Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This AGARDograph is the 14th of the AGARD Flight Test Instrumentation Series and discusses the analysis of random data. The availability of powerful computing facilities, both on-line and off-line, for processing experimental data means that the flight test engineer has great flexibility in choosing the dividing line between 'hard wired' and 'soft' signal conditioning equipment. Further, the techniques described in this Volume are being used increasingly to extract meaningful information in situations where more conventional test and analysis techniques are inappropriate. This Volume is not intended to be a reference document for the specialist analyst who is required to generate the software for analyzing random data. Rather it is intended to introduce the non-specialist both to the possibilities and to the fundamental limitations of those techniques which are most frequently encountered. This AGARDograph has been sponsored by the Flight Mechanics Panel of AGARD. (Author).
Book Synopsis AGARD Flight Test Techniques Series. Volume 14. Introduction to Flight Test Engineering (Introduction a la Technique D'essais en Vol). by :
Download or read book AGARD Flight Test Techniques Series. Volume 14. Introduction to Flight Test Engineering (Introduction a la Technique D'essais en Vol). written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first two Sections are the Introduction and Historical Perspective. They provide some insight into the question of why flight test and give a short history of flight test engineering. Sections 3 through 10 deal with the preparation for flight testing. They provide guidance on the preliminary factors that must be considered. such as the technical, commercial, and political background to the tests, and any relevant existing data or considerations (Section 3); the composition of the test team (Section 4), the logistic support requirements (Section 5); the instrumentation and data processing requirements (Sections 6 and 7); the overall flight test plan and the associated preliminary ground tests (Sections 8 and 9); and last, but by no means least, Section 10 discusses safety aspects. Sections 11 through 27 describe the various types of flight tests that are usually conducted during the development and certification of a new or modified aircraft type. Each Section offers a brief introduction to the topic under consideration, and the nature and the objectives of the tests to be made. It lists the test instrumentation (and, where appropriate, other test equipment and facilities) required, describes the test maneuvers to be executed, and indicates the way in which the test data is selected, analyzed, and presented. Section 28 'Post-flight Operations' discusses the various activities that should take place between test flights. Items that are covered include who to debrief, what type of reports to send where, types of data analysis required for the next flight, review of test data to make a comparison to predicted data, some courses of action if there is not good agreement, and comments on selecting the next test flight. Section 29 'Post Test Operations' covers the activities that must take place upon completion of the test program.

Book Synopsis Evaluation of Effects of High-altitude Turbulence Encounters on the XB-70 Airplane by : Ronald J. Wilson
Download or read book Evaluation of Effects of High-altitude Turbulence Encounters on the XB-70 Airplane written by Ronald J. Wilson and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A turbulence response investigation was conducted with the XB-70 airplane. No special turbulence penetration techniques, speeds, or other restrictions were specified for the investigation, nor were any flights made solely to obtain turbulence data. During 79 flights, turbulence was encountered, and recorded on a VGH recorder, 6.2 percent of the total flight distance at supersonic speeds above an altitude of 12,192 meters (40,000 feet). Geographical locations are given for selected turbulence encounters. For 22 flights the airplane was instrumented to measure true gust velocities and the structural acceleration response to turbulence. The turbulence intensities measured were very low in comparison with those measured at high altitudes in other investigations. Acceleration response spectra, frequency response transfer functions, and coherence functions were computed from three turbulence encounters at Mach numbers of 0.88, 1. 59, and 2.35. Results are compared with calculated studies. Frequencies from the vertical and lateral structural modes, dominant in the airplane acceleration responses, were compared with the natural frequencies of the human body in the vertical and lateral directions.

Download or read book AGARD Flight Test Instrumentation Series. Volume 12. Aircraft Flight Test Data Processing. A Review of the State of the Art written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume describes the application of data processing systems to produce data in support of flight testing. The generalized techniques are appropriate to large test centers which support multiple testing programs simultaneously. The concepts, however, are as equally valid for a single test program using a dedicated data processing system. Starting from a discussion of data sources, the text proceeds to a review of the considerations required prior to data processing. A simplified discussion of two major components of data processing - hardware and software - follows. The volume then looks at the third major component of data processing - the people to make it work. The data processing in support of flight testing is described according to processing functions. An attempt is then made to identify potential problem areas. (Author).
