Download or read book The DC-10 Case written by John Fielder and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1992-07-14 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed as a textbook for courses in ethics, this book provides the material needed to understand the accidents in which more that 700 people were killed — accidents that many believe were the result of unethical actions and inactions by individuals, organizations, and government agencies. An introduction to ethical analysis and discussions of the ethical responsibilities involved are also provided. The case study offers material for a sustained inquiry into every level of ethical responsibility reflecting the rich ethical complexity of actual events. The DC-10 Case presents these issues through a collection of original and published articles, excerpts from official accident reports, congressional hearings, and other writing on the DC-10. The authors allow the readers to examine the ethical issues of airline safety as they actually occur, taking account of the circumstances in which they arise.

Book Synopsis Impact and Explosion by : M. Y. H. Bangash
Download or read book Impact and Explosion written by M. Y. H. Bangash and published by Blackwell. This book was released on 1993-07-15 with total page 896 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Impact and Explosion: Structural Analysis and Design presents a comprehensive study of the structural dynamics of impact and explosion by providing a survey of types of aircraft, missiles, bombs, and detonators. Impact dynamics, including empirical models developed for different materials, water surfaces, and soil/rock mediums, is discussed. Other topics include load time history; explosion dynamics related to material damage capabilities; dynamic finite elements with provisions for impact and explosions; a discussion of solution procedures, acceleration, and convergence criteria; methods for designing structures resistant to impact and explosions; and how damage results due to impact or explosions. Case histories, comparative studies, numerous examples, appendices, and extensive references reinforce information presented in this important book for engineers and researchers working in government and private industry laboratories concerned with blast or impact loading effects on structures. Small firms that deal with impact loading (e.g., automobile collisions) will also find this book valuable.

Starting with the principles of biophilic design, and the principles and processes in practice, the book then showcases a variety of interior spaces – residential, retail, workplace, hospitality, education, healthcare and manufacturing. The final chapter looks ‘outside the walls’, giving a case study at the campus and city scale. With practical guidance and real-world solutions that can be directly-applied in day-to-day practice, this is a must-have for designers interested in applying biophilic principles.
