Hammond and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wind-tunnel investigation has been made at low speed in the Langley 300 MPH 7- by 10-foot tunnel to determine the effect of deflector projection on the control effectiveness of spoiler-slot-deflectors on a 30 degree sweptback wing-fuselage model equipped with either a 15-percent-chord spoiler or a spoiler-slot-deflector that extended from the 20- to the 99-percent-semispan station of the right ring. The wing had an aspect ratio of 3, a taper ratio of 0.5, and NACA 65A004 airfoil section. The tests were made at angles of attack from -4 to 24 degrees at Mach number of 0.26 for control projections from 0 to 12 percent chord. The deflector of the spoiler-slot-deflector configuration was tested at projections from zero to a projection equal to the spoiler projection at each spoiler projection.

Download or read book Effects of Overhang Balance on the Hinge-moment and Effectiveness Characteristics of an Unswept Trailing-edge Control on a 60 Degree Delta Wing at Transonic and Supersonic Speeds written by Lawrence D. Guy and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wind-tunnel investigation has been made of two unswept, partial-span, flap-type controls (differing only in hinge-line location) mounted on a 60 degree delta wing. One control was unbalanced and the other has a 100-percent overhang balance. Control hinge moments as well as aerodynamic characteristics of the complete wing-body combination were obtained for control deflections from 0 to 40 degrees over an angle-of-attack range of plus or minus 12 degrees at Mach numbers from 0.75 to 1.96. Reynolds numbers varied between 2,200,000 and 2,200,000. Expressions derived from linear theory for the hinge-moment coefficient due to angle of attack for unswept partial-span controls (which extend neither to the wing tip nor to the wing center line) on triangular wings having subsonic leading edges are given in an appendix.

Book Synopsis Wind-tunnel Study of Slot Spoilers for Direct Lift Control by : Dominick Andrisani (II.)
Download or read book Wind-tunnel Study of Slot Spoilers for Direct Lift Control written by Dominick Andrisani (II.) and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted in a 300-mph 7- by 10- foot tunnel to obtain data for a slot spoiler direct lift control system. Slot spoilers are believed to have advantages over flap-type direct lift control (DLC) systems because of the small amount of power required for actuation. These tests, run at a Reynolds number of 1,400,000 showed that up to 78 percent of the lift due to flap deflection could be spoiled by opening several spanwise slots within the flaps. For a given lift change the drag change was significantly less than that which would be obtained by a variable flap DLC system. A nozzle-shaped slot was the most effective of the slot shapes tested.
