Because birds imprint with the one who nurtures them, the rooster thinks the turkey is its mother. As an adopted child herself, the author can relate to being loved by parents who were not her biological parents. Book Synopsis In Turkey I Am Beautiful by : Brendan Shanahan
Download or read book In Turkey I Am Beautiful written by Brendan Shanahan and published by HarperCollins Australia. This book was released on 2008 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From carpet selling to shepherding -- an Australian man's chaotic adventures in Turkey ... When Brendan Shanahan returned to turkey after two years to catch up with old friends he found much had changed. Not only was the country itself transforming but the lives of his turkish friends seemed to be mirroring the growing pains of a nation on the cusp of its biggest transformation since independence. After travelling extensively in the wilds of the east - where, among other things, he found himself in the middle of a gunfight, was propositioned by shepherds and swam to Armenia in his underpants - Brendan eventually agreed to run his friend's carpet shop in Istanbul. With only the dubious help of his carpet-dealer friend, a lovable but frequently demanding bi-polar drug addict, the results were often disastrous, frequently hilarious and occasionally poignant. By the end of his travels he was broke and owned more carpets than floor, but had come to a deeper understanding both of a country he loved and the people he loved in it.

This book was released on 2016-06-20 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the late 1920s until 1965 Maplecrest Turkey Farms of Wellman, Iowa, was a leading pioneer in the modern commercial turkey industry. A. C. Gingerich, an Amish-Mennonite farmer and entrepreneur, was able to successfully develop his business from a handful of turkeys to make Wellman both a “Turkey Capital/Center of the World” and have it uniquely proclaimed as “Thanksgiving Town” by the late 1930s. The Maplecrest brand was known for its premium quality and was available, by name, in leading restaurants also by the late 1930s. This historical book looks at how the modern turkey industry was able to initiate itself largely through knowledge of disease prevention through sanitation means. Some chapters include topics such as how the turkeys were raised, processed and marketed, especially to Eastern markets, e.g. New York City, Boston, etc., and a chapter on World War II discusses the major role that Maplecrest played in producing not only turkeys, but beef, pork and lamb for the armed forces. (219pp. color illus. index. Masthof Press, 2016.)

Book Synopsis Global Identity in Multicultural and International Educational Contexts by : Nigel Bagnall
Download or read book Global Identity in Multicultural and International Educational Contexts written by Nigel Bagnall and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-03-27 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increased movement of people globally has changed the face of national and international schooling. Higher levels of mobility have resulted from both the willing movement of students and their families with a desire to create a better life, and the forced movement of refugee families travelling away from war, famine and other extreme circumstances. This book explores the idea that the complex connections created by the forces of globalisation have led to a diminishing difference between what were once described as international schools and national schools. By examining a selection of responses from students attending international schools in Brazil, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Philippines and Switzerland, the book discusses key issues surrounding identity and cosmopolitan senses of belonging. Chapters draw from current literature and recent qualitative research to highlight the concerns that students face within the international school community, including social, psychological, and academic difficulties. The interviews provide a rich and unique body of knowledge, demonstrating how perceptions of identity and belonging are changing, especially with affiliation to a national or a global identity. The notion that international students have become global citizens through their affiliation to a global rather than a national identity exhibits a changing and potentially irreversible trend. Global Identity in Multicultural and International Educational Contexts will be of key interest to researchers, academics and policy makers involved with international schooling and globalised education.

Book Synopsis Intercultural Foreign Language Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Contexts by : Romanowski, Piotr
Download or read book Intercultural Foreign Language Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Contexts written by Romanowski, Piotr and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2019-02-01 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While research into intercultural teaching has grown exponentially during the past two decades, the research has primarily resorted to the use of quantitative data collection instruments and the interpretation of scores calculated through them. As such, studies in the field can seem somewhat decontextualized, ignoring in some cases setting-specific parameters. Therefore, further study is needed to bring together theory, research, and practice demonstrating how this teaching is reflected in research design and how it is undertaken in different settings. Intercultural Foreign Language Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Contexts is an essential reference source that provides a series of rich insights into the way intercultural education is practiced in numerous international contexts and showcases practical examples of teaching situations and classroom activities that demonstrate its impact within the classroom. Featuring research on topics such as higher education, multilingualism, and professionalism, this book is ideally designed for educators, researchers, administrators, professionals, academicians, and students seeking pedagogical guidance on intercultural teaching.
