This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this new edition the author has added substantial material on Bayesian analysis, including lengthy new sections on such important topics as empirical and hierarchical Bayes analysis, Bayesian calculation, Bayesian communication, and group decision making. With these changes, the book can be used as a self-contained introduction to Bayesian analysis. In addition, much of the decision-theoretic portion of the text was updated, including new sections covering such modern topics as minimax multivariate (Stein) estimation.

Book Synopsis Restricted Parameter Space Estimation Problems by : Constance van Eeden
Download or read book Restricted Parameter Space Estimation Problems written by Constance van Eeden and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-12-15 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is addressed to anyone interested in the subject of restrict- parameter-space estimation, and in particular to those who want to learn, or bring their knowledge up to date, about (in)admissibility and minimaxity problems for such parameter spaces. The coverage starts in the early 1950s when the subject of inference for - stricted parameter spaces began to be studied and ends around the middle of 2004. It presents known, and also some new, results on (in)admissibility and minimaxity for nonsequential point estimation problems in restricted ?ni- dimensional parameter spaces. Relationships between various results are d- cussed and open problems are pointed out. Few complete proofs are given, but outlines of proofs are often supplied. The reader is always referred to the published papers and often results are clari?ed by presenting examples of the kind of problems an author solves, or of problems that cannot be solved by a particular result. The monograph does not touch on the subject of testing hypotheses in - stricted parameter spaces. The latest books on that subject are by Robertson, Wright and Dykstra (1988) and Akkerboom (1990), but many new results in that area have been obtained since. The monograph does have a chapter in which questions about the existence of maximum likelihood estimators are discussed. Some of their properties are also given there as well as some algorithms for computing them. Most of these results cannot be found in the Robertson, Wright, Dykstra book.

Book Synopsis Parametric Statistical Inference by : Shelemyahu Zacks
Download or read book Parametric Statistical Inference written by Shelemyahu Zacks and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-20 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parametric Statistical Inference: Basic Theory and Modern Approaches presents the developments and modern trends in statistical inference to students who do not have advanced mathematical and statistical preparation. The topics discussed in the book are basic and common to many fields of statistical inference and thus serve as a jumping board for in-depth study. The book is organized into eight chapters. Chapter 1 provides an overview of how the theory of statistical inference is presented in subsequent chapters. Chapter 2 briefly discusses statistical distributions and their properties. Chapter 3 is devoted to the problem of sufficient statistics and the information in samples, and Chapter 4 presents some basic results from the theory of testing statistical hypothesis. In Chapter 5, the classical theory of estimation is developed. Chapter 6 discusses the efficiency of estimators and some large sample properties, while Chapter 7 studies the topics on confidence intervals. Finally, Chapter 8 is about decision theoretic and Bayesian approach in testing and estimation. Senior undergraduate and graduate students in statistics and mathematics, and those who have taken an introductory course in probability will highly benefit from this book.
Book Synopsis Theory of Point Estimation by : Erich L. Lehmann
Download or read book Theory of Point Estimation written by Erich L. Lehmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-05-02 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second, much enlarged edition by Lehmann and Casella of Lehmann's classic text on point estimation maintains the outlook and general style of the first edition. All of the topics are updated, while an entirely new chapter on Bayesian and hierarchical Bayesian approaches is provided, and there is much new material on simultaneous estimation. Each chapter concludes with a Notes section which contains suggestions for further study. This is a companion volume to the second edition of Lehmann's "Testing Statistical Hypotheses".

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Keeping pace with the latest developments in all branches of statistical science. Encyclopedia of Statistical Sciences is the number one source of information on statistical theory, methods, and applications for researchers and clinicians. This new volume is the last of three updates designed to bring the Encyclopedia in line with new and emerging topics and important advances in statistical science made over the past decade. Each self-contained entry is written by a leader in the field and easily understood by readers with a modest statistical background. In addition to the main selections, which feature fascinating discussions of developments in various branches of the statistical sciences, readers will find a series of shorter entries ranging in subject matter from the lives of pioneers in statistics to updates of earlier articles and reviews of statistical agencies and journals. Up-to-date bibliographies, thorough cross-referencing, and extensive indexing facilitate quick access to specific information and provide an indispensable platform for further study and research. A cumulative index and listing of all the entries in the 13 volumes of the Encyclopedia, together with the corresponding authors, are included. With the publication of this update installment, the Encyclopedia of Statistical Sciences retains its position as the only cutting-edge reference of choice for those working in statistics, probability theory, biostatistics, quality control, and economics and in applications of statistical methods in sociology, engineering, computer and communication science, biomedicine, psychology, and many other areas.
