Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An implicit characteristic-based approach for numerical solution of Maxwell's time-dependent curl equations in flux conservative form is introduced. This method combines a characteristic based finite difference spatial approximation with an implicit lower-upper approximate factorization (LU/AF) time integration scheme. This approach is advantageous for three-dimensional applications. Results are given both for a Fourier analysis of stability, damping and dispersion properties, and for one-dimensional model problems involving propagation and scattering for free space and dielectric materials using both u iform and nonuniform grids. The explicit FDTD algorithm is used as a convenient reference algorithm for comparison.

Book Synopsis Characteristic Based Methods for the Time-domain Maxwell Equations by : J. S. Shang
Download or read book Characteristic Based Methods for the Time-domain Maxwell Equations written by J. S. Shang and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical procedures for solving the time-domain Maxwell equations based on the theory of characteristics were successfully developed. Both explicit and implicit methods were formulated by the time-central and spatial-windward algorithm to better describe wave motion. A new trapezoidal consistent implicit scheme was shown to be unconditionally stable for the linear initial value system and was able to generate numerical solutions comparable to those of the established explicit method. The formulation of the three-dimensional system including generalized coordinate system was completed but not explored. The present 2-D results on Cartesian frame demonstrated a potential for numerical efficiency improvement. Time-domain Maxwell equation, Trapezoidal consistent implicit scheme, Cartesian frame.

Book Synopsis Computational Electromagnetics and Its Applications by : Thomas G. Campbell
Download or read book Computational Electromagnetics and Its Applications written by Thomas G. Campbell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the first ICASE/LaRC Work shop on Computational Electromagnetics and Its Applications conducted by the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering and NASA Langley Research Center. We had several goals in mind when we decided, jointly with the Elec tromagnetics Research Branch, to organize this workshop on Computa tional Electromagnetics ( CEM). Among our goals were a desire to obtain an overview of the current state of CEM, covering both algorithms and ap plications and their effect on NASA's activities in this area. In addition, we wanted to provide an attractive setting for computational scientists with expertise in other fields, especially computational fluid dynamics (CFD), to observe the algorithms and tools of CEM at work. Our expectation was that scientists from both fields would discover mutually beneficial inter connections and relationships. Another goal was to learn of progress in solution algorithms for electromagnetic optimization and design problems; such problems make extensive use of field solvers and computational effi ciency is at a premium. To achieve these goals we assembled the renowned group of speakers from academia and industry whose talks are contained in this volume. The papers are printed in the same order in which the talks were pre sented at the meeting. The first paper is an overview of work currently being performed in the Electromagnetic Research Branch at the Langley Research Center.

Book Synopsis Computing Handbook by : Allen Tucker
Download or read book Computing Handbook written by Allen Tucker and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-05-29 with total page 3851 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two volume set of the Computing Handbook, Third Edition (previously theComputer Science Handbook) provides up-to-date information on a wide range of topics in computer science, information systems (IS), information technology (IT), and software engineering. The third edition of this popular handbook addresses not only the dramatic growth of computing as a discipline but also the relatively new delineation of computing as a family of separate disciplines as described by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the IEEE Computer Society (IEEE-CS), and the Association for Information Systems (AIS). Both volumes in the set describe what occurs in research laboratories, educational institutions, and public and private organizations to advance the effective development and use of computers and computing in today's world. Research-level survey articles provide deep insights into the computing discipline, enabling readers to understand the principles and practices that drive computing education, research, and development in the twenty-first century. Chapters are organized with minimal interdependence so that they can be read in any order and each volume contains a table of contents and subject index, offering easy access to specific topics. The first volume of this popular handbook mirrors the modern taxonomy of computer science and software engineering as described by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the IEEE Computer Society (IEEE-CS). Written by established leading experts and influential young researchers, it examines the elements involved in designing and implementing software, new areas in which computers are being used, and ways to solve computing problems. The book also explores our current understanding of software engineering and its effect on the practice of software development and the education of software professionals. The second volume of this popular handbook demonstrates the richness and breadth of the IS and IT disciplines. The book explores their close links to the practice of using, managing, and developing IT-based solutions to advance the goals of modern organizational environments. Established leading experts and influential young researchers present introductions to the current status and future directions of research and give in-depth perspectives on the contributions of academic research to the practice of IS and IT development, use, and management.
