Book Synopsis Multifunctional Oxide-Based Materials: From Synthesis to Application by : Teofil Jesionowski
Download or read book Multifunctional Oxide-Based Materials: From Synthesis to Application written by Teofil Jesionowski and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-09-03 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book deals with novel aspects and perspectives in metal oxide and hybrid material fabrication. The contributions are mainly focused on the search for a new group of advanced materials with designed physicochemical properties, especially an expanded porous structure and defined surface activity. The proposed technological procedures result in an enhanced activity of the synthesized hybrid materials, which is of great importance when considering their potential fields of application. The use of such materials in different technological disciplines, including aspects associated with environmental protection, allows for the verification of the proposed synthesis method. Thus, it can be stated that those aspects are of interdisciplinary character and may be located at the interface of three scientific disciplines—chemistry, materials science, and engineering—as well as environmental protection. Furthermore, the presented scientific scope is in some way an answer to the continuous demand for such types of materials and opens new perspectives for their practical use
Book Synopsis Kinetics of Metal Ion Adsorption from Aqueous Solutions by : Sotira Yiacoumi
Download or read book Kinetics of Metal Ion Adsorption from Aqueous Solutions written by Sotira Yiacoumi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is intended to provide a systematic presentation of theories concerning the adsorption of metal ions from aqueous solutions onto surfaces of natural and synthetic substances and to outline methods and procedures to estimate the extent and progress ofadsorption. As heavy metals and the problems associated with their transport and distribution are of serious concern to human health and the environment, the materials presented in this volume have both theoretical and practical significance. In writing this monograph, one ofour goals was to prepare a book useful to environmental workers and practicing engineers. For this reason, our presentation relies heavily on concepts commonly used in the environmental engineering literature. In fact, the volume was prepared for readers with a basic understanding of environmental engineering principles and some knowledge of adsorption processes. No prior familiarity with the ionic solute adsorption at solid-solution interfaces is assumed. Instead, introduction of the necessary background information was included. Generally speaking, metal ion adsorption may be studied in terms of three distinct but interrelated phenomena: surface ionization, complex formation, and the formation and presence of an electrostatic double layer adjacent to adsorbent surfaces. Analyses of these phenomena with various degrees of sophistication are xviii ADSORPTION OF METAL IONS FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS presented, and their various combinations yield different models that describe metal ion adsorption.

Download or read book Nanocomposites for Pollution Control written by Chaudhery Mustansar Hussain and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-04-24 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nanocomposites present outstanding mechanical properties and compatibility owing to their composite matrix and unique physical and chemical composition provided by large surface-area-to-volume ratios and high interfacial reactivity. Freedom to functionalize nanocomposites with various chemical groups increases their affinity toward target pollutants, which is highly desirable for the selective extraction of target analytes in complex environmental matrixes. This book presents the recent progress in the field of nanocomposites and their properties, fabrication methods, and applications for pollution control and sensing. It discusses the advances in pollution control techniques made possible because of nanocomposites and focuses on environment-friendly and efficient approaches. The text also covers economic, toxicological, and regulatory issues and research trends.
