This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Inquiry Into, the Truth of Dogmatic Christianity Comprising a Discussion With a Bishop of the Roman Catholic Church Further than this I have not interfered with the Bishop's presentation of his views. Ihave had no dis position to set up any specious or pretended arguments in order to refute them; I am too much in earnest for that. I did not even seek an inexperienced or unlearned layman with whom to discuss for the sake of confounding; but, on the contrary, I sought the most distinguished and learned Prelate within my reach, and if he has replied to, without answering, my arguments, it may be safely assumed that it is because they are unanswerable. The correspondence was a real one,1 and I have the right to use the Bishop's argument, which I think covers pretty much all that can be said for his Church, and I use it in his own words. Book Synopsis Trinity and Truth by : Bruce Marshall
Download or read book Trinity and Truth written by Bruce Marshall and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two closely related questions receive distinctively theological answers in this study: What is truth? and How can we tell whether what we have said is true? Bruce Marshall proposes that the Christian community's identification of God as the Trinity serves as the key to a theologically adequate treatment of these questions. Professor Marshall argues on trinitarian grounds that the Christian way of identifying God ought to have unrestricted primacy when it comes to the justification of belief, and he proposes a trinitarian way of reshaping the concept of truth. Direct engagement with the current philosophical debate about truth, meaning and belief (in Quine and others) suggests that a trinitarian account of epistemic justification and truth is also more philosophically compelling than the approaches generally favoured in modern theology, as exemplified by Schleiermacher, Ritschl, Rahner and others. Marshall offers a contemporary way of conceiving of the Christian God as 'the truth'.

Book Synopsis The Dogma of Christ by : Erich Fromm
Download or read book The Dogma of Christ written by Erich Fromm and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2023-12-19 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Fromm’s developing thought merits the critical attention of all concerned with the human condition and its future.” —The Washington Post The essays in this fascinating volume examine present-day psychological and cultural problems with the keen insight and humanistic sympathies characteristic of Erich Fromm’s work. The Dogma of Christ provides some of the sharpest critical insights into how the contemporary world of human destructiveness and violence can no longer separate religion, psychology, and politics. The book brilliantly summarizes Fromm’s ideas on how culture and society shape our behavior. “It’s the new post-religious theme song. The Fromm exhortations are imaginative and he has a definite audience.” —Kirkus Reviews “Of all the psychological theorists who have tried to formulate a system better than Freud’s to approach problems of contemporary life, no one has been more creative or influential than Erich Fromm. He is the most articulate advocate on the role of social forces in molding our character and on our manner of relating to others. This volume is an expansion of his systematic doctrine.” —Louis L. Lunsky, MD, Archives of Internal Medicine
