Book Synopsis Living the Bhagavad Gita by : Braja Sorensen
Download or read book Living the Bhagavad Gita written by Braja Sorensen and published by Hachette India. This book was released on 2019-02-05 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: `Armed with yoga, stand and fight? In this startlingly original book, Braja Sorensen combines the teachings of Sri Krishna and the sage Patanjali to emphasize the real purpose of yoga: it is a way of life, and its goal is the union with the Divine. It is yoga, through progressive stages of inner growth, that Krishna is actually teaching Arjuna on the battlefield as he addresses the prince?s fears, doubts and dilemmas. And the questions that Arjuna asks Krishna are as relevant and pressing for the modern reader as they were centuries ago: Why am I suffering? How do I find peace within? How do I comprehend the difference between right and wrong? Who am I, and how do I understand myself? What is the purpose of life? Braja Sorensen presents a lucid analysis of the multiple meanings of the word `yoga? that Krishna teaches in the Bhagavad Gita, for its every verse is about yoga. The yogic journey is a process of training and refining the mind, senses and emotions, until the very consciousness is altered and ready to meet the Divine. Patanjali, meanwhile, explains the link between the body, mind and soul, and how the practice of yoga affects each. Living the Bhagavad Gita brings to you the life-changing qualities that Krishna taught, and shows you how the Bhagavad Gita is the finest guide to understanding life, love and relationships, the body, mind and senses, and the nature of the soul.

Book Synopsis The Ancient Wisdom by : Annie Besant
Download or read book The Ancient Wisdom written by Annie Besant and published by BookRix. This book was released on 2019-01-09 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The source from which a universe proceeds is a manifested Divine Being, to whom in the modern form of the Ancient Wisdom the name LOGOS, or Word has been given. The name is drawn from Greek Philosophy, but perfectly expresses the ancient idea, the Word which emerges from the Silence, the Voice, the Sound, by which the worlds come into being. We must now trace the evolution of spirit-matter, in order that we may understand something of the nature of the materials with which we have to deal on the physical plane, or physical world. For it is in the potentialities wrapped up, involved, in the spirit-matter of the physical world that lies the possibility of evolution. The whole process is an unfolding, self-moved from within and aided by intelligent beings without, who can retard or quicken evolution, but cannot transcend the capacities inherent in the materials. Some idea of these earliest stages of the world’s “becoming” is therefore necessary, although any attempt to go into minute details would carry us far beyond the limits of such an elementary treatise as the present. A very cursory sketch must suffice. Coming forth from the depths of the One Existence, from the ONE beyond all thought and all speech, a LOGOS, by imposing on Himself a limit, circumscribing voluntarily the range of His own Being, becomes the manifested God, and tracing the limiting sphere of His activity thus outlines the area of His universe. Within that sphere the universe is born, is evolved, and dies ; it lives, it moves, it has its being in Him ; its matter is His emanation ; its forces and energies are currents of His Life ; He is immanent in every atom, all-pervading, all-sustaining, all-evolving ; He is its source and its end, its cause and its object, its centre and circumference ; it is built on Him as its sure foundation, it breathes in Him as its encircling space ; He is in everything and everything in Him. Thus have the sages of the Ancient Wisdom taught us of the beginning of the manifested worlds.

Book Synopsis Ignorance is Bliss: The Chinese Art of Not Knowing by : Mieke Matthyssen
Download or read book Ignorance is Bliss: The Chinese Art of Not Knowing written by Mieke Matthyssen and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-15 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the popular, yet puzzling, Chinese saying Nande hutu 难得糊涂 to uncover how the ancient Chinese wisdom of not knowing is constructed, interpreted, practiced and valued in contemporary society. Originating in the calligraphy of Qing-dynasty scholar Zheng Banqiao, Nande hutu translates literally as: “hard to attain muddle-headedness”. Mieke Matthyssen traces the historical development of this saying and related philosophies to reveal a culturally conditioned, multi-layered inclination to different forms of not knowing. In contemporary society, she argues, this inclination forms part of a living art: in some respects, a passive, evasive strategy for self-preservation; in other respects, a strategy for coping with intrapersonal, interpersonal and social complexities. Drawing on an extensive range of primary sources and original research, the analysis skillfully combines philosophical and socio-historical analysis with theory from Chinese philosophy, philosophical psychology and the relatively new field of indigenous psychology, to provide an in-depth understanding of how Nande hutu has shaped, and continues to shape, the Chinese psyche and behaviour. This book will appeal to all readers looking for fresh insights into Chinese culture, and in particular to students and scholars of Chinese and Asian studies, cultural and social anthropology, and philosophical and indigenous psychology.
