Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This travel guide focuses on places that Holy Land tour groups typically visit and gives major attention to connections between the Bible and the land. The Holy Land is understood to overlap both present-day Israel and Jordan, so places like Gilead, Mount Nebo, Bethany-beyond-the-Jordan, and Petra are included. And while the biblical periods and biblical connections remain in the forefront, these are explored in the context of the Holy Land’s long and fascinating history. Ancient “tells” dating back to the Bronze Age, colonnaded streets and temples from Hellenistic and Roman times, early Christian pilgrimage destinations, Crusader castles, Mamluk and Ottoman fortifications—all illustrated with chronological charts, maps, site plans, and photographs.

Book Synopsis Why Did Yahweh and His Son Yahshuah Say What They Said? by : Dr. Justin G. Prock
Download or read book Why Did Yahweh and His Son Yahshuah Say What They Said? written by Dr. Justin G. Prock and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2020-05-07 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: YAHWEH (The LORD God) and His Son YAHSHUAH (Jesus Christ) made statements with regard to Eschatology that have been “Spiritualized” for over a Millennium, which has led to the belief in Universalism, the belief that YAHSHUAH died for EVERYONE. Well, after one studies the original languages of the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, the message of the Kingdom of God was preached to and accepted by a certain House in the Bible. The other House rejected this message, and YAHSHUAH punished that House by taking the Kingdom away from them and giving It to another nation bringing forth fruit. There are only the House of Israel, the House of Judah, and the House of David, mentioned in the Bible. All three existed then, as they do today. However, most of today’s Babylonian Priesthood/Churchianity refuses to accept the secular historical position with regard to the House of Israel, and who they are today. The people groups, which YAHWEH and YAHSHUAH addressed, still exist today. However, these people are all mixed-up, and known by different names, but they DO exist. This book goes back to the origin of these people groups in the Bible, and brings them forward to the present using their old names, in order to understand Eschatology. This brings us to the major question of, “Is the Bible only about Israel?” And, if so, how does it affect our Eschatology today? This book answers these hard questions...
Download or read book River Jordan written by Rachel Havrelock and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2011-12 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the site of several miracles in the Jewish and Christian traditions, the Jordan is one of the world’s holiest rivers. It is also the major political and symbolic border contested by Israelis and Palestinians. Combining biblical and folkloric studies with historical geography, Rachel Havrelock explores how the complex religious and mythological representations of the river have shaped the current conflict in the Middle East. Havrelock contends that the intractability of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict stems from the nationalist myths of the Hebrew Bible, where the Jordan is defined as a border of the Promised Land. Both Israelis and Palestinians claim the Jordan as a necessary boundary of an indivisible homeland. Examining the Hebrew Bible alongside ancient and modern maps of the Jordan, Havrelock chronicles the evolution of Israel’s borders based on nationalist myths while uncovering additional myths that envision Israel as a bi-national state. These other myths, she proposes, provide roadmaps for future political configurations of the nation. Ambitious and masterful in its scope, River Jordan brings a fresh, provocative perspective to the ongoing struggle in this violence-riddled region.

Book Synopsis Introducing the Holy Land by : J. Maxwell Miller
Download or read book Introducing the Holy Land written by J. Maxwell Miller and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every year, Professor Maxwell Miller, a distinguished archaeologist and Old Testament scholar, conducts a selected group on a tour of Israel and Jordan. This guidebook was originally prepared for their private use and has gone through several editions in that form. It is designed primarily for first-time visitors and provides a survey of the geography and history of Palestine, supported with maps, archaeological plans and chronological outlines; there are also a large number of photographs. While the emphasis is on biblical times and places, it takes into account the whole sweep of Middle Eastern history including, for example, the Crusades and the events leading to the current Arab-Israeli conflict. There are three parts. Part I is a general orientation, providing historical and geographical information. Part II focusses on the actual place which tourists normally visit - or should visit - in the Holy Land and gives information about each site, including simplified road maps, site plans and excerpts from ancient documents. Part III is packed with details - a compact and valuable reference work. The guide is essential reading for those fortunate enough to visit the Holy Land; and those unable to can still learn a good deal from a reading in armchair or classroom. J. Maxwell Miller is Associate Professor of Old Testament in the Candler School of Theology, Emory University, Atlanta.

Book Synopsis The History of Ancient Israel: A Guide for the Perplexed by : Philip R. Davies
Download or read book The History of Ancient Israel: A Guide for the Perplexed written by Philip R. Davies and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-10-22 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The History of Ancient Israel: A Guide for the Perplexed provides the student with the perfect guide to why and how the history of this most contested region has been studies, and why it continues to be studied today. Philip R. Davies, one of the leading scholars of Ancient Israel in recent years, begins by examining the relevance of the study of Ancient Israel, giving an overview of the sources and issues facing historians in approaching the material. Davies then continues by looking at the various theories and hypotheses that scholars have advanced throughout the 20th century, showing how different approaches are presented and in some cases how they are both underpinned and undermined by a range of ideological perspectives. Davies also explains the rise and fall of Biblical Archaeology, the 'maximalist/minimalist' debate. After this helpful survey of past methodologies Davies introduces readers to the current trends in biblical scholarship in the present day, covering areas such as cultural memory, the impact of literary and social scientific theory, and the notion of 'invented history'. Finally, Davies considers the big question: how the various sources of knowledge can be combined to write a modern history that combines and accounts for all the data available, in a meaningful way. This new guide will be a must for students of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament.
