Book excerpt: The Last Time Traveler An individual in a world where time travel was banned, embarks on a forbidden journey to change history. Summary: In the movie "The Last Time Traveler," there is a hero named Alex who finds a long-lost time machine in a hidden room. Aside from the fact that time travel is against the law in Alex's society, she wants to change history for the better. From the time of the dinosaurs to the Renaissance and the middle of the Industrial Revolution, this is the start of an amazing journey that will last for hundreds of years. Alex faces new risks and difficulties, as well as chances to grow, with each time jump. As Alex travels, he meets a wide range of historical figures and normal people who teach him interesting things. During the dinosaur age, Alex learns how important it is to be careful and how powerful nature is. We learned how to be brave and stand up for what's right from the scary dragons and brave knights of the Middle Ages. In the Renaissance, a time of invention and innovation, Alex learns about the limitless potential of people's minds. During the Industrial Revolution, growth and compassion are shown to be very important. And yet, Alex's trips don't come without costs. The Time Guardians are after Alex because they are in charge of making sure people don't move through time. They are telling kids that messing with time can have bad results. Alex gets away from capture with the help of friends he has made throughout history. He learns how important it is to work together and be kind to each other. Alex could have lived in the present or changed history, but he decides to destroy the time machine instead and take what he has learned. This movement shows that you are okay with living in the present and not trying to change the past. The story "The Last Time Traveler" does a great job of combining themes of bravery, resourcefulness, peace, understanding, acceptance, joy, and how important it is to live in the present. We can't change the past, but we can change the future by the choices we make today, as Alex's journey through time shows. Making the most of every chance and living with kindness, courage, and joy are what the story tells us. Finally, Alex understands that the best way to change the world is to live by these beliefs every day and show that the moment is always the most important time. Chapter 1: Device Not Allowed Nearly no one knew about this small, secret room that was in a cute little town with winding streets and clues. It was hidden under an old library that was full of books with magical and exciting stories inside. Alex, a young and curious traveler, found this cave system while looking for a kitten that was running away. Few lights were on in the room. A small amount of light came in through a window and cast shadows on something strange. A thick layer of dust and dirt covered a strange, big machine. It looked old and abandoned and had a big red switch, gears, and buttons. On the side of the device, the words "Time Machine" could be seen, though they were faint. Alex had never thought she would find a time machine in real life, but she had seen movies and read books about them. In Alex's world, going back in time was illegal and thought to be very dangerous. Scholars and the government both said that time travel could be very bad because it could change important events in history or make people doubt what is happening now. Because of these worries, time machines were made illegal, and if you use one, you could get into a lot of trouble. Even though there were risks, Alex felt amazed and excited. Alex was excited as he looked at the time machine, like the main character in an adventure story who is about to start an amazing journey. It was exciting to think about going back in time to see dinosaurs, soldiers, or maybe the future. Alex thought about all the good things that might happen if he changed the past. There's a chance they can stop tragedies or help people who need it. There was a chance to make the world a better place. Alex chose to take a chance, even though he was scared and excited at the same time. There was a chance to do something really cool. Before going up to the machine, Alex made sure no one else was around. He cleaned off the control panel and tried to figure out how it worked. There were buttons and switches that said things like "Past," "Future," and specific years and times. After some thought, Alex took a deep breath, pressed the "Past" button, called a date, and pulled the huge red lever. "This is it. I'm going to be a time traveler and change history for the better," he said. The machine buzzed, the lights flashed, and the wheels turned. There was a bright light and a whoosh of air, and Alex was outside the small, secret space. The trip through time had begun. Alex was about to start an amazing journey that would be full of risks, new experiences, and lessons about how important it is to be brave, have friends, and live in the present moment. Even though it is against the law in her world, Alex will go on an epic journey through the ages