Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How would you like to join me on an unbelievable ride? Let us take a ride on a mystical wooden kiddie roller coaster as we travel thru my dash (you know, that line that separates, the date you were born and the date that says you, died) to, re-live my experiences, when I went knocking on Heavens door, starting at the early age of five years old, having to survive my first automobile accident. At sixteen, I drowned but was miraculously saved. Four years later I was in Vietnam, then had two major automobile accidents one before I was there in the WTC on the 93 bombing, then another before I was there on 9/11. After ten months at Ground Zero, I ended up with nineteen health ailments, one being bladder cancer. This will probably have you feel like youve been pushed back into that seat youre in and have you look to see if youre safely secured, as we go about feeling the remainder of those climbs, drops, curves and hoops with me. While were still on this journey, I will tell you about some of these most amazing surprising coincidences that had occurred to me (ones that I could never imagine, happening) and all because of this sudden change in me, that came about, hours later on September 11, 2001. Why, and more than, anything why me?
Book Synopsis A Million Little Pieces of Feces by : Python Bonkers
Download or read book A Million Little Pieces of Feces written by Python Bonkers and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2006-02 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (Selected excerpts and outside reviews can be found by clicking on the blue Python Bonkers hyperlink.) This book may share an alphabetical lineage with the Frey book, but there is no melodramatic redemption here -- it is not a parody of that book but its own entity. As one of the characters from the book says, We're still involved in the commission of the acts that will require redemption -- and those stories are always so much more fun. Bonkers and his bizarre team embarks on a gonzo tear through the streets of Los Angeles and across the pop cultural landscape as well. In his satirical quest for truth in journalism, and life, he must navigate through the many odd tiers of social class, in both the Southern California culture and in his Machiavellian office life and its absurd red and blue political divisions. This is no heart-wrenching tale of excess, its destination is hilarity, so it presses the pedal to the metal and takes no prisoners.

The constant nodding, pretend concentration, useless rhetorical questions? These tricks make them seem like they know what they’re doing when in fact they have no clue. Book excerpt: This book is the documenting of all my life stories in the bathroom and anywhere related to bathroom behavior. I, like many humans, have many experiences and stories and have enjoyed sharing them in the book. The observations are from many years and many places I have had the opportunity to visit as I've traveled throughout the US and other countries. We don't plan the memorable events that happen in the bathroom, but they happen to all of us without exception. The difference is the people who can find the humor in the event and are willing to share.

Download or read book No Bullshit Therapy written by Jeff Young and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-12-05 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you have clients who do not want to be helped? Clients who don’t trust you, your profession, or your service? Clients who don’t want to change despite your best efforts? Then No Bullshit Therapy (NBT) is for you! Most simply, NBT is about being authentic. Many people are cajoled, pressured, or mandated to see therapists, counsellors, and other helpers. Hence, they are reluctant, suspicious, and resistant to being helped. This puts professionals in the difficult position of trying to help someone who does not want to be helped. To make things worse, there are few practice models designed to engage people who don’t want to be engaged. NBT creates a context for mutual honesty and directness in working relationships. Creating a context for mutual honesty and directness can be refreshingly effective, especially with people who are suspicious of counselling or distrustful of the counsellor. When combined with warmth and care, honesty and directness can enhance co-operation, connection, and trust, especially if the practitioner avoids jargon and acknowledges constraints to the work. NBT is ideal for working with people who: • Don’t like therapy or the idea of therapy (even if they’ve never had it) • Don’t trust warm fuzzy “do-gooders” or “psychologisers” • Are suspicious of services because they have experienced trauma and have had abusive institutional experiences or unsatisfactory treatment in the past • Don’t see themselves as a client, don’t agree with the referrer’s description of them or their problems, and appear to not want to change Practical and engaging, this book is an essential guide for therapists, counsellors, and other allied-health professionals who are looking for a more effective way to connect with reluctant clients and ensure they get the support they need. It may also help you create more robust relationships at work and at home.

Book Synopsis My Bloody Efforts by : Stephen Bridgman MBE
Download or read book My Bloody Efforts written by Stephen Bridgman MBE and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-09-17 with total page 677 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In May 2000 the British nuclear hunter-killer submarine HMS Tireless limped into Gibraltar using emergency propulsion and with her nuclear reactor shut down. Days earlier, while traversing the Straits of Sicily the crew had discovered a crack in one of the nuclear reactor pipes, requiring the immediate shutting down of the reactor to prevent a potential reactor accident, an operation never before conducted on a British submarine at sea. Th e previous six days had been a difficult time for the crew of the submarine. Initial indications of a nuclear reactor defect had quickly escalated into a full scale potential nuclear reactor accident at sea, requiring decisive action by the crew to make the reactor safe, to identify the defect and attempt to repair the reactor, and then to surface the submarine and to sail her safely back to the nearest safe harbor using emergency propulsion machinery designed for very limited use. The resulting lack of electrical power resulted in the crew having to sacrifice lighting, air-conditioning, bathing facilities and even hot food until their return to harbor, and to suffer in the excessively hot interior of the boat. Throughout, there remained the fear of exposure to deadly radiation and the uncertainty that the reactor might still be one step away from a major accident. For one man onboard, this episode formed the culmination of a 25 year naval engineering career almost fated for this moment. Charge Chief Stephen Bridgman, the senior nuclear propulsion technician, had needed all of his engineering knowledge and experience in the identification and eventual repair of the submarine reactor, subsequently being awarded an MBE together with a colleague for his services to naval engineering for his actions. This book provides an insight into a remarkable naval career starting as a 16 year old Stoker on the final proper British aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal in 1977, through the Falklands War, being selected for naval technician training and submarine service, submarine training, submarine patrols in the supposed post cold-war period, the Kosovo conflict, progression through the ranks, submarine refi t and refueling through to the nuclear reactor accident onboard HMS Tireless. While there are countless accounts of naval life during wartime, this book tells the unique story of life as a British naval rating in the modern era, starting from the lowest level at a time of decline for the Royal Navy in the late 1970s, and paralleling the major political and military events of the 1980s and 1990s.

Book Synopsis The University in Crumbs by : Robert Porter
Download or read book The University in Crumbs written by Robert Porter and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2023-05-31 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Occupying a space in-between conventional scholarship and imaginative storytelling, The University in Crumbs: A Register of Things Seen and Heard is an experimental work that dramatizes the everyday life of the academy. Consisting primarily of a series of five first-person reports, Robert Porter, Kerry-Ann Porter and Iain Mackenzie provide the reader with a number of stories that attempt to capture some of their everyday experiences of academic life in the UK, roughly between 2017 and 2022. Self-consciously written in a subjective and conversational register, and often in dialogical form, The University in Crumbs is an accessible series of interrelated narratives that allow us to develop a concrete sense of the grain, texture and feel for what it might be like to work in the academy at a specific point in time. These stories, first-person reports, dialogues, come alive, acquire their meaning, force and pragmatic effect by way of a rather unique circumlocutory form. There is a directedness to the everyday talk engaged in by Robert, Kerry-Ann and Iain that nonetheless, simultaneously, indirectly loops in and out of a kind of technical academic talk that provides the book its light and shade. University in Crumbs is an experimental work that implicitly and explicitly animates philosophy, social, cultural and political theory through first-person experiences and, in so doing, breathes new life into what can often otherwise remain rather conventional and technical academic language-games. More than that, this book dramatizes ideas and concepts in ways perhaps less burdened by the weight of canonical tradition, and encourages those readers with the talent to portray their social world differently to be more licentious and less bashful in putting such talents to work.
