Download or read book Worship written by A. W. Tozer and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2017-08-01 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The best of A. W. Tozer, on one of his favorite subjects Few subjects invigorated A. W. Tozer like the topic of worship. He saw it—like the church has traditionally—as the sole reason for which creation exists. Worship: The Reason We Were Created features collections from the beloved spiritual writer on this important topic. The church's current worship is emaciated; its thoughts of God are too low. Here is a compilation to raise those thoughts high once more, and provoke the church to true, spiritual worship. Topics include: The act and object of worship The Presence of God Worship throughout the week Feelings and emotion in worship Man as a worshipping creature If it's true that we are made to worship God, that it is the sole reason that we exist, that we are most alive when we live for His glory, then reading Worship is more than time well spent. It is time invested in the very foundation of your life.
Download or read book The Holy No written by Adam Hearlson and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2018-07-10 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book Adam Hearlson argues that Christians can say a holy “no” to oppression and injustice through the church’s worship practices. “To speak the holy no,” Hearlson says, “is to refuse to be complicit in the oppression and violence of the ruling power. It is the courageous critique of the present and its claims of immutability.” Hearlson draws widely from Christian history to uncover ways the church has used its traditional practices—preaching, music, sacrament, and art—to sabotage oppressive structures of the world for the sake of the gospel. He tells the stories of particular subversive strategies both past and present, including radical hospitality, genre bending, coded speech, and apocalyptic visions. Blending history, theory, and practice, The Holy No is both a testament to the courage of Christians who came before and an encouragement to take up their mantle of faithful subversion.

Download or read book Ephesians written by Mark D. Roberts and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2016-11-29 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new commentary for today's world, The Story of God Bible Commentary explains and illuminates each passage of Scripture in light of the Bible's grand story. The first commentary series to do so, SGBC offers a clear and compelling exposition of biblical texts, guiding everyday readers in how to creatively and faithfully live out the Bible in their own contexts. Its story-centric approach is ideal for pastors, students, Sunday school teachers, and laypeople alike. Each volume employs three main, easy-to-use sections designed to help readers live out God's story: LISTEN to the Story: Includes complete NIV text with references to other texts at work in each passage, encouraging the reader to hear it within the Bible's grand story. EXPLAIN the Story: Explores and illuminates each text as embedded in its canonical and historical setting. LIVE the Story: Reflects on how each text can be lived today and includes contemporary stories and illustrations to aid preachers, teachers, and students. —Ephesians— Like all of Paul's letters, Ephesians is centered in the gospel and its implications. It tells the story of what God has done in Christ and spells out the ethical implications of this story. But the letter to the Ephesians is unique among Paul's letters in many ways, including in how it tells of the story of God, beginning "before the creation of the world" and ending in eternity. Edited by Scot McKnight and Tremper Longman III, and written by a number of top-notch theologians, The Story of God Bible Commentary series will bring relevant, balanced, and clear-minded theological insight to any biblical education or ministry.

Book Synopsis Whole Life Worship by : Sam Hargreaves
Download or read book Whole Life Worship written by Sam Hargreaves and published by Inter-Varsity Press. This book was released on 2017-03-28 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a continuation of the LICC series begun by Neil Hudson's Imagine Church Whole-Life Worship will demonstrate that the contemporary Western Church has reached a point where our "gathered" worship is separated from our "scattered" lives outside of church. This is detrimental to the congregation's spiritual development and their effectiveness on their "frontlines". Church worship should be inspired and informed by our everyday experiences. It should empower and send the congregation out to continue worshipping. The book will provide patterns and resources to better connect gathered worship with the lives of the congregation beyond church meetings. The book will unpack a biblical grounding for both gathered and scattered worship. It will then identify patterns within our gathered services which help us re-make these connections. It will provide practical resources such as songs, prayers and activities which can help churches connect Sunday to the rest of the week. It will draw examples and stories from other church streams and traditions, to demonstrate how different kinds of Christian spirituality engage worshipfully with everyday life. In the second half of the book is a practical resource looking specifically at different aspects of a gathered service, and how each one can have an "outward" dimension.

Book Synopsis Out of An Act of Worship by : T L Willis
Download or read book Out of An Act of Worship written by T L Willis and published by . This book was released on 2020-08-24 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Out of having a relationship with God, we worship Him. It's out of our experience and our knowledge that we worship Him. We understand that He is worthy and that it is due Him because of who He is and what He has done in our lives. But did you know that there is a place that God wants us to get to in our relationship with Him that goes beyond just worshiping Him in that way? It is where He literally becomes the source of all things for us. He becomes our refuge, our secret place, our strong tower, and our hiding place. HE is where we run to in time of trouble, tragedy, shame, when we have messed up, in victory, in failure, in triumph, and so forth. It is HE that we bow before as sovereign in the face of all. Where it is in Him we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28). HE is the counsel we seek when we make our decisions. HE is the one we lean on for our strength. It's when and where He becomes our all in all (Eph. 1:22-23). It is where we finally understand that HE is in control of our lives and we trust in His ability to do whatever He needs to do in our everyday lives and our circumstances. This is where we leap off the cliff of the mountain with our eyes closed and put the landing in His hands, leaving fear and uncertainty behind but resting in His ability to take care of us. Free from question and not moved by what we see but being led by His Spirit every step of the way. This is that place of total confidence in the God that we serve at the face of all things. What an awesome freedom!
