Book excerpt: Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is a commercially attractive phase of the commodity that facilitates the efficient handling and transportation of natural gas around the world. The LNG industry, using technologies proven over decades of development, continues to expand its markets, diversify its supply chains and increase its share of the global natural gas trade. The Handbook of Liquefied Natural Gas is a timely book as the industry is currently developing new large sources of supply and the technologies have evolved in recent years to enable offshore infrastructure to develop and handle resources in more remote and harsher environments. It is the only book of its kind, covering the many aspects of the LNG supply chain from liquefaction to regasification by addressing the LNG industries’ fundamentals and markets, as well as detailed engineering and design principles. A unique, well-documented, and forward-thinking work, this reference book provides an ideal platform for scientists, engineers, and other professionals involved in the LNG industry to gain a better understanding of the key basic and advanced topics relevant to LNG projects in operation and/or in planning and development. Highlights the developments in the natural gas liquefaction industries and the challenges in meeting environmental regulations Provides guidelines in utilizing the full potential of LNG assets Offers advices on LNG plant design and operation based on proven practices and design experience Emphasizes technology selection and innovation with focus on a “fit-for-purpose design Updates code and regulation, safety, and security requirements for LNG applications

Book Synopsis China’s Gas Development Strategies by : Shell International B.V.
Download or read book China’s Gas Development Strategies written by Shell International B.V. and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is open access under a CC BY 4.0 license. This book examines how China can increase the share of natural gas in its energy system. China’s energy strategy has global ramifications and impact, and central to this strategy is the country’s transition from coal to gas. The book presents the culmination of a two-year collaboration between the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC) and Shell. With the Chinese government’s strategic aim to increase the share of gas in the energy mix from 5.8% in 2014 to 10% and 15% in 2020 and 2030 respectively, the book outlines how China can achieve its gas targets. Providing both quantifiable metrics and policy measures for the transition, it is a much needed addition to the literature on Chinese energy policy. The research and the resulting recommendations of this study have fed directly into the Chinese government’s 13th Five-Year Plan, and provide unique insights into the Chinese government and policy-making. Due to its global impact, the book is a valuable resource for policy makers in both China and the rest of the world.

Book Synopsis Low-carbon Energy Security from a European Perspective by : Patrizia Lombardi
Download or read book Low-carbon Energy Security from a European Perspective written by Patrizia Lombardi and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2016-06-08 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Low-Carbon Energy Security from a European Perspective draws on the European Commission‘s funded project MILESECURE-2050. It considers low-carbon energy security and energy geopolitics in Europe, with a focus on four thematic clusters: challenging the energy security paradigm; climate change and energy security objectives (the components of a secure and low-carbon energy system); energy security in a geopolitical perspective, as it relates to economics, resource competition, and availability; and the influence of large scale renewable energy projects on energy security and shifting geopolitical alliances. An overarching narrative is that optimizing the energy system simultaneously across different objectives may be impossible, i.e., lowest cost, least environmental impact, minimal downtime, regional supply. This book explores these charged topics through insights from a series of novel, new energy project case studies, and demonstrates the need for difficult political conversations within Europe and beyond by posing fundamental yet new questions about the energy security paradigm. Offers a unique perspective on low-carbon energy security by considering the assumptions behind current energy security needs Suggests the benefit of envisioning energy security through out-of-the-box scenario development with respect to the energy system Includes energy in an international scenario with case studies from Africa, Russia, Ukraine, Morroco, China, South America, and Europe Draws on the European Commission‘s funded project MILESECURE-2050

Book excerpt: "A major aim of this study is to test the proposition that LNG markets will become increasingly 'global'. In the process, the study illuminates the very substantial changes unfolding in the Atlantic and Pacific Basin LNG markets. The evolution of short-term and spot transactions, and the development of arbitrage opportunities within the Atlantic Basin and between the Atlantic and the Pacific, have been identified as important trends, as demand for LNG increases, particularly in the United States."--BOOK JACKET.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Essay from the year 2011 in the subject Energy Sciences, grade: A, Coventry University, course: MSc Oil & Gas Management, language: English, abstract: The LNG industry is experiencing strong growth in its current market- posting an impressive 297.63 bcm in LNG imports during 2010(BP 2011: 29). However, it is still a budding industry because Russia and Iran- owners of the largest gas reserves in the world are still fledgling LNG exporters (Economides and Wood 2009). According to Kumar et al. (2011) LNG is also a clean substitute over petrol and diesel. Moreover the Asian tigers like Japan, China and India are still growing their economies (ExxonMobil 2010: 8). Thus, the Asian tigers’ LNG demand, the eco-nature of LNG, coupled with Russia and Iran’s LNG exports - can create a more robust LNG market in the future. This paper examines the existing and future market of LNG – in the light of major LNG players in each region.

Book Synopsis Recent Dynamics in the Global Liquefied Natural Gas Industry by : Sophia Ruester
Download or read book Recent Dynamics in the Global Liquefied Natural Gas Industry written by Sophia Ruester and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper provides a summary on recent developments in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry and discusses prospects for capacity development in the mid-term future. During the early years of the industry, most of the world's LNG export infrastructure remained under state control and the industry was characterized by inflexible bilateral long-term supply agreements with take-or-pay and destination clauses. In today's LNG market, new flexibility in trading patterns comes from changes in the structure of long-term contracts. In addition, short-term agreements and spot transactions gain in importance. The first export projects without having sold total volume based on long-term contracts are moving forward. LNG suppliers and buyers increasingly integrate vertically along the whole value chain. Some companies invest in an entire portfolio of LNG export, shipping, and import positions, enabling them to conduct flexible trades and to benefit from regional price differences. In contrast, some new entrants invested in non-integrated LNG import terminals operating them as tolling facilities or speculating for short-term deliveries. However, the non-integrated players still have to prove to be successful in an industry, which a long time has been a sellers' market without major uncommitted export capacities, and in which also in the longer-term future, once, the economic crisis is overcome, importers are expected to continue to compete for global supplies.
