Nozzles were designed by the m tho of characteristics for high-temperature air in dissociative and vibrational equilibrium. Since non-equilibriu flow was e pected to occur under many conditions, the effect of a fi ite O r co binatio r te on the flow in hyper onic nozzles was determine for a wide rang of supply conditions. This book was released on 1978 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computer program is presented for the aerodynamic design of axisymmetric and planar nozzles for supersonic and hypersonic wind tunnels. The program is the culmination of the effort expended at various times over a number of years to develop a method of designing a wind tunnel with an inviscid contour which has continuous curvature and which is corrected for the growth of the boundary layer in a manner such that uniform parallel flow can be expected at the nozzle exit. The continuous curvature is achieved through specification of a centerline distribution of velocity (or Mach number) which has first and second derivatives that (1) are compatible with a transonic solution near the throat and with radial flow near the inflection point and (2) approach zero at the design Mach number. The boundary-layer growth is calculated by solving a momentum integral equation by numerical integration.

Book excerpt: NOL's Hypersonic Tunnel No. 4 is a continuous blow-down hypersonic tunnel designed for research and development testing of models, instrumentation, and wind tunnel components. It can operate at Mach numbers from 5 to 10 with supply pressures up to 52 atmospheres and supply temperatures up to 1700 R. This report summarizes the pertinent aerodynamic design criteria and operating experience compiled during its first eleven years of operation. Included are descriptions of the major components and their performance along with the flight simulation capability of the facility and a bibliography of previously published reports. (Author).
