Book Synopsis Uk Energy Experience, The: A Model A Warning? - Proceedings Of The British Institute Of Energy Economics Conference by : G Mackerron
Download or read book Uk Energy Experience, The: A Model A Warning? - Proceedings Of The British Institute Of Energy Economics Conference written by G Mackerron and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996-03-30 with total page 531 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The UK energy system has experienced radical reform in past decade — privatisation, liberalisation, re-structuring and re-regulation for gas/electricity supply and coal, plus rapid technological change and flexible fiscal policy in offshore oil/gas. Many countries are seeking to travel similar paths, though more slowly (eg USA, EU, Eastern Europe, Latin America, Pacific Rim) and are following UK experience. The conference brings together academics, business economists and consultants to give the first major evaluation from an economics pespective of the extent to which the UK experience has been successful, and how far it might be reproduced elsewhere.

Book Synopsis Potential for Industrial Energy-Efficiency Improvement in the Long Term by : J. de Beer
Download or read book Potential for Industrial Energy-Efficiency Improvement in the Long Term written by J. de Beer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book does not give a prediction of what the efficiency will be of the energy use of industrial processes in the future. However, it does give an exploration of limits to the efficiency of current processes and an indication of what might be achieved if new technologies can be developed. At the Department of Science, Technology and Society of Utrecht University research had been done to the opportunities for improvement of the energy efficiency in the short term since the 1980's. This had resulted in a comprehensive database on energy efficient measures. This database and a possible application are described in Chapter 3 of this book. The use of the database induced new research themes around efficiency improvement, e.g. concerning barriers for implementation of measures. It was around 1993 that I did a preliminary study to the potential for efficiency improvement in the long term. Historical analysis had shown us that the short term potential stayed constant over the years. It seemed to be replenished by the introduction of new technologies. This lead to the question whether there are limits to the efficiency, taking into account both thermodynamic considerations and ideas on the development and dissemination of new technologies.
Book Synopsis Energy Demand and Planning by : J.C. McVeigh
Download or read book Energy Demand and Planning written by J.C. McVeigh and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy, Demand and Planning brings together a group of distinguished authors from many relevant disciplines, under the auspices of the Watt Committee on Energy. The authors were asked to consider the effects of policy decisions that might be taken now on the planning of the world energy industries in the coming half-century or so. Discussion is held on such key topics as technological change, sustainable development, global warming and the effects of population growth, all of which require policy decisions at national and international levels, affecting the daily lives of people in both advanced and developing countries.
Book Synopsis International Energy Experience, The: Markets, Regulation And The Environment by : G Mackerron
Download or read book International Energy Experience, The: Markets, Regulation And The Environment written by G Mackerron and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000-04-19 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How far can energy markets be free as well as competitive? What do low oil prices mean for the oil industry and other energy markets? How can economic efficiency in the energy industries be reconciled with environmental protection? How far is the UK model of liberalising electricity and gas industries being applied elsewhere in the world and how is it faring, at home and abroad? These are typical questions addressed in this collection of articles written by an international group of economists. Edited by the leaders of the two leading UK academic centres of energy economics, the book demonstrates how important the analysis of policy and regulatory frameworks has become for those interested in efficient energy and environmental outcomes./a

Book Synopsis Renewable Energy in the UK by : David Elliott
Download or read book Renewable Energy in the UK written by David Elliott and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-08 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a detailed account of how renewable energy has moved from the margins to the mainstream in the UK, and of the battles that have been fought to achieve this, trawling through the often troubled history of government involvement. The book examines how renewables became what now seem likely to be the dominant energy sources of the future. Renewable energy technologies, using solar and wind power and other natural energy sources, are now supplying around 30% of UK electricity and appear set to continue expanding to supply around 50% within the next decade. Although the emphasis of the book is on the UK, developments there are compared with those in other countries to provide an overall assessment of the relevance of the UK experience. Chapters explore why the UK still lags behind many other countries in deploying renewables, in part, it is argued, due to its continued reliance on nuclear power. The book ends with a discussion on what sort of changes may be expected over the coming years. The author does not assume a single answer, but invites readers to consider the possibilities.

Book Synopsis World Energy Assessment by : United Nations Development Programme
Download or read book World Energy Assessment written by United Nations Development Programme and published by UN. This book was released on 2000 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report discusses the linkages between energy and economic, social, environmental, and security issues, and analyses the contradictions between current patterns of use and objectives in these areas. The WEA also reviews energy resources and technology options from the point of view of sustainability including better end-use efficiency, greater reliance on renewable sources of energy, and next-generation nuclear and fossil-fuel technologies. Further, the report examines plausible scenarios for combining various options to achieve a sustainable and relatively prosperous future. The report concludes by examining policy options for producing and using energy in ways that are compatible with sustainable development.
