Download or read book Clinical Optics written by Troy E. Fannin and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clinical Optics is intended primarily for use by optometry students, though it could also prove useful for the training of optometric technicians and dispensing opticians. This book is organized into thirteen chapters. These chapters cover most aspects of ophthalmic optics or clinical optics including the design and dispensing of eyewear, the types for lenses suitable for correcting high refractive errors, the optical principles governing low vision lenses and the importance of absorptive lenses and lens coatings for eye protection against radiation. This book will be of interest to optometry students and to those involved in the training of optometric technicians and dispensing opticians.

Book Synopsis Vegetative Physiology and Biochemistry by : Hugh Davson
Download or read book Vegetative Physiology and Biochemistry written by Hugh Davson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Eye: Volume 1, Vegetative Physiology and Biochemistry is a compendium of papers that describes the physiology of the eye, particularly its gross anatomy and embryology including its intra-ocular fluids, the intra-ocular pressure, the vitreous body, lens, cornea, and sciera. Several papers review the eyeball, the protective apparatus of the eye, the structure of the tissue in relation to the intra-ocular fluids, and the flow of aqueous humor. Several methods can be used to measure the intra-ocular pressure such as the manometric method and the tonometer. Giles (1959) reports that tonometer measurements in the newborn are within the normal adult range. One paper notes that in man, liquefaction of the vitreous body (the clear jelly-like structure which fills the space between retina and lens,) which is caused by dissolution of the fibrous network, is never repaired. This suggests that new fibers are either not formed or are formed in insufficient amounts. Another paper examines the relationship between pressure in the eye vessels and eye tension. Investigators and researches in the fields of physiology, psychology, ophthalmology, and in all branches of ocular physiology will find the compendium very rewarding.

Book Synopsis Lens Design Fundamentals by : Rudolf Kingslake
Download or read book Lens Design Fundamentals written by Rudolf Kingslake and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2009-11-20 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: - Thoroughly revised and expanded to reflect the substantial changes in the field since its publication in 1978 - Strong emphasis on how to effectively use software design packages, indispensable to today's lens designer - Many new lens design problems and examples – ranging from simple lenses to complex zoom lenses and mirror systems – give insight for both the newcomer and specialist in the field Rudolf Kingslake is regarded as the American father of lens design; his book, not revised since its publication in 1978, is viewed as a classic in the field. Naturally, the area has developed considerably since the book was published, the most obvious changes being the availability of powerful lens design software packages, theoretical advances, and new surface fabrication technologies. This book provides the skills and knowledge to move into the exciting world of contemporary lens design and develop practical lenses needed for the great variety of 21st-century applications. Continuing to focus on fundamental methods and procedures of lens design, this revision by R. Barry Johnson of a classic modernizes symbology and nomenclature, improves conceptual clarity, broadens the study of aberrations, enhances discussion of multi-mirror systems, adds tilted and decentered systems with eccentric pupils, explores use of aberrations in the optimization process, enlarges field flattener concepts, expands discussion of image analysis, includes many new exemplary examples to illustrate concepts, and much more. Optical engineers working in lens design will find this book an invaluable guide to lens design in traditional and emerging areas of application; it is also suited to advanced undergraduate or graduate course in lens design principles and as a self-learning tutorial and reference for the practitioner. Rudolf Kingslake (1903-2003) was a founding faculty member of the Institute of Optics at The University of Rochester (1929) and remained teaching until 1983. Concurrently, in 1937 he became head of the lens design department at Eastman Kodak until his retirement in 1969. Dr. Kingslake published numerous papers, books, and was awarded many patents. He was a Fellow of SPIE and OSA, and an OSA President (1947-48). He was awarded the Progress Medal from SMPTE (1978), the Frederic Ives Medal (1973), and the Gold Medal of SPIE (1980). R. Barry Johnson has been involved for over 40 years in lens design, optical systems design, and electro-optical systems engineering. He has been a faculty member at three academic institutions engaged in optics education and research, co-founder of the Center for Applied Optics at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, employed by a number of companies, and provided consulting services. Dr. Johnson is an SPIE Fellow and Life Member, OSA Fellow, and an SPIE President (1987). He published numerous papers and has been awarded many patents. Dr. Johnson was founder and Chairman of the SPIE Lens Design Working Group (1988-2002), is an active Program Committee member of the International Optical Design Conference, and perennial co-chair of the annual SPIE Current Developments in Lens Design and Optical Engineering Conference. - Thoroughly revised and expanded to reflect the substantial changes in the field since its publication in 1978 - Strong emphasis on how to effectively use software design packages, indispensable to today's lens designer - Many new lens design problems and examples – ranging from simple lenses to complex zoom lenses and mirror systems – give insight for both the newcomer and specialist in the field

This book was released on 2007 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deals with the history of eyeglasses from their invention in Italy ca. 1286 to the appearance of the telescope three cent. later. "By the end of the 16th cent. eyeglasses were as common in western and central Europe as desktop computers are in western developed countries today." Eyeglasses served an important technological function at both the intellectual and practical level, not only easing the textual studies of scholars but also easing the work of craftsmen/small bus. During the 15th cent. two crucial developments occurred: the ability to grind convex lenses for various levels of presbyopia and the ability to grind concave lenses for the correction of myopia. As a result, eyeglasses could be made almost to prescription by the early 17th cent. Illus.

Download or read book The Indigenous Lens? written by Markus Ritter and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2017-12-18 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The historiography of early photography has scarcely examined Islamic countries in the Near and Middle East, although the new technique was adopted very quickly there by the 1840s. Which regional, local, and global aspects can be made evident? What role did autochthonous image and art traditions have, and which specific functions did photography meet since its introduction? This collective volume deals with examples from Iran, the Ottoman Empire, and the Arab lands and with the question of local specifics, or an „indigenous lens." The contributions broach the issues of regional histories of photography, local photographers, specific themes and practices, and historical collections in these countries. They offer, for the first time in book form, a cross-section through a developing field of the history of photography.
