Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Experimental Study of Hunger in Its Relation to Activity The present study of hunger and activity was undertaken at the psychological laboratory of Johns Hopkins Hospital, first in the summer of 1920, and more systematically, from February, 1921, to February, 1922. Owing to the fact that it is a new field of work for the psychological laboratory, and especially, that it was a new field for the experimenter, numerous trials and errors were made. Though further researches are eagerly hoped for and needed along this line, it is encouraging that this one and a half year's experimentation yielded certain definite results, which are presented in the following pages.
