Book Synopsis Advances in Nanostructured Materials Processed by SPD by : Xiao Zhou Liao
Download or read book Advances in Nanostructured Materials Processed by SPD written by Xiao Zhou Liao and published by Trans Tech Publications Ltd. This book was released on 2008-04-07 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nanostructured materials, in which the structural features (e.g., grains and/or domains separated by low-angle grain boundaries) are smaller than 100nm in at least one dimension, have attracted worldwide research interest for more than a decade because of their unique properties. For example, the combination of high strength with high ductility has been reported for some nanostructured metals and alloys: this is a rare, if not impossible, combination of mechanical properties for coarse-grained metals and alloys. Among the many techniques available for producing nanostructured materials, severe plastic deformation (SPD) is the most popular and most rapidly developing one.

Download or read book Bulk Nanostructured Materials written by Ruslan Z. Valiev and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-10-28 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the most recent results in the area of bulk nanostructured materials and new trends in their severe plastic deformation (SPD) processing, where these techniques are now emerging from the domain of laboratory-scale research into the commercial production of various bulk nanomaterials. Special emphasis is placed on an analysis of the effect of nanostructures in materials fabricated by SPD on mechanical properties (strength and ductility, fatigue strength and life, superplasticity) and functional behavior (shape memory effects, magnetic and electric properties), as well as the numerous examples of their innovative applications. There is a high innovation potential for industrial applications of bulk nanomaterials for structural use (materials with extreme strength) as well as for functional applications such as nanomagnets, materials for hydrogen storage, thermoelectric materials, superconductors, catalysts, and biomedical implants.

Among the many techniques available for producing nanostructured materials, severe plastic deformation (SPD) is the most popular and most rapidly developing one. The presenteditors invited prominent researchers in this field to contribute research and review papers, on the advances made in nanostructured materials processing by SPD, to this special-topic book. The ten papers cover a wide range of issues that are of primordial interest to the SPD research community including: mechanical properties, microstructures, theoretical aspects of plastic behavior and recent development in practical SPD techniques. This book will therefore be essential reading for those having an interest in studying or using the SPD method. Editors Liao (aerospace, mechanical, and mechatronic (engineering, U. of Sydney) and Zhao (chemical engineering materials science, U. of California) provide 10 papers that explore a variety of aspects of interest to severe plastic deformation (SPD) researchers. SPD techniques are the most popular and most rapidly developing methods for producing nanostructured materials. The collection's 28 contributors discuss several related subjects, including recent developments of SPD techniques for processing bulk nanostructured materials, plastic behavior of metals in reverse straining after large pre-strains, and surface nonocrystallization by surface mechanical attrition treatment. Chapters begin with abstracts and introductions and include illustrations.
Book Synopsis Nanostructured Materials by High-Pressure Severe Plastic Deformation by : Yuntian T. Zhu
Download or read book Nanostructured Materials by High-Pressure Severe Plastic Deformation written by Yuntian T. Zhu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-20 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, it was reported that nanostructured materials processed under high pressure by HPT and ECAP have an extraordinary combination of both high strength and high ductility, which are two desirable, but rarely co-existing properties. These findings indicate that high-pressure is a critical factor that can be employed to process nanostructured materials with superior mechanical, and possibly also physical, properties. It is the objective of this workshop to review our current knowledge, identify issues for future research, and discuss future directions on the processing and properties of nanostructured materials via SPD techniques, with a special emphasis on high-pressure effects. The 42 peer-reviewed papers in this book cover areas of high pressure effect on the nanostructure and properties of SPD-processed materials, fundamentals of nanostructured materials, development of high-pressure SPD technologies for commercializations, recent advances of SPD technologies as well as applications and future markets of SPD-processed nanostructured materials.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The processing and mechanical behaviour of bulk nanostructured materials are one of the most interesting new fields of research on advanced materials systems. Many nanocrystalline materials possess very high strength with still good ductility, and exhibit high values of fatigue resistance and fracture toughness. There has been continuing interest in these nanomaterials for use in structural and biomedical applications, and this has led to a large number of research programs worldwide. This book focuses on the processing techniques, microstructures, mechanical and physical properties, and applications of bulk nanostructured materials, as well as related fundamental issues. Only since recently can such bulk nanostructured materials be produced in large bulk dimensions, which opens the door to their commercial applications.

Download or read book PROPERTIES AND NANOSTRUCTURES OF NANO-MATERIALS PROCESSED BY SEVERE PLASTIC DEFORMATION (SPD). written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metallic materials usually exhibit higher strength but lower ductility after being plastically deformed by conventional techniques such as rolling, drawing and extrusion. In contrast, nanostructured metals and alloys processed by severe plastic deformation (SPD) have demonstrated both high strength and high ductility. This extraordinary mechanical behavior is attributed to the unique nanostructures generated by SPD processing. The combination of ultrafine grain size and high-density dislocations appears to enable deformation by new mechanisms not active in coarse-grained metals and alloys. These results demonstrate the possibility of tailoring the microstructures of metals and alloys by SPD to obtain superior mechanical properties. Nanostructured metals and alloys processed by SPD techniques have unique nanostructures not observed in nano-materials synthesized by other techniques such as the consolidation of nanopowders. The SPD-generated nanostructures have many features related to deformation, including high dislocation densities, and high- and low-angle grain boundaries in equilibrium or non-equilibrium states. Future studies are needed to investigate the deformation mechanisms that relate the unique nanostructures with the superior mechanical properties exhibited by SPD-processed metals and alloys.
