Book Synopsis Software Engineering by : Julius Tou
Download or read book Software Engineering written by Julius Tou and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Software Engineering, Volume I is a compilation of the proceedings of the Third Symposium on Computer and Information Sciences held in Miami Beach, Florida, on December 18-20, 1969. The papers explore developments in software engineering and cover topics ranging from computer organization to systems programming and programming languages. This volume is comprised of 15 chapters and begins with an overview of the emergence of software engineering as a profession, followed by a discussion on computer systems organization. A virtual processor for real-time job or transaction control is then described, along with the architecture of the B-6500 computer. Subsequent chapters focus on the use and performance of memory hierarchies; the use of extended core storage in a multiprogramming operating system; methods of improving software development; and techniques for automatic program translation. The final chapter considers the extensibility of FORTRAN. This book is intended for scientists, engineers, and educators in the field of computer and information science.

Book Synopsis Computer Literacy by : Robert J. Seidel
Download or read book Computer Literacy written by Robert J. Seidel and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer Literacy: Issues and Directions for 1985 is based on a conference entitled "National Goals for Computer Literacy in 1985", held in Reston, Virginia, on December 18-20, 1980, under the auspices of the National Science Foundation. The conference provided a forum for discussing views on computer literacy, as well as methods for infusion of computer-related objectives and activities into existing curricula for different age levels. Issues and barriers to developing national goals for achieving a computer-literate society in the United States are also examined. Comprised of 31 chapters, this book begins by presenting four major approaches to a perspective on computer literacy: impact of computer literacy on the citizenry; major national components of a computer literacy program; development of an information handling curriculum for an evolving computer literacy concept; and a 30-year historical overview of "computer events in three strands" (research/development/technology, education, and social/political institutional). The next section considers the definitions and requirements of computer literacy as they impact society, students, and teachers. The use of the computer in cognitive research and in problem solving is also discussed, together with curriculum development in computer literacy. This monograph will be of interest to students, teachers, school administrators, and educational policymakers.

Download or read book Decomposability written by P. J. Courtois and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-06-20 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decomposability: Queueing and Computer System Applications presents a set of powerful methods for systems analysis. This 10-chapter text covers the theory of nearly completely decomposable systems upon which specific analytic methods are based. The first chapters deal with some of the basic elements of a theory of nearly completely decomposable stochastic matrices, including the Simon-Ando theorems and the perturbation theory. The succeeding chapters are devoted to the analysis of stochastic queuing networks that appear as a type of key model. These chapters also discuss congestion problems in information processing systems, which could be studied by the queuing network models. A method of analysis by decomposition and aggregation for these models is proposed. Other chapters highlight the problem of computer system performance evaluation, specifically the analysis of hardware and software of the dynamic behavior of computer systems and user programs. These topics are followed by a description of an aggregative model of a typical multiprogramming time-sharing computer system. The last chapter examines the existing affinity between the concept of aggregate in nearly completely decomposable structures and the notions of module and level of abstraction so frequently invoked in computer system design and software engineering. This book will prove useful to both hardware and software designers and engineers, as well as scientists who are investigating complex systems.
