Book excerpt: Shock waves of indignation ran across the Muslim world following the recent publication of offensive and crude caricatures of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in some parts of Europe. The un-informed, as ever, misled by the mullah gave in to public display of rage and rampant chaos ensued. Midst this confusion of an undeniably distressing time for all Muslims, spoke the voice of reason, calm and peace, precisely in line with the teachings of the 'prince of peace' himself, the Holy Prophet (may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). This was the voice of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (may Allah be his Helper) that unfolded the reality of the Islamic ways and means to respond to injustice; calling for peace, reasoning, endeavour to enlighten the world with the power of the pen and ultimately to always put one's trust in sincere prayers. He delivered a series of five faith-inspiring and enlightening Friday Sermons on the subject that are a beckon of light for anyone in this often perplexing world that we live in. These Friday Sermons are being presented in this booklet.

Book excerpt: A tribute to Hazrat Sayyedah Nusrat Jahan Begum(ra), the wife of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as), The Promised Messiah. This book is a tribute to Hazrat Sayyedah Nusrat Jahan Begum(ra). She was an inspirational and devout lady who had the special and exalted honour of being the wife of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as), the Promised Messiah and Mahdi awaited by many religions, and the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. The literal meaning of her birth name “Nusrat Jahan” which was “Helper of the World”, was to be a Divine intimation of the profound impact this pious lady would have world-wide. A devoted and loyal life-companion of the Promised Messiah(as), she was also a loving mother, a carer of orphans and a guardian of the sick. Fondly regarded as “Hazrat Amman Jan”, she was also a spiritual mother and source of Islamic knowledge to thousands of ladies of the Community. She also enjoys the exalted status of being the source of a blessed line of four of the Khulafa (spiritual successors), of the Ahmadiyya Community to date. Her depth of faith and conduct were exemplary. Throughout a spectrum of trials such as the loss of children, religious opposition, financial hardships and political unrest, she displayed remarkable fortitude. This book presents an insight into the key events and character of this great Ahmadi role model.

