Book Synopsis Developing Programs in Adult Education by : Edgar J. Boone
Download or read book Developing Programs in Adult Education written by Edgar J. Boone and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2002-05-10 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Second Edition of Developing Programs in Adult Education will serve as an indispensable guide for current and prospective adult educators in planning, designing/implementing, and evaluating/accounting for adult education programs. Like the successful First Edition, this revised and expanded volume presents a conceptual programming model that draws from many concepts, constructs, and theories generated by adult educators and other scholars in closely allied disciplines. The updated model, field tested and validated, enhances and elaborates on the complex contextual relationships and processual actions represented in the original. The authors offer illustrative applications within varied organizational contexts and provide a panorama of both macro- and micro-perspectives and actions of a program planning process, with examples from various fields of adult education practice. This innovative text is the definitive authority on one of the few theoretical models of the programming process based in systems theory merged with the practice ecology of adult education.

Book Synopsis Programming for Adults by : Raymond Ranier
Download or read book Programming for Adults written by Raymond Ranier and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2005-10-13 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the mission statements of libraries across the nation change to reflect the realities of post-liberal America and its emphasis on economic values, librarians have had to pick up their long-standing paradigm and move it in an endless shuffle from knowledge stewardship, to information broker, to entertainment director. Many library boards have made it clear that the public library, especially in smaller communities, can earn its keep only by becoming the center of educational, informational, and entertainment possibilities for their taxpayers. This has necessitated a ten-year learning curve unprecedented in professional life. Few librarians, even those being schooled today in our graduate schools, are prepared to shift into high gear when it comes to conceptualizing, planning, paying for, and evaluating public programs for their patrons. Unlike its predecessors that leave ideas for public programming to the imagination, Programming for Adults lists ideas, names names, and massages the already fertile librarian imagination to the challenge and creativity inherent in adult programming. Legal issues are discussed, possible pitfalls are flagged, and evaluative follow-ups are suggested. The advice put forth in this book can help you put on your show to the satisfaction of your boss and, more importantly, to the accolades of your public.

Book Synopsis Evidence-Based Programming for Older Adults by : Marcia G. Ory
Download or read book Evidence-Based Programming for Older Adults written by Marcia G. Ory and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2015-06-17 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is increased world-wide concern about the impact of multiple chronic conditions, especially among the rapidly aging population. Simultaneously, over the past decade there has been an emergence of state-wide and national initiatives to reduce the burden of chronic conditions that draw upon the translation of evidence-based programs (EPB) into community practice. Yet, little has been written about the national and international implementation, dissemination, and sustainability of such programs. This Research Topic features articles about EBPs for older adults, including a range of articles that focus on the infrastructure needed to widely disseminate EBP as well as individual participant impacts on physical, mental, and social aspects of health and well-being. Using a pragmatic research perspective, this Research Topic will advance knowledge that aims to enhance practice, inform policy and build systems of support and delivery in regard to the reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and maintenance of evidence-based interventions for older adults. The focus is on knowledge transfer rather than knowledge generation but with a dual emphasis on the dissemination and sustainability of EBP that have been tested and shown effective as well as the adaptation of practice-based interventions into evidence-based programs. This Research Topic draws upon grand-scale efforts to deliver these programs, and include both U.S. as well as international examples. Commentaries discuss processes in the development and measurement of EBP and reflect perspectives from program developers and major national and regional funders of EBP as well as professionals and practitioners in the field. The full-length articles focus on four major programmatic areas: (1) chronic disease self-management programs; (2) fall prevention programs; (3) general wellness and physical activity programs; and (4) mental health programs. Additionally, articles are included to discuss cross-cutting issues related to building partnerships and the research infrastructure for the implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of evidence-based programming. The intent of this Research Topic is to enhance practice, inform policy, and build systems of support and delivery for EBP. It is written for a diverse audience and contains practical implications and recommendations for introducing, delivering, and sustaining EBP in a multitude of settings.
Book Synopsis The Passive Programming Playbook by : Paula Willey
Download or read book The Passive Programming Playbook written by Paula Willey and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers 101 passive programming ideas that are extendable, adaptable, customizable, and above all, stealable-so your passive programming never runs dry. Passive programming is a cheap, quick, fun way to make all library customers feel like part of the community. It can support reading initiatives, foster family engagement, encourage visit frequency, and coax interaction out of library lurkers-while barely making a dent in your programming budget. Passive programming can be targeted at children, teens, adults, or seniors; used to augment existing programs; and executed in places where staff-led programming can't reach. It can be light-footed, spontaneous, and easily deployed to reflect and respond to current news, media, library events, and even the weather. But even passive programming pros run out of ideas sometimes, and when that happens, they want a fresh, funny source of inspiration.
