When Mitya was two years old, he swallowed his grandmother’s sewing needle. For his family, it marks the beginning of the end, the promise of certain death. For Mitya, it is a small, metal treasure that guides him from within. As he grows, his life mirrors the uncertain future of his country, which is attempting to rebuild itself after the collapse of the Soviet Union, torn between its past and the promise of modern freedom. Mitya finds himself facing a different sort of ambiguity: is he a boy, as everyone keeps telling him, or is he not quite a boy, as he often feels? After suffering horrific abuse from his cousin Vovka who has returned broken from war, Mitya embarks on a journey across underground Moscow to find something better, a place to belong. His experiences are interlaced with a retelling of a foundational Russian fairytale, Koschei the Deathless, offering an element of fantasy to the brutal realities of Mitya’s everyday life. Told with deep empathy, humor, and a bit of surreality, Little Foxes Took Up Matches is a revelation about the life of one community in a country of turmoil and upheaval, glimpsed through the eyes of a precocious and empathetic child, whose heart and mind understand that there are often more than two choices. An arresting coming of age, an exploration of gender, a modern folktale, a comedy about family, Katya Kazbek breaks out as a new voice to watch.

Book excerpt: Have you ever felt like your "I do" in marriage has turned into "I don’t anymore?" Have you ever felt that the man you thought was your soulmate has turned into more of a roommate? If so, then Lovestruck will help you see your marriage from a fresh perspective and reignite the passion that was there in the beginning. While the extent of the church’s message has traditionally been, "If you’re not married, don’t do it," and "If you are married, don’t talk about it, " it’s time to see what God has to say sexual intimacy. With the Song of Solomon as a backdrop, bestselling author Sharon Jaynes will take you on a daring journey to discover how to recognize outside factors that cause hurt feelings and create healthy boundaries that protect your relationship; overcome feelings of guilt about your level of desire for physical intimacy by understanding God’s original intent; recognize the warning signs of growing indifference by taking steps to make marriage a priority; regain the passion of the early years by remembering and returning to what brought you together in the first place; and recalibrate the direction your marriage is headed by starting with the end in mind. When we see God's design for spiritual and physical oneness, we'll have the foundation for a love that lasts a lifetime.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1866, ‘Little Foxes’ is a form of self-help book by renowned author Harriet Beecher Stowe. Organised into seven different sections including ‘Irritability’, ‘Self-Will’ and ‘Intolerance’, a wealth of advice is given as to how to oppose and avoid negative and self-destructive habits, thereby attaining a happy and peaceful existence within the family home. An intriguing insight into 19th century attitudes towards self-help and personal growth. Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896) was an American author of novels, articles and memoirs, and was an ardent abolitionist. Stowe was born in Connecticut to a religious family. Her father was a Calvinist preacher and her mother died when she was just five years old. She received a traditional academic education – a rarity for girls at the time – and at the age of twenty-one she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. A major trading location, it was here that Stowe encountered people who had escaped slavery, and hearing their experiences would greatly influence her life and work. She married in 1850 and moved to Maine, where both she and her husband remained vocal critics of slavery, and actively supported the Underground Railroad. Her most famous novel ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’ was serialised and then published in 1852. It caught the attention of the American nation with its passionate opposition and emotional portrayal of the effects of slavery. She died in Connecticut in 1896 at the age of 85.

Book excerpt: Why Are Foxes on the Cover of this Premartial Guide? Because every marriage has "foxes" lurking inside it! We all have idols and selfish appetites-and, like the foxes in Solomon's vineyard, they can cause untold destruction and heartache. In fact, how seriously a couple takes their own foxes will influence whether their marriage blooms and glorifies God, or is a shallow and pale imitation of the real thing. In this workbook for both individuals and groups, biblical counselor John Henderson stimulates meaningful conversation and prayer between engaged couples. The book's interactive format provides couples with a foundation for understanding what marriage is really about, becoming a godly husband or wife, and understanding conflict and resolving it biblically. Sit down together, ask a married couple to come alongside you, and get ready to chase the foxes out of your relationship. Book jacket.

Approaching feelings with understanding instead of trying to change them actually helps them simmer down. Little Red Fox notices each of her feelings, what prompted them, then she gets to decide how to act on them. This creates a healthy pattern for readers to use in their own lives. In the end, we may not always have control over how we feel (and that's okay!), but we can notice feelings, figure out what prompted them, and then decide how to act on those feelings . . . and that's most empowering of all!"--Amazon.com
