Book Synopsis Clothing Sacred Scriptures by : David Ganz
Download or read book Clothing Sacred Scriptures written by David Ganz and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2018-12-03 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to a longstanding interpretation, book religions are agents of textuality and logocentrism. This volume inverts the traditional perspective: its focus is on the strong dependency between scripture and aesthetics, holy books and material artworks, sacred texts and ritual performances. The contributions, written by a group of international specialists in Western, Byzantine, Islamic and Jewish Art, are committed to a comparative and transcultural approach. The authors reflect upon the different strategies of »clothing« sacred texts with precious materials and elaborate forms. They show how the pretypographic cultures of the Middle Ages used book ornaments as media for building a close relation between the divine words and their human audience. By exploring how art shapes the religious practice of books, and how the religious use of books shapes the evolution of artistic practices this book contributes to a new understanding of the deep nexus between sacred scripture and art.
Book Synopsis The Revelation of Jesus by : J. Preston Eby
Download or read book The Revelation of Jesus written by J. Preston Eby and published by . This book was released on 2013-10-24 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kingdom Bible Study's From the Candlestick to the Throne Book One coveringThe Revelation of Jesus Christ from the book of Revelation Chapter 1:1 - 1:16This is the First of Eight current biblical study guides being made available through Kindle. The book of Revelation is THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST. The book of Revelation is a book that teaches who and what Jesus Christ is. It reveals Him in all of His fullness. In "The Candle Stick To The Throne" study course on the Revelation you will begin to discover through the power of the Holy Spirit that in the book of Revelation Jesus the Christ is in every chapter of the book, for it is the revelation of Himself. When we read the message of the Revelation with a heart that seeks after Christ, we see in every page His face and hear from every line His voice. If we do not see Christ in the pages of the Revelation then all we see is vanity. By drawing near to this book in the power of the Holy Spirit we drew near to Christ. As dew distilling from the heavens comes the revelation of Jesus Christ from every page of John's vision. It is the drama of God's great plan of the ages wrought out first in the saints, then in the nations, and finally in all the vast creations of God. How beautiful that is!The book of revelation is the Sixth Gospel of Jesus Christ. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John wrote what they saw of Jesus Christ on the earth in the days of His flesh. Luke, in the book of Acts wrote of the revelation of Jesus that came by the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost and throughout the in-part realm of the earnest of the Spirit during the Church age. But John in the book of Revelation wrote what he witnessed of the full and complete revelation of Jesus Christ that comes to and through "him that overcomes." In the revelation of Jesus Christ in sons upon Mount Zion, in the Manchild on the throne, and in the New Jerusalem come down from God out of heaven. John wrote in the Revelation what he saw of the ascended and glorified Christ manifesting out of the heavens of God's Spirit. The Revelation releases the mind of Christ manifesting out of the heavens of God's Spirit. The Revelation releases the mind of Christ out of celestial realms. We must by the Holy Spirit get on the horse, put our feet in the stirrups, take hold of the reins and ride through the Revelation experientially in the anointing from on High. We must be in the Spirit on the Lord's day to understand it, just as John was in the Spirit on the Lord' day to receive it. And when we do - we see Jesus! The mark of the beast. Armageddon. The Four Horsemen. The False Prophet. Babylon the great. Falling stars, stinging locusts and giant hailstones. The seven last plagues. The bottomless pit. The lake of fire. These images of terror and catastrophe from the book of Revelation have greatly influenced the thinking of millions of Christians through the ages. Revelation is the drama of God's great plan of the ages wrought out first in the saints, then in the nations and finally in all the vast creations of God. Everything in the Revelation is viewed from the divine perspective. It is not the history of Satan's activity in men, but the all-conquering power of God's Christ! It is the spiritual drama of Father's dealings in our lives. Despite 1900 years of fascination with the book of Revelation, John's letter to the seven Churches of Asia continue to be misunderstood and badly misinterpreted. It's time that we allow the Holy Spirit to reveal to us and within us just who and what Jesus really is in all His glorious wonder. As you discover the Revelation of Jesus afresh in your life and soak in the manifest wonder of His abundant life you will find yourself challenged and changed by the power of the Holy Spirit and begin to discover not so much who you are in Christ but who this Jesus living in you is and He wants you as an overcomer to a just like Him. Let the change begin. Let it begin within me!

This comprehensive study tool should be considered necessary for any serious Bible scholar or theologian. British clergyman ETHELBERT WILLIAM BULLINGER (1837-1913) was one of the most respected Bible scholars of the 19th century. He is author of numerous works including *Commentary on Revelation*, *Great Cloud of Witnesses*, and *How to Enjoy the Bible*.
Book Synopsis A New English Translation of the Septuagint by : Albert Pietersma
Download or read book A New English Translation of the Septuagint written by Albert Pietersma and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2007-11-02 with total page 1050 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Septuagint (the ancient Greek translation of Jewish sacred writings) is of great importance in the history of both Judaism and Christianity. The first translation of the books of the Hebrew Bible (plus additions) into the common language of the ancient Mediterranean world made the Jewish scriptures accessible to many outside Judaism. Not only did the Septuagint become Holy Writ to Greek speaking Jews but it was also the Bible of the early Christian communities: the scripture they cited and the textual foundation of the early Christian movement. Translated from Hebrew (and Aramaic) originals in the two centuries before Jesus, the Septuagint provides important information about the history of the text of the Bible. For centuries, scholars have looked to the Septuagint for information about the nature of the text and of how passages and specific words were understood. For students of the Bible, the New Testament in particular, the study of the Septuagint's influence is a vital part of the history of interpretation. But until now, the Septuagint has not been available to English readers in a modern and accurate translation. The New English Translation of the Septuagint fills this gap.

Book Synopsis The Pastor's Handbook KJV by : Moody Publishers
Download or read book The Pastor's Handbook KJV written by Moody Publishers and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2006-06-01 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pastor's Handbook (KJV) is intended to meet the continuing need of the Christian minister for guidance and forms as he does the work of the ministry. It seeks to offer options to suit the tastes of the pastor and congregation within the parameters of quality, beauty and dignity. To this end, numerous changes, both large and small, have been made—more selected Scriptures, new alternatives for special occasions, some significant additions and changes. At the same time, every effort has been made to keep the book concise and compact to maximize its usefulness. The formulas should be sufficient for the ordinary needs of the minister. They may be modified or supplemented by materials from the pastor's private collection or his own preparation. Some who stress liberty in prayer and preaching dislike set forms, preferring spontaneity and a free style as they worship. If the spiritual vitality of a church is maintained there need be no fear that these forms will become lifeless rituals. The use of forms should never become merely formal. And if the use of forms adds beauty and dignity to the atmosphere of sacredness, who can object? May the blessing of God attend all who glean from this manual, enabling it them to know what to say and how to say it. This is made also for allowing them to know what to do and how to do it especially as the occasion requires. Gratitude is expressed to many pastors and contributors for this volume. Includes the: worship service, baptism, communion, funerals, anointing services, healing services, membership, installation, baby and child dedication, consecration services, ceremonies for buildings and visitation.
