Book Synopsis The Effect of an Arbitrary Surface-temperature Variation Along a Flat Plate on the Convective Heat Transfer in an Incompressible Turbulent Boundary Layer by : Morris W. Rubesin

Rubesin and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis was performed to determine the effects on the rates of convective heat transfer produced by arbitrary variations of the surface temperature with distance along a flat plate. The analysis was confined to the case of a low-speed turbulent boundary layer on a flat plate oriented parallel to the free-stream velocity. It was found that a continuously variable surface temperature has, in general, a smaller effect on the local convective heat transfer than does a surface-temperature discontinuity.

This book was released on 1961 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted in a hypersonic shock tunnel to determine the local heat transfer rates for a sharp leading edge flat plate. The free stream Mach number range was 7.95 to 25.l with stagnation temperatures of approximately 2550 and 6500 R. For these temperature and Mach number conditions, the strong interaction parameter varied from 2.35 to 826. The corresponding Knudsen numbers, based on the ratio of the free stream mean free path and the leading edge thickness, varied from 0.38 to 85.5. The sputtered platinum heat gages were dynamically calibrated by passing a moderate strength shock wave across the gages and observing the change in resistance due to a step function temperature rise. By this method the gage characteristics were determined for the same pressure rises encountered in the test section.

Book Synopsis Experimental Heat-transfer and Friction Coefficients for Air Flowing Through Stacks of Parallel Flat Plates by : Eldon W. Sams
Download or read book Experimental Heat-transfer and Friction Coefficients for Air Flowing Through Stacks of Parallel Flat Plates written by Eldon W. Sams and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Forced-convection heat-transfer and pressure-drop data were obtained for stacks of parallel flat plates of short length-to-effective-diameter ratio. Two such stacks were alined [sic] and misalined [sic] in the direction of air flow with gap spacings between stacks of 1/32, 1/8, and 1/4 inch. Data were obtained with heat addition to the downstream stack only over a range of Reynolds number from 15,000 to 80,000 and average surface temperatures of about 680° R. The average and local heat-transfer coefficients were only slightly higher than predicted values from established round tube data. The friction data for both stacks are compared.
