Book Synopsis Computing for Architects by : R. A. Reynolds
Download or read book Computing for Architects written by R. A. Reynolds and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2014-05-20 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computing for Architects provides an introduction to computers and their use in architectural offices. It is the result of 17 years' experience of using computers in firms in private practice and is intended to be more of a practical guide than a textbook. It attempts to show where computers can help, how they can be applied, and how to avoid the worst pitfalls. The book begins by describing how the attitudes of architects towards computers have changed over the years. This is followed by separate chapters on the benefits and drawbacks of using computers; different types of computers and computer programs; the principles and operations of databases; and their application in architectural design. Subsequent chapters discuss computer-aided drafting, computer visualization, job management systems, and design-aid programs. The importance of environmental analysis is emphasized, covering lighting analysis, thermal analysis, sunlight analysis, airconditioning analysis, and acoustical analysis. The final chapters deal with office management systems and the future of computing.

Book Synopsis System Architecture by : Wolfgang J. Paul
Download or read book System Architecture written by Wolfgang J. Paul and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pillars of the bridge on the cover of this book date from the Roman Empire and they are in daily use today, an example of conventional engineering at its best. Modern commodity operating systems are examples of current system programming at its best, with bugs discovered and fixed on a weekly or monthly basis. This book addresses the question of whether it is possible to construct computer systems that are as stable as Roman designs. The authors successively introduce and explain specifications, constructions and correctness proofs of a simple MIPS processor; a simple compiler for a C dialect; an extension of the compiler handling C with inline assembly, interrupts and devices; and the virtualization layer of a small operating system kernel. A theme of the book is presenting system architecture design as a formal discipline, and in keeping with this the authors rely on mathematics for conciseness and precision of arguments to an extent common in other engineering fields. This textbook is based on the authors' teaching and practical experience, and it is appropriate for undergraduate students of electronics engineering and computer science. All chapters are supported with exercises and examples.

Book Synopsis Survey of Advanced Microprocessors by : Andrew M. Veronis
Download or read book Survey of Advanced Microprocessors written by Andrew M. Veronis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microprocessors have come a long way since their conception. They have become formidable processing tools, and we encounter them in almost every part of our daily activities, from the kitchen with its microwave oven to the cockpit of a sophisticated aircraft. The purposes of this book are to "walk through" the current microprocessor technology and briefly to describe some of the most advanced microprocessors available. The book is a survey of ad vanced microprocessors, aimed particularly at the engineering manager rather than the design engineer. Chapter One outlines the history of microprocessors and describes some terminology used in computer architecture. Chapter Two discusses advanced computer concepts, such as data and data types, addressing modes, pipe lining, and cache memory. Chapter Three .describes new computer architectures, such as reduced-instruction-set computers (RISes) and very-long-instruc tion-word computers. RISC architecture has become very popular among designers. Chapter Four discusses an architecture, data-flow, which is a departure from the conventional von Neumann architecture. NEC has applied the dataflow architecture on the design of a very sophis ticated image processing chip, the NEC PD7281. Chapters Five and Six are case studies, describing the Am29000 and the Transputer, respectively. Chapter Seven describes microprocessors specifically designed for digital signal processing. Chapter Eight discusses micromultiprocessing and describes the various topologies currently used.
