Book excerpt: Chemistry with Inorganic Qualitative Analysis is a textbook that describes the application of the principles of equilibrium represented in qualitative analysis and the properties of ions arising from the reactions of the analysis. This book reviews the chemistry of inorganic substances as the science of matter, the units of measure used, atoms, atomic structure, thermochemistry, nuclear chemistry, molecules, and ions in action. This text also describes the chemical bonds, the representative elements, the changes of state, water and the hydrosphere (which also covers water pollution and water purification). Water purification occurs in nature through the usual water cycle and by the action of microorganisms. The air flushes dissolved gases and volatile pollutants; when water seeps through the soil, it filters solids as they settle in the bottom of placid lakes. Microorganisms break down large organic molecules containing mostly carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur, or phosphorus into harmless molecules and ions. This text notes that natural purification occurs if the level of contaminants is not so excessive. This textbook is suitable for both chemistry teachers and students.

Book Synopsis Recent Advances in Spatial Equilibrium Modelling by : Jeroen C.J.M.van den Bergh
Download or read book Recent Advances in Spatial Equilibrium Modelling written by Jeroen C.J.M.van den Bergh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prices and quantities of both stock and flow variables in an economic system are decisively influenced by their spatial coordinates. Any equilibrium state also mirrors the underlying spatial structure and a tatonnement process also incorporates the spatial ramifications of consumer and producer behaviour. The recognition ofthe spatial element in the formation of a general equilibrium in a complex space-economy already dates back to early work of LOsch, Isard and Samuelson, but it reached a stage of maturity thanks to the new inroads made by T. Takayama. This book is devoted to spatial economic equilibrium (SPE) analysis and is meant to pay homage to the founding father of modern spatial economic thinking, Professor Takayama. This book witnesses his great talents in clear and rigorous economic thinking regarding an area where for decades many economists have been groping in the dark. Everybody who wants to study the phenomenon of spatial economic equilibrium will necessarily come across Takayama's work, but this necessity is at the same time a great pleasure. Studying his work means a personal scientific enrichment in a field which is still not completely explored. The present volume brings together recent contributions to spatial equilibrium analysis, written by friends and colleagues of Takayama. The structure of the book is based on four main uses of spatial equilibrium models: (i) the imbedding of spatial flows in the economic environment, related to e.g.

The Handbook covers numerous subjects in detail including, among others, the tools of lattice programming, supermodular and aggregative games, monopolistic competition, horizontal and vertically differentiated good models, dynamic and Stackelberg games, entry games, evolutionary games with adaptive players, asymmetric information, moral hazard, learning and information sharing models.
Book Synopsis A Basic Introduction to Pollutant Fate and Transport by : Frank M. Dunnivant
Download or read book A Basic Introduction to Pollutant Fate and Transport written by Frank M. Dunnivant and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-02-17 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A uniquely accessible text on environmental modeling designed for both students and industry personnel Pollutant fate and modeling are becoming increasingly important in both regulatory and scientific areas. However, the complexity of the software and models often act as an inhibitor to the advancement of water quality science. A Basic Introduction to Pollutant Fate and Transport fills the need for a basic instructional tool for students and environmental professionals who lack the rigorous mathematical background necessary to derive the governing fate and transport equations. Taking a refreshingly simple approach to the subject that requires only a basic knowledge of algebra and first-year college chemistry, the book presents and integrates all of the aspects of fate and transport, including chemistry, modeling, risk assessment, and relevant environmental legislation; approaching each topic first conceptually before introducing the math necessary to model it. The first half of the book is dedicated to the chemistry and physics behind the fate and transport models, while the second half teaches and reinforces the logical concepts underlying fate and transport modeling. This better prepares students for support jobs in the environmental arena surrounding chemical industry and Superfund sites. Contributing to the book's ease of use are: An extremely user-friendly software program, Fate, which uses basic models to predict the fate and transport of pollutants in lakes, rivers, groundwater, and atmospheric systems The use of "canned" models to evaluate the importance of model parameters and sensitivity analysis A wealth of easy-to-understand examples and problems A chapter on environmental legislation in the United States and Europe A set of lab exercises, as well as a downloadable set of teaching aids A much-needed basic text for contemporary hydrology or environmental chemistry courses and support courses forthe environmental industry, this is a valuable desk reference for educators and industry professionals.

Book Synopsis Analysis of Enzyme Reaction Kinetics by : F. Xavier Malcata
Download or read book Analysis of Enzyme Reaction Kinetics written by F. Xavier Malcata and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-07-26 with total page 1888 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensively introduces readers to modelling of rate of enzymatic reactions, including effects of physicochemical parameters Analysis of Enzyme Reaction Kinetics is the second set in a unique eleven-volume collection on Enzyme Reactor Engineering. It describes rate expressions pertaining to enzymatic reactions, including modulation by physicochemical factors, as well as tools for prediction and control of how fast substrates are transformed to products. Volume 1 details rate expressions mathematically derived from mechanistic postulates, and is complemented by appropriate statistical approaches to fit them to experimental data. Volume 2 discusses the effects of physical and chemical parameters upon the rates of both enzyme-catalyzed and enzyme-deactivation reactions. Starting with basic concepts and historical perspectives, the first volume introduces readers to the mathematics of rate expressions. It then goes on to cover kinetic features and the many forms of Michaelis & Menten’s-type rate expressions (single and multiple enzymes, autocatalysis, single and multiple substrates, multiphasic systems, etc.), and concludes with the statistical analysis of rate expressions – including the assessment of data, fitting of models to data, and generation of data themselves. The second volume introduces readers to physicochemical modulation of reaction rate – starting with basic concepts, and looking specifically at temperature-, mechanical force-, pH- and compound-driven effects: both unimodal and bimodal deactivation are considered. Analysis of Enzyme Reaction Kinetics 2V Set is a comprehensive work for those studying or working with enzyme reactions, or practitioners involved in the control of reactors. SERIES INFORMATION Enzyme Reactor Engineering is organized into four major sets: Enzyme Reaction Kinetics and Reactor Performance; Analysis of Enzyme Reaction Kinetics; Analysis of Enzyme Reactor Performance; and Mathematics for Enzyme Reaction Kinetics and Reaction Performance.

Book Synopsis Distressed US Industries in the Era of Globalization by : Lall Ramrattan
Download or read book Distressed US Industries in the Era of Globalization written by Lall Ramrattan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents analyses of several distressed industries in the United States, including the steel, footwear, textile and apparel, paper and publishing, and automobile industries. It particular, it focuses on the influence of the new era of globalization on these industries, as the authors argue that the transition to their current distressed states was triggered by the structural changes that resulted from globalization. While the inevitability of the negative impact of globalization may lead some to neglect research of distressed industries, these industries continue to survive and productively contribute to the economic base of the United States. Their stories are about the changing structure, conduct, and performance of the industrial United States.
