Book Synopsis Biographical Ruptures and Their Repair by : Amrei C. Joerchel
Download or read book Biographical Ruptures and Their Repair written by Amrei C. Joerchel and published by IAP. This book was released on 2014-11-01 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biographical ruptures and their repairs: Cultural transitions in development represents the efforts of bridging theoretical, methodological, and practice oriented issues revolving around the notion of biographical ruptures and their repairs. The aim is to bring novel understandings from cultural psychological perspectives to the debate of what it means to be a developing human being in an ever changing world. Contrary to mainstream psychology ruptures and repairs are here not necessarily understood as a personal experience, which must be overcome through various coping strategies. Rather, ruptures are understood as experiences, which necessarily emerge out of the complex interrelatedness of intra-psychological, inter-personal, and societal processes. Moving along these different levels of analysis, each of the 13 chapters of this book contributes to the general cultural psychological understanding of ruptures from their own particular standpoint. The notion of ruptures and their repairs are discussed from such differing standpoints such as classical developmental psychological theories and challenges to such developmental approaches. They are discussed in relation to racial interpellations using the documentary method and social representations theory. On the object level ruptures are pointed out within popular music videos and from a Ganzheitspsychological approach and others. The current book thus does not only represent a conglomerate of various theoretical, methodological, or practice oriented approaches to ruptures and their repairs, each adding with their own expertise to a better understand of the phenomenon in its whole. It also demonstrated a lively debate between leading specialists and practitioners from different disciplines and countries. Theoretical and methodological issues, as well as ethical and moral ones, are each discussed from their own cultural psychological viewpoint. This book will interest practitioners, scientists and students or anyone who is interested in biographical rupture and their repairs from a cultural psychological, developmental, social psychological or psychotherapeutic viewpoint.

Book Synopsis Psychoanalysis and Cognitive Science by : Wilma Bucci
Download or read book Psychoanalysis and Cognitive Science written by Wilma Bucci and published by Guilford Press. This book was released on 1997-05-16 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although psychoanalytic concepts underlie most forms of psychotherapy practiced today, the basic Freudian theory of mind the metapsychology does not mesh with current scientific views in psychology and related fields. As a result, despite its many strengths, psychoanalysis has been relegated to the periphery by clinicians and researchers alike. Filling a significant void, this book from cognitive scientist and psychoanalytic researcher Wilma Bucci proposes a new model of psychological organization that integrates psychoanalytic theory with the investigation of mental processes. Solidly rooted in current cognitive science, multiple code theory recognizes the focus on meanings and motives that is intrinsic to psychoanalytic clinical work. The theory points to parallel functions underlying free association and dreams, as well as conceptual development in children and creative work in sciences and the arts, and provides a strong foundation for empirical research on the psychoanalytic treatment process.

Book excerpt: Focusing on the modeling, control, simulation, and diagnosis of complex industrial systems, this book contains a collection of papers that have been developed under the aegis of ANIPLA (the national automation association of Italy), which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2006. Emphasis is placed on the real-time monitoring and control of process plants and energy systems and on the application of innovative approaches ranging from the predictive control of a gasoline engine, through fuzzy inference applied to quality control in the paper industry and up to innovative load shedding and demand management in national electrical grids. Part of the ISA/O3neida series, this book will be of interest to practitioners within the automation field, particularly those focused on process control and energy systems. It will also be of interest to academics and students seeking an overview of current approaches in this field or looking for detailed treatment of any of the issues covered by the individual chapters. More than forty authors from countries around the world have contributed to the production of this unique book and O3neida thanks them, one and all, for their strong collaboration in producing this excellent compendium and for their continuing contribution to the advancement of process control and optimization.
