He has second thoughts about that when he meets Mark Goode and they become friends with benefits. When Mark figures out Ash is a thief, he claims to be one as well. After some consideration, Ash agrees to take him along on his next job -- retrieving a stolen statuette. When Mark betrays him by taking the statuette from him at gun point, Ash vows to get even. Book excerpt: 'Pure escapism in the mould of Dan Brown or Indiana Jones...vivid evocations of place' Saturday Age 'Achilles? Because...?' 'Obsession of mine. Half man, half god - and his own worst enemy. My kind of man.' He laughed. Istanbul, Turkey 1955 Benedict Hitchens, once a world-renowned archaeologist, is now a discredited - but still rather charming - shell of his former self. Once full of optimism and adventure, his determination to prove that Achilles was a real historical figure led him to his greatest love, Karina, on the island of Crete and to his greatest downfall, following the disappearance of an enigmatic stranger, Eris. He has one last chance to restore his reputation, solve the mystery of Eris and prove his Achilles theory. But it is full of risk, and possibly fatal consequences... In her breakout novel, Meaghan Wilson Anastasios weaves an action-packed tale of honour, passion, heroes and thieves across an epic backdrop of history. PRAISE FOR THE HONOURABLE THIEF 'Strongly drawn...Dialogue pithy, scenes great, locations colourful, action pedal-to-the-metal...Lights, camera, action' Herald Sun '...enthralling tale of mystery and archaeology. Set across three periods of the protagonist's life, Anastasios masterfully weaves the storylines together, while also exploring significant periods of Greek and Turkish history. A powerful and remarkable story.' Canberra Weekly 'Action, adventure and archaeology all rolled into a well-researched, engagingly written narrative, this novel is sure to appeal to a wide readership who are prepared for a bumpy, but enjoyable, ride.' Good Reading 'Anastasios is an exciting storyteller with a flair for pace and dramatic tension - this is a gripping adventure, beautifully realised.' Herald Weekly Times 'There is action and drama aplenty...the archaeological details, both real and fictional, as well as the Mediterranean setting...are beautifully described with the passion and knowledge expected from an author whose former occupation was as an archaeologist.' Books and Publishing 'Set mostly in Turkey and Greece between 1939 and 1955, this action-packed historical novel follows the adventures of discredited archaeologist, Benedict Hitchens. It's a classic hero's journey with a slightly unlikely hero. Hitchens is an emotionally and ethically dubious character whose life-long passion is to prove the existence of the mythical character, Achilles. This all-encompassing quest and his part in selling dodgy antiquities, taint Hitchens' reputation as a respected academic. Along the way he encounters love and loss and finds himself in a life and death battle with several dramatic outcomes.' Historical Novel Society 'A very compelling story about the intersection of mythology, history and archaeology' Writing NSW

Dismas reveals that he has an important task: keep the dagger safe until he returns. The dagger encrusted with jewels and garnished with gold is the most valuable thing Ezekiel has ever seen. He quickly hides the dagger and his father leaves and does not return for eight years. Presuming him dead, Ezekiel sells the dagger at the market for enough money to build three fishing boats. He is encouraged to seek out Yeshua a local carpenter. Yeshua refuses to build the boats telling Ezekiel that he must return the money and get the dagger back or someone in his family will die. Ezekiel does not listen. A few years later his father returns in chains and needs the dagger to buy his freedom from the Romans. If Dismas does not return the dagger, then he could be sentenced to the cross.

Book excerpt: In this fairy tale Regency romance by USA Today bestselling and HOLT Medallion winning author BREE WOLF, a mousy wallflower with a secret and a dark lord with one of his own come to see that the fun begins when the masks come off. An unusual wallflower. A knight of the road. And a moment that changed all they thought they knew. MISS CAROLINE HAWKINS never gets looked at twice. She is never asked to dance or called on by a gentleman. In fact, gentlemen hardly notice she is even there, easily looking past her at the more alluring ladies of English society… …which is precisely how Caroline wants it. After all, she puts a lot of work into her appearance, powdering her hair to ensure it loses its shine and looks dull and unassuming. Thick spectacles hide her bright and watchful eyes, and wide, gray gowns buttoned to her chin conceal any female curves that might draw unwanted attention. In short: Caroline’s disguise is perfect… …or almost perfect because, to Caroline’s dismay, one particular gentleman will not be swayed. People call him THE BLACK BARON. The moment PIERCE BYRNE, BARON MARKHAM, glimpses this little gray mouse of a woman he knows something about her is…odd. Intriguingly odd. Fascinatingly odd. Odd in a way that makes him want to know more about her. By sheer happenstance, Pierce stumbles upon her one night and realizes how very right he has been. Caroline Hawkins is indeed odd, for she has been hiding a secret from all of London society that makes her perfect for him. After all, he, too, hides a secret…one Caroline swears to discover as the two of them go head to head. When the dust settles, will they still be strangers? Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perestroika and the end of the Soviet Union transformed every aspect of life in Russia, and as hope began to give way to pessimism, popular culture came to reflect the anxiety and despair felt by more and more Russians. Free from censorship for the first time in Russia's history, the popular culture industry (publishing, film, and television) began to disseminate works that featured increasingly explicit images and descriptions of sex and violence. In Overkill, Eliot Borenstein explores this lurid and often-disturbing cultural landscape in close, imaginative readings of such works as You're Just a Slut, My Dear! (Ty prosto shliukha, dorogaia!), a novel about sexual slavery and illegal organ harvesting; the Nympho trilogy of books featuring a Chechen-fighting sex addict; and the Mad Dog and Antikiller series of books and films recounting, respectively, the exploits of the Russian Rambo and an assassin killing in the cause of justice. Borenstein argues that the popular cultural products consumed in the post-perestroika era were more than just diversions; they allowed Russians to indulge their despair over economic woes and everyday threats. At the same time, they built a notion of nationalism or heroism that could be maintained even under the most miserable of social conditions, when consumers felt most powerless. For Borenstein, the myriad depictions of deviance in pornographic and also detectiv fiction, with their patently excessive and appalling details of social and moral decay, represented the popular culture industry's response to the otherwise unimaginable scale of Russia's national collapse. "The full sense of collapse," he writes, "required a panoptic view that only the media and culture industry were eager to provide, amalgamating national collapse into one master narrative that would then be readily available to most individuals as a framework for understanding their own suffering and their own fears."
