Book excerpt: With "The Lucid Dreamer" Althar presents an extensive post script to the five-volume "Althar" series. In this volume, he goes into more detail than ever before about how consciousness brings about the dream of separation and especially physical realities. For the first time he talks about "light world," which is the basis of all realms of existence in separation and which is shared by every entity within separation. One focus of the book is on the role of perception and how it significantly contributes to maintaining the illusion of existing as a separated being. He then introduces "lucid perception" which helps a human to resolve the identification with his body, and which will also be the light body's way of perceiving. Althar compares the awakening to the greater reality to an increasingly surreal dream. As the human gradually lets go of more and more limitations, even the so-called laws of physics, his consciousness is confronted with great challenges and various paradoxes. For example, what is meant by embodiment when there is ultimately no matter? If there are no laws of physics, why does an apple fall to the ground? How can entities have shared experiences when each of them is sovereign and experiences everything "within itself"? In his usual pragmatic, direct, and humorous way, Althar explains his view of things and discusses the implications on the transition phase into the light body. In addition, Althar presents, as if casually, a treasure trove of deep insights which he derives from the fundamental principles of consciousness. In doing so, he puts many of his previous discussions into a larger context and invites the reader to see through the mechanics of separation and go beyond them. With the "Althar Surreal" series, Althar especially wants to support those pioneers of consciousness who live through the adventure of so-called "embodied ascension". Contents: The End of Preparation; Separation and Feedback Loops; Perception and the Ego-Paradox; Separation, Perception, Extinction; The Paradoxical Reality of the Unreal; Welcome to Light World; Lucid Perception - Beyond the Eyes of the Dragon; Caution: You Are Entering Light World!; Ousia - The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of; The Myth of Privacy; Ousia and Feeling Realities; Ousia, Big Bangs, and Physical Objects; How Big Is Your Universe?; The Laws of Physics; The Symbol of Separation; The "All Is In You"-Paradox; The Song of the Dragon; The Lucid Dreamer; The Althar series consists of: Volume 1: "Althar - The Crystal Dragon" Volume 2: "Althar - The New Magi" Volume 3: "Althar - Towards Utopia" Volume 4: "Althar - The Final Letting Go" Volume 5: "Althar - Opus Magnum" For information about workshops and audio recordings, please visit www.wolffram.de

Imagine experiencing your nighttime dreams with the same awareness you possess right now—fully functioning memory, imagination, and self-awareness. Imagine being able to use this power to be more creative, solve problems, and discover a deep sense of well-being. This is lucid dreaming—the ability to know you are dreaming while you are in a dream, and then consciously explore and change the elements of the dream. A Field Guide to Lucid Dreaming, with its evocative retro illustrations, shows exactly how to do it. Written by three avid, experienced lucid dreamers, this manual for the dream world takes the reader from step one—learning how to reconnect with his or her dreams— through the myriad possibilities of what can happen once the dreamer is lucid and an accomplished oneironaut (a word that comes from the Greek oneira, meaning dreams, and nautis, meaning sailor). Readers will learn about the powerful REM sleep stage—a window into lucid dreams. Improve dream recall by keeping a journal. The importance of reality checks, such as “The Finger”—during the day, try to pass your finger through your palm; then, when you actually do it successfully, you’ll know that you’re dreaming. And once you become lucid, how to make the most of it. Every time you dream, you are washing up on the shores of your own inner landscape. Learn to explore a strange and thrilling world with A Field Guide to Lucid Dreaming.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first unabridged English translation of a classic work on dreams by an author regarded as the father of lucid dreaming. First published anonymously in 1867, Dreams and How to Guide Them is the lost classic of lucid dreaming—that is, the art of becoming aware that one is dreaming and then continuing to dream, whether to fly, have erotic encounters, or just explore the dream world further. It has long been a rare and legendary work. Freud knew of it, but never managed to find a copy, and surrealist André Breton begins his own book The Communicating Vessels by discussing it This is the first complete English translation—there was a heavily abridged edition in 1982, much-loved and also rare—and it is now published to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Hervey de Saint-Denys. This new edition is edited and introduced by Phil Baker, who traces the author’s life and connects his work with Tibetan Buddhist dream practices, and surrealism, as well as to more recent research in lucid dreaming.

Book excerpt: This book is for the self, a mysterious concept of individualism and putting responsibility squarely on the shoulders of that said individual. As oneself is one of the few things, anyone has and can control without a shadow of a doubt, or so it seems. A long, judging finger people wave at those things they don't like and want them fixed, rarely is that finger aimed at themselves. For who wants to be their own problem for themselves, the answer no one. No one wants to have to fix their own problems as that is hard. Due to the fact, we spend our lives dreaming, wishing of what could be, but never actually being that which we want, as we seamlessly don't will the change. It can be said that an easy life of little suffering and one where the want is fulfilled is the most desirable life. Eventually, within one's own life, they will discover what it is they truly want and where they want to end up. It is the individual, that creature that can take itself to where it wants to go, or at least to the responsible ones. Within this book, I do my best to go over things of the self, so it can achieve that which it wants, and what it must suffer to get. This book can be split into two sections, the conscious and unconscious. As the name entails "The Lucid Dreamer", it is the parts where he dreams that go over the self. Unlike in a traditional essay, I have written each in a representational allegory with a dash of epic poetry sprinkled in. As I believe it to be impossible to skim over a decent allegory and truly understand what it meant. Also, it adds life and feeling into what would have been an emotionless essay. Take your time and understand not only the words but the meaning and what they represent, as little is straightforward and fully exposed.

Book excerpt: For Bataille, the absence of myth had itself become the myth of the modern age. In a world that had lost the secret of its cohesion, Bataille saw surrealism as both a symptom and a beginning of an attempt to address this loss. His writings on this theme are the result of a profound reflection in the wake of World War Two. The Absence of Myth is the most incisive study yet made of surrealism, insisting on its importance as a cultural and social phenomenon with far-reaching consequences. Clarifying Bataille's links with the surrealist movement, and throwing revealing light on his complex and greatly misunderstood relationship with Andre Breton, The Absence of Myth shows Bataille to be a much more radical figure than his postmodernist devotees would have us believe: a man who continually tried to extend Marxist social theory; a pessimistic thinker, but one as far removed from nihilism as can be.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A consciousness and dream hacker explains how to use liminal dreaming—the dreams that come between sleep and waking—for self-actualization and consciousness expansion. At the edges of consciousness, between waking and sleeping, there’s a swirling, free associative state of mind that is the domain of liminal dreams. Working with liminal dreams can improve sleep, mitigate anxiety and depression, help to heal trauma, and aid creativity and problem-solving. As we sink into slumber, we pass through hypnagogia, the first of the two liminal dream states. In this transitional zone, memories, perceptions, and imaginings arise in a fast moving, hallucinatory, semi-conscious remix. On the other end of the night, as we wake, we experience hypnopompia—the hazy, pleasant, drift that is the other liminal dream state. Readers of Liminal Dreaming will learn step-by-step how to create a dream practice outside of REM-sleep states that they can incorporate into their lives in personally meaningful ways. Liminal dreaming practice is also far easier to learn than lucid dreaming practice, making it possible for the reader to begin working with these dreams this very night.
