This book was released on 2019-11-23 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Africa is the ideal continent for those seeking the excitement of visiting places considered to be exotic, full of ancient monuments and primitive people. It is also described in travel related books and media as a continent of fascinating cultures, beautiful scenery, extraordinary animals and the best safari and wild game hunting in the world. Nothing short of a tourist paradise. For those with a tourist based interest in Africa, information and data about the African continent are easily accessible on travel websites, books and publications. But there’s a lot more to Africa. To millions of people, Africa represents a continent to be proud of, to call the motherland and to regard as their ancestral home. These are people of African descent from around the globe who relate to Africa in the context of their ancestral connection to the oldest continent on earth and what it means to them. For such people, questions that come to mind include which country to travel to when they decide to visit or repatriate to Africa, are they welcome, how would they cope with the change in cultures, general lifestyles, traditions and social mores they know nothing about. Lately, for those repatriating to live in Africa on a permanent basis, it becomes even more complicated and brings on the absolute necessity of making adequate preparations. This is the main reason for the publication of this book. Our goal is to provide readers with real insight, valuable information and data on current trends in the new Africa with the aim of making it a lot easier for them to have a better understanding of Africa and Africans, regardless of how long they will be in Africa or the reason for going there.

Book excerpt: Real Family is a fictional story with many complex issues interlocked throughout the journey. The foundation of the story deals with relationships. It may be father to son, sister to brother, teacher to student, friends to family, friends to acquaintances, lovers to partners and rivals, colleagues to boss It also could be relationships lost, missed, or by chance. Everyone needs someone to rely on for unconditional love and support. People may learn the hard way that those people are our Real Family. Stop and reflect on the relationships in your life and who has been there for you regardless of time. It is a curious thing to see how people relate to one another and the circumstances that if a bit different may have a different outcome. But life does not allow us to change a decision made. We may be able to continually affect the circumstance but it can never be undone. Lessons in life are what define who we are as a person. It is never the soul individual who is responsible for who they are, people that we don't control may affect who we become.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been nearly ten years since Africa is Open for Business was first published and Victor Kgomoeswana showcased the continent as a place of opportunity and fertile ground for business. But, if recent headlines are anything to go by, then the current outlook seems dim. As a result of corruption, the deepening infrastructure backlog, including resistance to 4IR developments, and the current global pandemic, it seems the continent is fast running out of time. However, when asked if Africa is still open for business, Kgomoeswana confidently says, ‘It depends on your perspective.’ Africa Bounces Back draws on case studies that look at the continent’s response to COVID-19 and where it might leave us, how the shift from globalisation to more nationalist politics could impact the region amidst growing global terror and the tipping point of the African Continental Free Trade Area implementations. Kgomoeswana also revisits previous case studies, including Ethiopian Airlines, China’s ongoing involvement in Africa and the ‘new normal’ innovations that have caused much-needed disruptions in their sectors. Africa Bounces Back is a reminder that even in the mist of crisis, a resilient spirit, decisive action and the correct perspective can lead to progress and, ultimately, success.

Book excerpt: African Americans and others in the African diaspora have increasingly “come home” to Africa to visit the sites at which their ancestors were enslaved and shipped. In this nuanced analysis of homecoming, Katharina Schramm analyzes how a shared rhetoric of the (Pan-)African family is produced among African hosts and Diasporan returnees and at the same time contested in practice. She examines the varying interpretations and appropriations of significant sites (e.g. the slave forts), events (e.g. Emancipation Day) and discourses (e.g. repatriation) in Ghana to highlight these dynamics. From this, she develops her notions of diaspora, home, homecoming, memory and identity that reflect the complexity and multiple reverberations of these cultural encounters beyond the sphere of roots tourism.

Book excerpt: The title of this book, "Go back to Africa?" is a statement offensive to African Americans. African Americans feel offended because despite all they have endured and done for the United States in terms of slave labor, defending the United States in two world wars and civil war, protecting whites against the indigenous, there are still Americans who feel that they do not belong in the United States. Despite the U.S. Government's acceptance of African Americans through the constitution, the 13th and 14th amendments, the emancipation proclamation, and other documents, African Americans feel discriminated against. This feeling began from 1790 to 1800 when Whites felt that African Americans should be relocated to Africa due to their increased population. The American Colonization Society was formed in 1816 and relocated African Americans to Liberia. Those who relocated to Africa encountered similar struggles with the indigenous as the Europeans when they settled in the Americas. The Americo-Liberians, as they are called, established a similar government as the United States. In 1980 a Master Sergeant, Samuel Doe staged a blooded coup d'état against the Americo-Liberian government. Doe caused President Tolbert's assassination and ordered the execution of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, President Pro Tempore of the Senate, and the Chief Justice among others. On January 6th, some Americans staged an insurrection, which many classified as a coup d'état. The author argues that the insurrection was not a coup and calls on his readers to compare Liberia's 1980 coup to the January 6th insurrection. In 1990, Liberia encountered a 14-year civil war similar to the American Civil war of 1861. The author admonishes Americans about the consequences and implications of coup d'états and civil wars and asks Americans to avoid either.

Book excerpt: In Out of Africa, author Isak Dinesen takes a wistful and nostalgic look back on her years living in Africa on a Kenyan coffee plantation. Recalling the lives of friends and neighbours—both African and European—Dinesen provides a first-hand perspective of colonial Africa. Through her obvious love of both the landscape and her time in Africa, Dinesen’s meditative writing style deeply reflects the themes of loss as her plantation fails and she returns to Europe. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From one of Africa’s most influential and eloquent essayists, a posthumous collection that highlights his biting satire and subversive wisdom on topics from travel to cultural identity to sexuality “A fierce literary talent . . . [Wainaina] shines a light on his continent without cliché.”—The Guardian “Africa is the only continent you can love—take advantage of this. . . . Africa is to be pitied, worshipped, or dominated. Whichever angle you take, be sure to leave the strong impression that without your intervention and your important book, Africa is doomed.” Binyavanga Wainaina was a pioneering voice in African literature, an award-winning memoirist and essayist remembered as one of the greatest chroniclers of contemporary African life. This groundbreaking collection brings together, for the first time, Wainaina’s pioneering writing on the African continent, including many of his most critically acclaimed pieces, such as the viral satirical sensation “How to Write About Africa.” Working fearlessly across a range of topics—from politics to international aid, cultural heritage, and redefined sexuality—he describes the modern world with sensual, emotional, and psychological detail, giving us a full-color view of his home country and continent. These works present the portrait of a giant in African literature who left a tremendous legacy.
