun debate. Bringing together over 50 documents from the colonial era to the present, including early colonial laws, founding documents, letters, political debates, federal and state laws, federal and state court cases, and various political documents, this book is an indispensable reference work for those seeking to understand the origins and modern consequences of American gun policy, including the Second Amendment's right to keep and bear arms. Accompanying commentary and analysis is included to help the reader fully understand the meaning of these documents. Numerous bibliographic sources provide additional resources for interested readers. Ideal for undergraduate and high school students, this collection of primary documents surrounding one of America's oldest controversial issues is a must-have for library shelves. Contrary to popular impression, gun laws are as old as the country, and reflect the intersection of citizens' personal gun habits and the country's early need to defend itself by citizen militias who were required to arm themselves. The nation's gun policies evolved as its needs and resources changed. Old-style militias gave way to a modern professional American military, and the settling of the American frontier ushered in modern gun laws. In the past century, political assassinations and gun-related mass violence spurred both new gun control efforts and a burgeoning modern gun rights movement. Students will be able to read and analyze primary documents surrounding these events, including the Federalist Papers, early hunting laws, Supreme Court rulings, federal and state regulations, and recent political platform statements. Ideal for undergraduate and high school students, this collection of primary documents surrounding one of America's oldest controversial issues is a must-have for library shelves.
