This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The territory of preserver problems has grown continuously within linear analysis. This book presents a cross-section of the modern theory of preservers on infinite dimensional spaces (operator spaces and function spaces) through the author's corresponding results. Special emphasis is placed on preserver problems concerning some structures of Hilbert space operators which appear in quantum mechanics. In addition, local automorphisms and local isometries of operator algebras and function algebras are discussed in detail.

Book Synopsis Solving Algebraic Computational Problems in Geodesy and Geoinformatics by : Joseph L. Awange
Download or read book Solving Algebraic Computational Problems in Geodesy and Geoinformatics written by Joseph L. Awange and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-08-29 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While preparing and teaching ‘Introduction to Geodesy I and II’ to - dergraduate students at Stuttgart University, we noticed a gap which motivated the writing of the present book: Almost every topic that we taughtrequiredsomeskillsinalgebra,andinparticular,computeral- bra! From positioning to transformation problems inherent in geodesy and geoinformatics, knowledge of algebra and application of computer algebra software were required. In preparing this book therefore, we haveattemptedtoputtogetherbasicconceptsofabstractalgebra which underpin the techniques for solving algebraic problems. Algebraic c- putational algorithms useful for solving problems which require exact solutions to nonlinear systems of equations are presented and tested on various problems. Though the present book focuses mainly on the two ?elds, theconceptsand techniquespresented hereinarenonetheless- plicable to other ?elds where algebraic computational problems might be encountered. In Engineering for example, network densi?cation and robotics apply resection and intersection techniques which require - gebraic solutions. Solution of nonlinear systems of equations is an indispensable task in almost all geosciences such as geodesy, geoinformatics, geophysics (just to mention but a few) as well as robotics. These equations which require exact solutions underpin the operations of ranging, resection, intersection and other techniques that are normally used. Examples of problems that require exact solutions include; • three-dimensional resection problem for determining positions and orientation of sensors, e. g. , camera, theodolites, robots, scanners etc. , VIII Preface • coordinate transformation to match shapes and sizes of points in di?erent systems, • mapping from topography to reference ellipsoid and, • analytical determination of refraction angles in GPS meteorology.

Book Synopsis Numerical Solution of Initial-value Problems in Differential-algebraic Equations by : K. E. Brenan
Download or read book Numerical Solution of Initial-value Problems in Differential-algebraic Equations written by K. E. Brenan and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many physical problems are most naturally described by systems of differential and algebraic equations. This book describes some of the places where differential-algebraic equations (DAE's) occur. The basic mathematical theory for these equations is developed and numerical methods are presented and analyzed. Examples drawn from a variety of applications are used to motivate and illustrate the concepts and techniques. This classic edition, originally published in 1989, is the only general DAE book available. It not only develops guidelines for choosing different numerical methods, it is the first book to discuss DAE codes, including the popular DASSL code. An extensive discussion of backward differentiation formulas details why they have emerged as the most popular and best understood class of linear multistep methods for general DAE's. New to this edition is a chapter that brings the discussion of DAE software up to date. The objective of this monograph is to advance and consolidate the existing research results for the numerical solution of DAE's. The authors present results on the analysis of numerical methods, and also show how these results are relevant for the solution of problems from applications. They develop guidelines for problem formulation and effective use of the available mathematical software and provide extensive references for further study.
