This book was released on 1963 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The properties of an incompressible fluid in the mixing chamber of a constant area cylindrical ejector are analyzed in a two-dimensional form. The flow field for velocity and temperature is assumed to be made up of regions in which uniform flow of the primary and secondary fluids exist, and which diminish with axial distance from the ejector entrance. The velocity and temperature distributions in the mixed region are assumed to have cosine shaped profiles. The compatible solutions are given an axial distribution by assuming a parabolic spread rate for the secondary fluid jet boundary. Results are generated in the form of a non-dimensional velocity and pressure, a normalized temperature and a Momentum Factor, as functions of axial distance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: Elementary basic solutions of the equations of motion of a compressible fluid in the hodograph variables are developed and used to provide a basis for comparison, in the form of velocity correction formulas, of corresponding compressible and incompressible flows. The known approximate results of Chaplygin, von Kármán and Tsien, Temple and Yarwood, and Prandtl and Glauert are unified by means of the analysis of the present paper. Two new types of approximations, obtained from basic solutions, are introduced; they possess certain desirable features of the other approximations and appear preferable as a basis for extrapolation into the range of high stream Mach numbers and large disturbances to the main stream. Tables and figures giving velocity and pressure-coefficient correction factors are included in order to facilitate the practical application of the results.

Book excerpt: The two-dimensional incompressible mixing layer was investigated by using constant temperature, linearized hot wire anemometers. The measurements were divided into three categories: (1) the conventional average measurements, (2) time-average measurements in the turbulent and the non-turbulent zones, and (3) ensemble average measurements conditioned to a specific location of the interface. The turbulent energy balance was constructed twice, once using the conventional results and again using the turbulent zone results. Some differences transpired between the two sets of results. It appears that the mixing region can be divided into two regions, one on the high velocity side which resembles the outer part of a wake and the other on the low velocity side which resembles a jet. The binding turbulent-non-turbulent interfaces seem to move independently of each other. There is a strong connection between the instantaneous location of the interface and the axial velocity profile. Indeed the well known exponential mean velocity profile never actually exists at any given instant. In spite of the complexity of the flow the simple concepts of eddy viscosity and eddy diffusivity appear to be valid within the turbulent zone. (Author).
