Therefore, regulation in the marketing of agricultural produce has widely been adopted in India. But, without a good transport network, the regulated markets have no meaning because only transportation can provide access to and from the markets for the marketable goods. Furthermore, there are many facets of marketing and transportation. It is in this backdrop a study having an integrated approach to cover all the major dimensions of both the factors is required for overall assessment and planning. In present study an effort has been made to make an analysis of various relevant factors and aspects in integrated manner and find out ameliorative measures in order to increase the efficiency of various regulated markets mainly by improving transport network. The book tries to analyse the spatio-temporal features of regulated markets/marketing and transport network in the canal irrigated region of north-western Rajasthan. It also attempts to have a view of the functioning of regulated markets on the basis of an empirical study to evaluate the marketing efficiency and performance of various markets. An effort has also been made to identify trade areas of various regulated markets of the region and to determine hierarchy of those markets. And, finally, it proposes certain methods on the basis of which future projections can be made by setting up of yardsticks to achieve realistic targets."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of social capital allows scholars to assess the quality of relationships among people within a particular community and show how that quality affects the ability to achieve shared goals. With evidence collected from sixty-nine villages in India, Krishna investigates what social capital is, how it operates in practice, and what results it can be expected to produce. Does social capital provide a viable means for advancing economic development, promoting ethnic peace, and strengthening democratic governance? The world is richer than ever before, but more than a fifth of its people are poor and miserable. Civil wars and ethnic strife continue to mar prospects for peace. Democracy is in place in most countries, but large numbers of citizens do not benefit from it. How can development, peace and democracy become more fruitful for the ordinary citizen? This book shows how social capital is a crucial dimension of any solution to these problems.

Book Synopsis Agricultural Nitrogen Use and Its Environmental Implications by : Y. P. Abrol
Download or read book Agricultural Nitrogen Use and Its Environmental Implications written by Y. P. Abrol and published by I. K. International Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 2007 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nitrogen fertilizers are the inescapable necessity to enhance agricultural production and to sustain food security. However, their inefficient use accrues from inherent limitations of the crop plants as well as the manner in which N fertilizers are formulated, applied and managed. Excessive accumulation of N in the environment leads to soil acidification, pollution of groundwater and eutrophication of surface water, posing a public health problem as well as ecosystem imbalance. Moreover, the ozone layer depletion and greenhouse effects of NOx gases have global implications. Agricultural Nitrogen Use: Environmental Implications provides a comprehensive, interdisciplinary description of problems related to the efficient use of nitrogen in agriculture, in the overall context of the nitrogen cycle, its environmental and human health implications, as well as various approaches to improve N use efficiency. The book is presented in six sections: N Use, Flows and Cycling in Agricultural Systems; N Use Efficiency in Crop Ecosystems; Management Options and Strategies for Enhancing N Use Efficiency; Plant Physiological and Molecular Aspects of Enhancing N Use Efficiency; Role of Legumes and Biofertilizers in Agricultural N Economy; and Environmental and Human Health Implications.
