This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advancing technology in detector arrays, flat panel displays, and digital image processing provides new opportunities to expand imaging applications and enhance system performance. Technical managers and design engineers are faced with evaluating the cost, weight, and performance of an ever-expanding selection of technology options. This tutorial text provides the theory, procedures, and information necessary to evaluate and compare the performance of available imaging technologies. Part I updates the earlier work presented in Analysis of Sampled Imaging Systems (2000). Part II discusses performance evaluation of electro-optical imagers. Part III provides computer programs (on a supplemental CD-ROM) and up-to-date information on detector arrays, optics, and display options. The book covers a variety of display formats and interfaces, and provides detailed information on available focal plane arrays (FPAs). Particular emphasis is placed on theory and practice for the wide variety of available infrared FPAs. Technologies represented include InSb, HgCdTe, QWIP, and uncooled thermal arrays. Information is provided on the quantum efficiency, blur, crosstalk, and noise characteristics of each technology. The detector and array dimensions of available FPAs are provided. The information on optics, display, and FPA subassemblies allows the model user to make quick and realistic performance assessments of electro-optical imager designs.

This book was released on 2013-03-13 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As this book took form, its contents furnished the material for a graduate course at the University of Rhode Island. Toward the end of that course, the class reviewed the literature on display characteristics and design. The universal criticism voiced in those reviews was that there was lots of hardware information but no criteria upon which one could base a sound design. Though one could learn all about the size and brightness of various displays, one could not form any judgment about how ef fectively the display transferred information to an observer. As I reviewed our nearly completed text, an announcement crossed my desk stating that one of the professional societies in a seminar was to consider if one should not attempt to formulate a theory concerning information transfer from displays to an observer. That was the first title chosen for our book, before our publisher told us that "that was a paragraph, not a title. " The group of contributors to this book have labored long in the conviction that there was a real need to develop and present a consolidated theory based upon the work of a number of pioneers, including Barnes and Czerny, de Vries, Rose, Coltman and Anderson, Schade, Johnson, van Meeteren, and others, who established the various parts of a substantial theoretical and experimental back ground that seemed ripe for consolidation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most data from satellites are in image form, thus most books in the remote sensing field deal exclusively with image processing. However, signal processing can contribute significantly in extracting information from the remotely sensed waveforms or time series data. Pioneering the combination of the two processes, Signal and Image Processing for Remote Sensing provides a balance between the role of signal processing and image processing in remote sensing. Featuring contributions from worldwide experts, this book emphasizes mathematical approaches. Divided into two parts, Part I examines signal processing for remote sensing and Part II explores image processing. Not limited to the problems with data from satellite sensors, the book considers other sensors which acquire data remotely, including signals and images from infrasound, seismic, microwave, and satellite sensors. It covers a broader scope of issues in remote sensing information processing than other books in this area. With rapid technological advances, the mathematical techniques provided will far outlast the sensor, software and hardware technologies. Focusing on methodologies of signal processing and image processing in remote sensing, this book discusses unique techniques for dealing with remote sensing problems.

This handbook of machine vision is written by experts from leading companies in this field. It goes through all aspects of image acquisition and image processing. From the viewpoint of the industrial application the authors also elucidate in topics like illumination or camera calibration. Attention is paid to all hardware aspects, starting from lenses and camera systems to camera-computer interfaces. Besides the detailed hardware descriptions the necessary software is discussed with equal profoundness. This includes sections on digital image basics as well as image analysis and image processing. Finally the user is introduced to general aspects of industrial applications of machine vision, such as case studies and strategies for the conception of complete machine vision systems. With this handbook the reader will be enabled not only to understand up to date systems for machine vision but will also be qualified for the planning and evaluation of such technology.
