Book Synopsis Algebraic Geometry by : Robin Hartshorne
Download or read book Algebraic Geometry written by Robin Hartshorne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An introduction to abstract algebraic geometry, with the only prerequisites being results from commutative algebra, which are stated as needed, and some elementary topology. More than 400 exercises distributed throughout the book offer specific examples as well as more specialised topics not treated in the main text, while three appendices present brief accounts of some areas of current research. This book can thus be used as textbook for an introductory course in algebraic geometry following a basic graduate course in algebra. Robin Hartshorne studied algebraic geometry with Oscar Zariski and David Mumford at Harvard, and with J.-P. Serre and A. Grothendieck in Paris. He is the author of "Residues and Duality", "Foundations of Projective Geometry", "Ample Subvarieties of Algebraic Varieties", and numerous research titles.
Book Synopsis Introduction to Algebraic Geometry by : Steven Dale Cutkosky
Download or read book Introduction to Algebraic Geometry written by Steven Dale Cutkosky and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2018-06-01 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a readable and accessible introductory course in algebraic geometry, with most of the fundamental classical results presented with complete proofs. An emphasis is placed on developing connections between geometric and algebraic aspects of the theory. Differences between the theory in characteristic and positive characteristic are emphasized. The basic tools of classical and modern algebraic geometry are introduced, including varieties, schemes, singularities, sheaves, sheaf cohomology, and intersection theory. Basic classical results on curves and surfaces are proved. More advanced topics such as ramification theory, Zariski's main theorem, and Bertini's theorems for general linear systems are presented, with proofs, in the final chapters. With more than 200 exercises, the book is an excellent resource for teaching and learning introductory algebraic geometry.
Book Synopsis Algebraic Geometry: Further study of schemes by : 健爾·上野
Download or read book Algebraic Geometry: Further study of schemes written by 健爾·上野 and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2003 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the third part of the textbook on algebraic geometry by Kenji Ueno (the first two parts were published by the AMS as Volumes 185 and 197 of this series). Here the author presents the theory of schemes and sheaves beyond introductory notions, with the goal of studying properties of schemes and coherent sheaves necessary for full development of modern algebraic geometry. The main topics discussed in the book include dimension theory, flat and proper morphisms, regular schemes, smooth morphisms, completion and Zariski's main theorem. The author also presents the theory of algebraic curves and their Jacobians and the relation between algebraic and analytic geometry, including Kodaira's Vanishing Theorem. The book contains numerous exercises and problems with solutions, which makes it (together with two previous parts) appropriate for a graduate course on algebraic geometry or for self-study.

Book Synopsis Basic Algebraic Geometry 2 by : Igor Rostislavovich Shafarevich
Download or read book Basic Algebraic Geometry 2 written by Igor Rostislavovich Shafarevich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1994 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second volume of Shafarevich's introductory book on algebraic geometry focuses on schemes, complex algebraic varieties and complex manifolds. As with Volume 1 the author has revised the text and added new material, e.g. a section on real algebraic curves. Although the material is more advanced than in Volume 1 the algebraic apparatus is kept to a minimum making the book accessible to non-specialists. It can be read independently of Volume 1 and is suitable for beginning graduate students in mathematics as well as in theoretical physics.
Book Synopsis Algebraic Geometry I: Schemes by : Ulrich Görtz
Download or read book Algebraic Geometry I: Schemes written by Ulrich Görtz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-07-27 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the reader to modern algebraic geometry. It presents Grothendieck's technically demanding language of schemes that is the basis of the most important developments in the last fifty years within this area. A systematic treatment and motivation of the theory is emphasized, using concrete examples to illustrate its usefulness. Several examples from the realm of Hilbert modular surfaces and of determinantal varieties are used methodically to discuss the covered techniques. Thus the reader experiences that the further development of the theory yields an ever better understanding of these fascinating objects. The text is complemented by many exercises that serve to check the comprehension of the text, treat further examples, or give an outlook on further results. The volume at hand is an introduction to schemes. To get startet, it requires only basic knowledge in abstract algebra and topology. Essential facts from commutative algebra are assembled in an appendix. It will be complemented by a second volume on the cohomology of schemes.

Book Synopsis Lectures on Algebraic Geometry II by : Günter Harder
Download or read book Lectures on Algebraic Geometry II written by Günter Harder and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-04-21 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second volume introduces the concept of shemes, reviews some commutative algebra and introduces projective schemes. The finiteness theorem for coherent sheaves is proved, here again the techniques of homological algebra and sheaf cohomology are needed. In the last two chapters, projective curves over an arbitrary ground field are discussed, the theory of Jacobians is developed, and the existence of the Picard scheme is proved. Finally, the author gives some outlook into further developments- for instance étale cohomology- and states some fundamental theorems.