because she is curious and wants to make things better. Chapter 2: The First Step The time machine made a loud whoosh sound like a huge breeze when Alex pressed the big red button on it. In the blink of an eye, everything around Alex changed in a big way. The old library on top and the dusty room below were gone. At the other end of the spectrum, Alex found them in a huge open space with tall trees and lush, green plants that went on forever. Alex had never heard anything like this before. It was hot and crowded outside. There were dinosaurs around millions of years ago, long before anyone opened a book in that old library. To begin with, Alex was amazed and shocked. The land was filled with huge dinosaurs. There were ones with long necks that ate trees, ones with spikes that ate bushes, and even a smaller, faster group that ran through the bushes. These animals were a lot bigger and brighter than Alex had thought. Things looked like they were taken straight from a storybook, but they were all real and living. But Alex quickly learned that life in the time of the dinosaurs was not only an amazing adventure, but also very dangerous. These huge monsters found Alex interesting, but they didn't know that he was a visitor from the future and not a part of their society. They would have to be careful, because some of the bigger dinosaurs might think Alex is food. Alex got a chill down his spine as the loud roars kept going back and forth through the air. The sounds Alex heard might have been made by bigger dinosaurs looking for food. As Alex dug deeper to try to see more while staying covered, they came across a scene that showed how dangerous things were at the time. A big dinosaur with dangerous teeth and claws was after one of the smaller, faster ones. Alex saw a hunt happen right in front of her. Alex understood that every moment during this time was spent trying to stay alive, no matter how small. Alex was used to living in safe neighborhoods and warm homes, but this was a whole new world. Alex found out a lot on his first trip through time. Not only was it cool to see dinosaurs in real life, but it was also important to know how the Earth changed over time. Alex learned that there were risks and problems in every time period, and that you had to be brave and smart to get through them. Alex knew it was time to go back to the time machine, even though it was cool to see these amazing creatures up close. Alex took one last look at the dinosaurs and then pressed the "Return" button. He was ready to learn about how different and rich life has become on Earth over time and to share memories of an amazing trip.

Book excerpt: Only a week after a fierce battle in the abandoned scrapyard against the wicked horde of large insect-bots known as The Others, culminating in their destruction when the huge Mars Biosphere spaceship blasted its way out of the scrapyard, Alex Faraway waits impatiently for his long-missing father's promised return from that planet. But Dart, Alex's large, robotic Guardian Dragonfly, is unsure if the sinister creatures from his own past are gone for good. The robot flies regular patrols over the 100 acre scrapyard until one morning he abruptly disappears. Alex goes in search of his adventurous friend, unaware that the plot to invade Mars and destroy the last remaining Martians before they awaken from their hibernation Time Tombs is far from finished. The battle from the previous week has only added weight to the might of The Others and has triggered the arrival in the scrapyard of an ever more powerful robot - one with brutish motivation to complete the creation of a deadly machine from ten thousand years ago. And now, not only is Mars in their sites, but Earth is as well. Something new, powerful, and frightening is also happening to Alex Faraway with each passing day and each time he uses the strange Martian-made device called a Luss. His nightly dreams of an ancient people long forgotten are growing more physical in nature as the Glass Tunnels blur the immutable barrier between past and present, dreams and reality. The Ghosts and the Nethlins are coming. And all the while, the unknown rogue world, the shadowy Planet X, draws ever nearer to its ten-thousand-year close-encounter with Mars. What mysteries from the distant past does that strange glittering world hold?

Book excerpt: Life after his deployment with Army Special Forces was rough for Alex. His ex-wife thought he needed to stop disappointing their daughter, and she was right. He would try harder. With six hours before his little girl's fourth birthday party, he observed that the wall he'd been obsessing over in his basement was too short. Plenty of time to tear out a panel and look behind it. He found a brick wall. Behind that was another just like the first, and he still had time. When the second wall came down, Alex stood and stared at the shining doorway. Next to it, held up by a knife, was a note with a warning which he didn't heed. He is transported to a future unlike anything we've imagined, and Alex's fight to get back home becomes an epic struggle.

