Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 3 of the Inspired Art Coloring Books Series Allot of my art is inspired by my experience with the environment around me. The world is an amazing place. I hope that you find my images as beautiful as I do, while creating them. When my art is colored, it can take on the look of stained glass. My art style was inspired by the old method of creating silk screens over 25 years ago. People have seen many different cultural and artistic influences from around the world in my art. You will find many of the pieces emphasize negative space. In each image the negative space is just as important as the positive space. When coloring, allow yourself to explore both inside and outside the lines with a variety of hues. Let the colors flow naturally, in a way that feels right to you. There is no wrong or right way to color. The art is printed on one side of the paper. Recommend using cardstock or multiple sheets of paper to stop bleed-through to the next page. You can test on the last few pages in the book.

Book excerpt: "For those unaware—as I was until I read this book—that Mark Twain was one of America's early animal advocates, Shelley Fisher Fishkin's collection of his writings on animals will come as a revelation. Many of these pieces are as fresh and lively as when they were first written, and it's wonderful to have them gathered in one place." —Peter Singer, author of Animal Liberation and The Life You Can Save “A truly exhilarating work. Mark Twain's animal-friendly views would not be out of place today, and indeed, in certain respects, Twain is still ahead of us: claiming, correctly, that there are certain degraded practices that only humans inflict on one another and upon other animals. Fishkin has done a splendid job: I cannot remember reading something so consistently excellent."—Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson, author of When Elephants Weep and The Face on Your Plate "Shelley Fisher Fishkin has given us the lifelong arc of the great man's antic, hilarious, and subtly profound explorations of the animal world, and she's guided us through it with her own trademark wit and acumen. Dogged if she hasn't." —Ron Powers, author of Dangerous Water: A Biography of the Boy Who Became Mark Twain and Mark Twain: A Life

Do you want him or her to settle down to a good activity about art and animals? Look no more; this is the book for you and your child. Kids will learn how to go out and "find" animals in their immediate environment such as the home (garages, closets, kitchen, bathrooms, toolbox, jewelry case), the garden, the lawn, school, doctor's offices, or anywhere safe for that matter with an adult in tow, of course, to watch over them. They will answer simple, everyday-type questions about their animals (no need for answer keys), and when they are finished, they will take on the challenge. This means getting out their cameras and snapping analog pictures of their found animals in a bar of soap on a rope, a mud puddle, or an umbrella, and finally creating beautiful works of digital, abstract art suitable for your refrigerator, desk at the office, or showing off to friends and family.

Book excerpt: Animal rights activists today regularly use visual imagery in their efforts to shape the public’s understanding of what it means to be “kind,” “cruel,” and “inhumane” toward animals. Art for Animals explores the early history of this form of advocacy through the images and the people who harnessed their power. Following in the footsteps of earlier-formed organizations like the RSPCA and ASPCA, animal advocacy groups such as the Victoria Street Society for the Protection of Animals from Vivisection made significant use of visual art in literature and campaign materials. But, enabled by new and improved technologies and techniques, they took the imagery much further than their predecessors did, turning toward vivid, pointed, and at times graphic depictions of human-animal interactions. Keri Cronin explains why the activist community embraced this approach, details how the use of such tools played a critical role in educational and reform movements in the United States, Canada, and England, and traces their impact in public and private spaces. Far from being peripheral illustrations of points articulated in written texts or argued in impassioned speeches, these photographs, prints, paintings, exhibitions, “magic lantern” slides, and films were key components of animal advocacy at the time, both educating the general public and creating a sense of shared identity among the reformers. Uniquely focused on imagery from the early days of the animal rights movement and filled with striking visuals, Art for Animals sheds new light on the history and development of modern animal advocacy.
