This book was released on 1949 with total page 646 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aerodynamic forces and moments exerted on pitched and yawed wing-body combinations consisting of a slender body of revolution and a cruciform arrangement of thin wings have been investigated by two theoretical methods. One method, an extension of the slender wing-body theory of NACA TN No. 1662, makes possible the determination of simple closed expressions for the load distribution, of simple closed expressions for the load distribution, the forces, and the moments for slender cruciform-wing and body combinations in which the wings may be dissimilar plan form. The second method treats cruciform-wing and body combinations consisting of a body of revolution and identical wings of arbitrary aspect ratio and plan form. The results are valid at subsonic, transonic, and supersonic speeds.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aerodynamics, the study of air motion around solid objects, allows us to understand and measure the dominating forces acting on aircrafts, buildings, bridges, automobiles, and other structures. The forces that result in an aircraft overcoming gravity and drag are called thrust and lift. Various parameters such as geometrical configurations of objects, as well as physical properties of air, which may be functions of position and time, affect those forces. This book covers some of the latest studies regarding the application of the principles of aerodynamics to the design of many different engineered objects. This book will be of interest to mechanical and aerospace engineering students, academics, and researchers who are looking for new insights into this fascinating branch of fluid mechanics.

Book Synopsis Stability and Control of Airplanes and Helicopters by : Edward Seckel
Download or read book Stability and Control of Airplanes and Helicopters written by Edward Seckel and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 523 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stability and Control of Airplanes and Helicopters deals with aircraft flying qualities that determine the stability and control of airplanes and helicopters. It includes problems based on real aircraft, selected to represent the gamut from simple to complicated, and from conventional utility designs to futuristic research types. Many of these problems involve comparison of theory and experiment to demonstrate their mutual relationship. Comprised of 25 chapters, this book begins with a discussion on the aerodynamics of the component parts related to the lift and moment characteristics of an airplane, including wings and associated accessories; bodies such as fuselages, nacelles, and tip tanks; and control surfaces. The reader is then introduced to some mathematical techniques for linear differential equations; steady flight at different speeds; and stick force and control-free stability. Subsequent chapters focus on flaps and high-lift devices; power and compressibility effects; and the manner in which the aircraft responds to the application of control. Aeroelasticity and longitudinal equations of motion are also examined. This monograph is intended for undergraduate and graduate students taking modern engineering courses.

Book Synopsis Missile Dynamics Equations for Guidance and Control Modeling and Analysis by : Philip N. Jenkins
Download or read book Missile Dynamics Equations for Guidance and Control Modeling and Analysis written by Philip N. Jenkins and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents some techniques used in deriving the equations of motion of a missile for a six-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) simulation. Several forms of the equations are developed, and their implementation is discussed. Specific emphasis is placed on showing the interrelation of the equation forms currently in use by showing their development from the basic laws. This report is meant to serve as a primer for new engineers and as a reference for all engineers involved in missile flight simulation.
Book Synopsis Damping-in-roll Calculations for Slender Swept-back Wings and Slender Wing-body Combinations by : Harvard Lomax
Download or read book Damping-in-roll Calculations for Slender Swept-back Wings and Slender Wing-body Combinations written by Harvard Lomax and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The damping-in-roll parameter C(iota)(p) is calculated theoretically for triangular wings on cylindrical bodies and for a class of wings with sweptback plan forms. The analysis is based on the usual assumptions of linearized compressible-flow theory together with the added restrictions that at the free-stream Mach number M(omicron) the product of lM(omicron)(2) and the streamwise velocity gradient is small.
Book Synopsis Linearized Lifting-surface Theory for Swept-back Wings with Slender Plan Forms by : Harvard Lomax
Download or read book Linearized Lifting-surface Theory for Swept-back Wings with Slender Plan Forms written by Harvard Lomax and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spanwise and chordwise distribution of loading, the lift, and the induced drag of a swept-back wing of slender plan form are developed by means of linearized lifting-surface theory. The results are applicable for all free-stream Mach numbers. The term slender implies that the ratio of the reduced span to over-all length of the wing is small.
Book Synopsis Elastic Buckling of Outstanding Flanges Clamped at One Edge and Reinforced by Bulbs at Other Edge by : Stanley Goodman
Download or read book Elastic Buckling of Outstanding Flanges Clamped at One Edge and Reinforced by Bulbs at Other Edge written by Stanley Goodman and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The compressive buckling stress of outstanding flanges reinforced by bulbs was computed by the strain-energy method for flanges having 10 shapes and a range of lengths. The results were checked for some cases by computations based on a differential-quation method. The edge of the flange opposite the bulb was considered clamped, and the loaded ends were considered simply supported.
Book Synopsis Theoretical Damping in Roll and Rolling Effectiveness of Slender Cruciform Wings by : Gaynor J. Adams
Download or read book Theoretical Damping in Roll and Rolling Effectiveness of Slender Cruciform Wings written by Gaynor J. Adams and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The coefficients of damping in roll and rolling effectiveness (with differential incidence of the horizontal surfaces) are determined for a slender, equal-span, cruciform wing. It is found that the coefficient of damping in ar roll is 62 percent greater than for a plane slender wing of equal aspect ratio, and that the rolling effectiveness is 53 percent less than for a plane slender wing of equal aspect ratio. The analysis can be used in the estimation of the characteristics of a slender, equal-span, cruciform wing having any specified distribution of normal velocity components on the horizontal and vertical surfaces.
