Book Synopsis Advancing Aerial Mobility by : National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Download or read book Advancing Aerial Mobility written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2020-08-15 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced aerial mobility is a newly emerging industry that aims to develop and operate new air vehicles potentially capable of safe, reliable, and low-noise vertical flight. The world has seen a recent increase in the adoption of electric vertical lift aircraft for urban, suburban and rural operations. These new innovations and technologies change the way that we move cargo and people, affecting industries across the economy. These changes will challenge today's airspace monitoring systems and regulatory environment. The U.S. government and its regulatory agencies need technical guidance to facilitate the development of these technologies, and to create the regulatory framework to foster the growth of this vertical flight industry to the benefit of the aviation industry. Advancing Aerial Mobility evaluates the potential benefits and challenges associated with this emerging industry. This report provides recommendations that seek to foster an environment in which the nation can maintain its leading position in developing, deploying, and embracing these new technologies. This publication presents a national vision for advanced aerial mobility, market evolution, and safety and security management.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced air mobility (AAM) refers to urban transportation systems that move people and goods by air. This has significant implications for reducing traffic congestion in cities and for providing an integrated approach to urban mobility. With the emergence of drone technology and the possibility of more autonomous aircraft, interest has grown considerably in AAM. Unsettled Issues in Advanced Air Mobility Certification discusses the impact of AAM on private sector solution providers including aerospace and technology companies and goes into solutions for urban planners and transportation professionals for better integration across all AAM modes.

Book excerpt: Advanced air mobility (AAM) is a broad concept enabled by new technology with the potential to transform aviation and urban transportation systems over the next 10 years. Some of these technologies include electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft as well as traditional fixed-wing aircraft using electric or other advanced propulsion systems. ACRP Synthesis 130: Airport-Centric Advanced Air Mobility Market Study, from TRB's Airport Cooperative Research Program, is designed to help airports and other stakeholders as they plan for AAM. Many of the initial use cases for AAM will be integrated into existing airports of all sizes, including airport ground access, connecting passenger service between regional and hub airports, and cargo operations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the near future, "Advanced Air Mobility" services could fill the skies with small, highly-automated, electric aircraft that can take off and land vertically. Carrying people or cargo, these aircraft could reduce congestion, provide lifesaving medical transportation, and more. What would it take to make this a reality? Stakeholders described several steps, including: FAA approval of new aircraft designs; Demonstration of the aircraft's safety, reliability, and noise level; Construction of landing and other ground infrastructure to charge and service aircraft; Development of training and certification standards for pilots and technicians

Book Synopsis Lane-Based Unmanned Aircraft Systems Traffic Management by : David Sacharny
Download or read book Lane-Based Unmanned Aircraft Systems Traffic Management written by David Sacharny and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-09 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The age of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) is upon us, and in ushering new ways to connect and travel, this wave of technology has been compared to GPS and cloud computing. However, new technologies like AAM require tools to build, expand, and understand the capabilities. This book describes an effective and efficient, complete solution to the large-scale, unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) traffic management problem. The authors present a detailed perspective and solutions to some of the major problems involved in coordinating thousands of autonomous vehicles including: virtual highway (lane) creation, strategic deconfliction of flights, dynamic deconfliction, UAS agent behavior learning, anomalous trajectory detection and classification, as well as a set of simulation results for a variety of scenarios (city package delivery, earthquake supply delivery, coalition force coordination through the lane reservation system, etc.).
Book Synopsis Advanced Air Mobility and Community Outreach by : Maranda V. Thompson
Download or read book Advanced Air Mobility and Community Outreach written by Maranda V. Thompson and published by . This book was released on 2024 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) includes the use of new aircraft technologies to transport passengers and cargo, typically on demand. The AAM ecosystem will initially rely on existing airports, heliports, and routes, but in the future, new dedicated facilities and routes will likely be developed. The impacts of AAM may be far-reaching and affect many stakeholders. ACRP Research Report 261: Advanced Air Mobility and Community Outreach: A Primer for Successful Stakeholder Engagement, from TRB's Airport Cooperative Research Program, offers strategies and tools to help airport operators encourage and promote engagement with AAM operators, government agencies, and communities.

Book Synopsis Air mobility the key to the United States national security strategy by :
Download or read book Air mobility the key to the United States national security strategy written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2000 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since airlift was first used as a tool of national security during the Berlin Airlift, it has grown to deliver passengers, cargo, and fuel to operations worldwide in support of national security. However, Air Mobility Command is the single organization that performs for air mobility for the United States. Cm%Currently, the Air Force has structured Air Mobility Command for war, yet this command performs operations during times when the US is at peace. Air Mobility Command performs missions to support US military operations in hostile environments as well as humanitarian operations in non-hostile environments. The number of operations requiring mobility air forces has been on the rise since the Cold War ended 10 years ago. These steady-state operations seem to over task mobility air forces. This study centers on the question: Can Air Mobility Command's force structure, organized for two major-theater wars, fulfill that requirement and perform the steady-state operations in today's strategic environment? This study finds that Air Mobility Command's force structure cannot meet its requirements for two major-theater wars and that the current force structure is inefficient in meeting the requirements for steady-state operations. First, this thesis presents a primer to acclimate the reader to the complex environment and multifaceted requirements of mobility air forces. Next, this thesis examines Air Mobility Command's current force structure as determined by Department of Defense requirements for war. Then this thesis also describes the various types of missions that Air Mobility Command performs on a steady-state basis and evaluates the importance of these operations in fulfilling US National Security Strategy. Finally, this thesis recommends action that the Air Force and the Department of Defense should investigate in order to improve their air mobility capabilities in.

This book was released on 2018-10-04 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When discussing the risk of introducing drones into the National Airspace System, it is necessary to consider the increase in risk to people in manned aircraft and on the ground as well as the various ways in which this new technology may reduce risk and save lives, sometimes in ways that cannot readily be accounted for with current safety assessment processes. This report examines the various ways that risk can be defined and applied to integrating these Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) into the National Airspace System managed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). It also identifies needs for additional research and developmental opportunities in this field.