Book excerpt: **The explosive conclusion to the epic Riven Worlds series** Humanity was granted their time to prepare. Now that it has come to an end, all Miriam Solovy wants is one more day. The Rasu civil war engineered by Alex Solovy and Nika Kirumase has provided Concord the time it desperately needed. Every weapon, every technology, every tactic will be brought to bear in a bid to defend thousands of worlds and trillions of people from annihilation. The enemy that emerges from the civil war victorious is like nothing Concord has ever faced. A boundless legion of Rasu—now interlinked and of one collective mind due to their integration of kyoseil—prepares to sweep across Concord space in a devastating tidal wave. But there might be a way to stop them. It will mean two individuals must take upon themselves the burden of committing genocide, so the innocent beings they protect need never know how such an act comes with a price. “There has never been a timeline like this one before.” A war has been waged for endless aeons. Our greatest champions fight it again and again across millions of years, in a tireless endeavor to save not merely innumerable lives but existence itself. With Mesme’s secret revealed, the enormity of the stakes is clear to all, and humanity and its allies are united as they brace for the return of the Rasu. But the enemy has a secret, too—one that may ensure Concord’s destruction, as it has countless times before. * In Amaranthe, where exotic alien life, AIs, wormholes, indestructible starships and the promise of immortality rule the day, no feat seems out of reach for humanity. But when the worlds of Aurora Rhapsody and Asterion Noir collide and the Rasu horde descends upon them both, more will be asked of heroes past and future. More will be given and more taken, and when the dust settles the very fabric of Amaranthe will be altered forever. *** AMARANTHE UNIVERSE: --------------------------------------- ~ AURORA RHAPSODY ~ (should be read in order) AURORA RISING TRILOGY #1: STARSHINE (Aurora Rising Book One) #2: VERTIGO (Aurora Rising Book Two) #3: TRANSCENDENCE (Aurora Rising Book Three) AURORA RENEGADES TRILOGY #4: SIDESPACE (Aurora Renegades Book One) #5: DISSONANCE (Aurora Renegades Book Two) #6: ABYSM (Aurora Renegades Book Three) AURORA RESONANT TRILOGY #7: RELATIVITY (Aurora Resonant Book One) #8: RUBICON (Aurora Resonant Book Two) #9: REQUIEM (Aurora Resonant Book Three) #10: SHORT STORIES OF AURORA RHAPSODY (can be read at any time) ~ ASTERION NOIR TRILOGY ~ (a new entry point for the series - can be read before Aurora Rhapsody) #11: EXIN EX MACHINA (Asterion Noir Book 1) #12: OF A DARKER VOID (Asterion Noir Book 2) #13: THE STARS LIKE GODS (Asterion Noir Book 3) ~ RIVEN WORLDS ~ (should be read after Aurora Rhapsody and Asterion Noir) #14: CONTINUUM (Riven Worlds Book One) #15: INVERSION (Riven Worlds Book Two) #16: ECHO RIFT (Riven Worlds Book Three) #17: ALL OUR TOMORROWS (Riven Worlds Book Four) #18: CHAOTICA (Riven Worlds Book Five) #19: DUALITY (Riven Worlds Book Six) ~ COSMIC SHORES ~ (a new entry point for the series - each book can be read at any time and without reading any of the other books) #20: MEDUSA FALLING (A Cosmic Shores Novel) #21: THE THIEF (A Cosmic Shores Novel)

Book excerpt: A majestic account of the most fascinating phenomena in our universe—and the science behind them. In this vibrant, eye-opening tour of milestones in the history of our universe, Chris Impey guides us through space and time, leading us from the familiar sights of the night sky to the dazzlingly strange aftermath of the Big Bang. What if we could look into space and see not only our place in the universe but also how we came to be here? As it happens, we can. Because it takes time for light to travel, we see more and more distant regions of the universe as they were in the successively greater past. Impey uses this concept—"look-back time"—to take us on an intergalactic tour that is simultaneously out in space and back in time. Performing a type of cosmic archaeology, Impey brilliantly describes the astronomical clues that scientists have used to solve fascinating mysteries about the origins and development of our universe. The milestones on this journey range from the nearby to the remote: we travel from the Moon, Jupiter, and the black hole at the heart of our galaxy all the way to the first star, the first ray of light, and even the strange, roiling conditions of the infant universe, an intense and volatile environment in which matter was created from pure energy. Impey gives us breathtaking visual descriptions and also explains what each landmark can reveal about the universe and its history. His lucid, wonderfully engaging scientific discussions bring us to the brink of modern cosmology and physics, illuminating such mind-bending concepts as invisible dimensions, timelessness, and multiple universes. A dynamic and unforgettable portrait of the cosmos, How It Began will reward its readers with a deeper understanding of the universe we inhabit as well as a renewed sense of wonder at its beauty and mystery.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this wide-ranging survey of ancient Greek narrative from archaic epic to classical prose, Alex Purves shows how stories unfold in space as well as in time. She traces a shift in authorial perspective, from a godlike overview to the more focused outlook of human beings caught up in a developing plot, inspired by advances in cartography, travel, and geometry. Her analysis of the temporal and spatial dimensions of ancient narrative leads to new interpretations of important texts by Homer, Herodotus, and Xenophon, among others, showing previously unnoticed connections between epic and prose. Drawing on the methods of classical philology, narrative theory, and cultural geography, Purves recovers a poetics of spatial representation that lies at the core of the Greeks' conception of their plots.