Book Synopsis Positivity in Algebraic Geometry I by : R.K. Lazarsfeld
Download or read book Positivity in Algebraic Geometry I written by R.K. Lazarsfeld and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-08-24 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two volume work on Positivity in Algebraic Geometry contains a contemporary account of a body of work in complex algebraic geometry loosely centered around the theme of positivity. Topics in Volume I include ample line bundles and linear series on a projective variety, the classical theorems of Lefschetz and Bertini and their modern outgrowths, vanishing theorems, and local positivity. Volume II begins with a survey of positivity for vector bundles, and moves on to a systematic development of the theory of multiplier ideals and their applications. A good deal of this material has not previously appeared in book form, and substantial parts are worked out here in detail for the first time. At least a third of the book is devoted to concrete examples, applications, and pointers to further developments. Volume I is more elementary than Volume II, and, for the most part, it can be read without access to Volume II.
Book Synopsis Real Algebraic Geometry by : Vladimir I. Arnold
Download or read book Real Algebraic Geometry written by Vladimir I. Arnold and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with one of the most fundamental questions of mathematics: the relationship between algebraic formulas and geometric images. At one of the first international mathematical congresses (in Paris in 1900), Hilbert stated a special case of this question in the form of his 16th problem (from his list of 23 problems left over from the nineteenth century as a legacy for the twentieth century). In spite of the simplicity and importance of this problem (including its numerous applications), it remains unsolved to this day (although, as you will now see, many remarkable results have been discovered).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book succeeds brilliantly by concentrating on a number of core topics...and by treating them in a hugely rich and varied way. The author ensures that the reader will learn a large amount of classical material and perhaps more importantly, will also learn that there is no one approach to the subject. The essence lies in the range and interplay of possible approaches. The author is to be congratulated on a work of deep and enthusiastic scholarship." --MATHEMATICAL REVIEWS
Book Synopsis Undergraduate Algebraic Geometry by : Miles Reid
Download or read book Undergraduate Algebraic Geometry written by Miles Reid and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1988-12-15 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Algebraic geometry is, essentially, the study of the solution of equations and occupies a central position in pure mathematics. This short and readable introduction to algebraic geometry will be ideal for all undergraduate mathematicians coming to the subject for the first time. With the minimum of prerequisites, Dr Reid introduces the reader to the basic concepts of algebraic geometry including: plane conics, cubics and the group law, affine and projective varieties, and non-singularity and dimension. He is at pains to stress the connections the subject has with commutative algebra as well as its relation to topology, differential geometry, and number theory. The book arises from an undergraduate course given at the University of Warwick and contains numerous examples and exercises illustrating the theory.
Book Synopsis Algebraic Geometry and Arithmetic Curves by : Qing Liu
Download or read book Algebraic Geometry and Arithmetic Curves written by Qing Liu and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2006-06-29 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a general introduction to the theory of schemes, followed by applications to arithmetic surfaces and to the theory of reduction of algebraic curves. The first part introduces basic objects such as schemes, morphisms, base change, local properties (normality, regularity, Zariski's Main Theorem). This is followed by the more global aspect: coherent sheaves and a finiteness theorem for their cohomology groups. Then follows a chapter on sheaves of differentials, dualizing sheaves, and Grothendieck's duality theory. The first part ends with the theorem of Riemann-Roch and its application to the study of smooth projective curves over a field. Singular curves are treated through a detailed study of the Picard group. The second part starts with blowing-ups and desingularisation (embedded or not) of fibered surfaces over a Dedekind ring that leads on to intersection theory on arithmetic surfaces. Castelnuovo's criterion is proved and also the existence of the minimal regular model. This leads to the study of reduction of algebraic curves. The case of elliptic curves is studied in detail. The book concludes with the funadmental theorem of stable reduction of Deligne-Mumford. The book is essentially self-contained, including the necessary material on commutative algebra. The prerequisites are therefore few, and the book should suit a graduate student. It contains many examples and nearly 600 exercises.
Book Synopsis Algebraic Geometry and Commutative Algebra by : Siegfried Bosch
Download or read book Algebraic Geometry and Commutative Algebra written by Siegfried Bosch and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-04-22 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Algebraic Geometry is a fascinating branch of Mathematics that combines methods from both Algebra and Geometry. It transcends the limited scope of pure Algebra by means of geometric construction principles. Putting forward this idea, Grothendieck revolutionized Algebraic Geometry in the late 1950s by inventing schemes. Schemes now also play an important role in Algebraic Number Theory, a field that used to be far away from Geometry. The new point of view paved the way for spectacular progress, such as the proof of Fermat's Last Theorem by Wiles and Taylor. This book explains the scheme-theoretic approach to Algebraic Geometry for non-experts, while more advanced readers can use it to broaden their view on the subject. A separate part presents the necessary prerequisites from Commutative Algebra, thereby providing an accessible and self-contained introduction to advanced Algebraic Geometry. Every chapter of the book is preceded by a motivating introduction with an informal discussion of its contents and background. Typical examples, and an abundance of exercises illustrate each section. Therefore the book is an excellent companion for self-studying or for complementing skills that have already been acquired. It can just as well serve as a convenient source for (reading) course material and, in any case, as supplementary literature. The present edition is a critical revision of the earlier text.