She was the daughter of the Last and the Greatest of Prophets sent to humankind. Personally trained and educated by the Prophet himself, she rose to prominence and garnered wider honour and respect in the early Muslim community. Despite being the daughter of the Last Prophet, her humbleness and down-to-earth etiquette became a paradigm for character traits for Muslim women throughout the ages. Her wisdom, perseverance, generosity, kindness, passion, modesty, and love for Allah and His Messenger made her a jewel of the Prophet’s household. Her entire life is a lesson for all Muslim girls and women to follow in her footsteps to lead a peaceful, happy, and successful life in the World and the Hereafter.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Islam, the religion of total submission to God, is the belief of more than one fifth of all human beings and is the second largest religion in the world. Despite its large number of followers, little was known about it in America until after the tragic event of September 11, 2001. Unfortunately, the media portrayed Islam negatively after September 11th and distorted its true nature. Hence, some people do not want to hear anything about Islam while many others began to ask many questions about it. An Insider's Guide to Islam is a practical guide that explains Islam as understood and practiced by Muslims of diverse background. To Muslims, Islam is a way of life and a religion of peace which brings tranquility and harmony to their lives. Islam is a rich culture and a unique tradition which must be understood on its own merits. The author brings insight into what Islam means, how it is practiced and its relationship with other religions. He also analyzes the concept of Jihad, the role of women in Islam and the values that Islam cherishes. The development of Islam in America and the roles that Muslims play in the United States are also elaborated upon in this volume.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of the book, Identity Conscience: Nationalism & Internationalism, lies in the significance of the message, Harmonization of Nationalism and Internationalism for the sake of Universalism, Humanism, Global Citizenship and Global Identity of International Community respecting the multiplicity of individuals' identity which is actually the integral part of the core theme of the book that attempts to propagate the considerations of global citizenship of international community with multidimensional aspects of universalism and the values of humanism. First section of the book discusses the identity of human beings, approaches to study the identity and the topics pertaining to the dimensions of identity, and seeks to study the Identity as a subject with universal, individual and pro-belonging approaches which the Author has categorized based on his understanding over the identity science and the approaches to study the same. Secondly, prior to studying the role of nationalism and patriotism in the development of some of the countries of Asia, Europe and Americas and after highlighting some aspects and attributes of nationalism in India and regional as well as national feelings among the Indians, the Author has put in the concept of nationalism with certain other views on the same and post that he highlights the issues and impacts of forceful elements of regionalism, ethnocentrism and identity related concerns in several geographies of the Globe: Russia, Japan, China, the USA, Israel and some of the European and Latin American countries. Well, developed countries would have, to a great extent, developed a unified society with certain universal codes of conduct for their Nation-States by developing one national identity, but most of the Asian and African countries are still considerably away from building a strong national identity for their respective Nation-States. Monroe Doctrine, Truman Doctrine and Trump's America First Policy which have left a significant impact on America's domestic and foreign policy as well as her considerations of Nationalism and Internationalism are some of the aspects that have been observed critically in this book. Third section of the book depicts five kinds of reactions/responses to different situations/occurrences, and outlines as to what kinds of responses/reactions are ideal & constructive and what are destructive in a Family, Society, Organization, or Nation; and how it impacts the Identity. Fourthly, the Author outlines the imperatives and considerations of internationalism, universalism and humanism in the era of globalization and interdependency through which the protection of Global Citizens can not only be ensured but also be propagated and nourished as a global culture and universal civilization of international community. Other topics discussed in this book are the apparent crisis of institutional trust over the Governments, States & her mechanisms, global politico-ethical crisis, Ethical Core Values for Nation-States, The Relevancy of Ethics in Social, Financial and Political Business, and the imperatives and considerations of Nation-States for International Community. Subsequently, the book raises certain perceptive aspects which advocate that the United Nations should be bestowed with even more authority as an Organization, and that the Organization is required to be considered as a Global Nation with international community as global citizens. And, last but not the least, the book has advanced to touch upon the topic of global sustainability of the development and universal sensitivity for the environment and climate change which is one of the mediums to connect the people of different identities of the globe and to bring them at one platform to establish their collective duties towards nature. The book concludes with a really didactic poem of the Author titled "My Poem on Universalism & Humanism" that actually attempts to sum up the book in a real sense.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1105, six years after the first crusaders from Europe conquered Jerusalem, a Damascene Muslim jurisprudent named ’Ali ibn Tahir al-Sulami (d. 1106) publicly dictated an extended call to the military jihad (holy war) against the European invaders. Entitled Kitab al-Jihad (The Book of the Jihad), al-Sulami’s work both summoned his Muslim brethren to the jihad and instructed them in the manner in which it ought to be conducted, covering topics as diverse as who should fight and be fought, treatment of prisoners and plunder, and the need for participants to fight their own inner sinfulness before turning their efforts against the enemy. Al-Sulami’s text is vital for a complete understanding of the Muslim reaction to the crusades, providing the reader with the first contemporary record of Muslim preaching against the crusaders. However, until recently only a small part of the text has been studied by modern scholars, as it has remained for the most part an unedited manuscript. In this book Niall Christie provides a complete edition and the first full English translation of the extant sections (parts 2, 8, 9 and 12) of the manuscript of al-Sulami’s work, making it fully available to modern readers for the first time. These are accompanied by an introductory study exploring the techniques that the author uses to motivate his audience, the precedents that influenced his work, and possible directions for future study of the text. In addition, an appendix provides translations of jihad sermons by Ibn Nubata al-Fariqi (d. 985), a preacher from Asia Minor whose rhetorical style was highly influential in the development of al-Sulami’s work.

Book excerpt: Now more than ever, altruistic approaches to leadership are needed in business, industry, government, and in the community to help foster and promote peace, moderation, and goodness for all humankind. In one of the first books ever written on the altruistic service aspects of Prophet Muhammads leadership, author Ismail Noor provides an easy-to-read, diligently researched, and time-tested approach that has been presented and shared with live audiences in conferences, training sessions, and workshops at all levels. Ismail Noors penetrative insight into Prophet Muhammads leadership thrust in the Arabian Peninsula is well-researched and well-tested. Having himself used his written material in conferences, seminars, and workshops throughout the region, his contribution to the development of leadership competency among executives and managers in the public, private, and institutional sectors has been admirable.
