Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Egyptian Hieroglyphic Dictionary, Vol. 1 of 2: With an Index of English Words, King List and Geographical List With Indexes, List of Hieroglyphic Characters, Coptic and Semitic Alphabets, Etc Curiously enough Young did not follow up his discovery by a continued application of his phonetic principle to Egyptian inscriptions other than those on the Rosetta Stone, but seems to have been content to leave its further application and development to Champollion 1e Jeune.2 And for some reason he made no attempt to add to the Egyptian Vocabulary containing 218 words which he published in his article egypt in the Encyclo/xedia Britannica, or if he did, his additions were never printed. On the other hand, he devoted himself to the preparation of a Demotic Dictionary and this work occupied the last ten years of his life. The Advertise ment is of considerable interest, for it shows that it was only his inability to decide upon the system of arrangement that ought to be employed in an Egyptian Dictionary, that prevented him from publishing the work during his lifetime. His difficulty is described by him thus. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hieroglyphic Dictionary is part of Museum Tours' series "The Essentials" ... books that anyone serious about the study of Egyptology will find useful. It has been created to fill a need for a low cost, yet comprehensive, translation aid to hieroglyphs that is convenient to use. Its emphasis is on words found in monumental inscriptions, as opposed to words found strictly in papyri. The words it contains are most likely to be encountered on the monuments in Egypt or in museums. It contains a about 4,000 entries. This compares favorably to the 2,500 entries in the vocabulary of Alan Gardiner's "Egyptian Grammar", and the 5,000 plus entries in Raymond Faulkner's "Dictionary of Middle Egyptian". The volume's convenient size makes it ideal for everyday use anywhere one happens to be, a local museum or the monuments in Egypt. It is a "must have" for any serious student, Egyptologist or Egyptophile. From Museum Tours Press.

Book Synopsis An Analytical Concordance of the Verb, the Negation and the Syntax in Egyptian Coffin Texts (2 vols) by : Rami van der Molen
Download or read book An Analytical Concordance of the Verb, the Negation and the Syntax in Egyptian Coffin Texts (2 vols) written by Rami van der Molen and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2004-12-01 with total page 1960 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume is the long-awaited concordance of the Egyptian coffin texts. It forms the sequel to A Hieroglyphic Dictionary of Egyptian Coffin Texts by the same author. In 1961 A. de Buck published his important seven-volume corpus Egyptian Coffin Texts. The importance of these texts is considerable for a variety of reasons; they are one of the most important literary texts of classical Egypt; the many variants greatly enlarge our understanding of grammar and linguistic structures; the coffin texts are magical texts, the effectiveness of which depended upon the exact reproductions of the original spells. In this concordance the various readings of each lemma are provided in transliteration into the Latin alphabet, which makes the concordance easily accessible for those unable to read hieroglyphs. The material is divided into the morphological categories of the verb; within each category the verbs are treated in alphabetical order.

Download or read book Esoteric Egypt written by J. S. Gordon and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-01-30 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of the 100,000-year-old spiritual science of ancient Egypt • Examines the metaphysical structure of our universe as seen by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Celts, showing that each is based on the same central concepts from time immemorial • Reveals that the ancient Egyptians believed in reincarnation and a spiritual evolutionary process • Explains the connections between the movements of Orion and Sirius and the story of Osiris and Isis, the importance of the Pleiades and circumpolar stars to the Egyptians, and the fundamental unity of the Egyptian pantheon • Investigates the people who colonized greater Egypt 100,000 years ago, descendants of the Atlanteans In Esoteric Egypt, J. S. Gordon reveals how the sacred science and wisdom tradition of ancient Egypt--the Land of Khem--stems from an advanced prehistoric worldwide civilization. Examining the metaphysical structure of our universe as seen by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Celts, he shows that each tradition is merely a variation on the central concepts of the precession of the equinoxes and the obliquity of the ecliptic pole. He explores the connections between the cyclical movements of Orion and Sirius and the story of Osiris and Isis, the importance of the Pleiades and the circumpolar stars, and the ancient tradition of man as a divine being “born from the substance of the stars.” He investigates the people who colonized greater Egypt 100,000 years ago, the progenitors of ancient Egyptian civilization descended from the 4th- and 5th-Root Race Atlanteans. Gordon explores the magical and esoteric meanings behind Egyptian sacred ritual and temple art, drawing parallels to the Mystery School process of initiation. Explaining the fundamental unity of the Egyptian pantheon and the structure of the after-death state, he shows that the Egyptians clearly believed in reincarnation and a spiritual evolutionary process. Revealing the ancient sacred science of the Land of Khem, teachings passed down from the earliest times, he examines the psychospiritual nature of the human being and the function of our spiritual identity and our souls.
