Book Synopsis Research in Adaptive and Decentralized Stochastic Control by : Steven I. Marcus
Download or read book Research in Adaptive and Decentralized Stochastic Control written by Steven I. Marcus and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Significant progress was made in a number of aspects of stochastic systems. The problem of adaptive control of priority assignment in queueing systems was solved. A distance-measures approach to the problem of approximation and identification of queueing systems was studied. A problem of adaptively controlling a discounted-reward finite-state Markov decision process was solved. Major new results were obtained for the problem of adaptive control with incomplete observations. In particular, the author studied in depth a problem of adaptive control with incomplete observations, in which the state is a finite state Markov process. In addition, earlier work on asymptotic approximations in non-linear filtering was completed. (Author).

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 28 (thesis year 1 983) a total of 10,661 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 197 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 28 reports theses submitted in-1983, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Download or read book Adaptive Markov Control Processes written by Onesimo Hernandez-Lerma and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with a class of discrete-time stochastic control processes known as controlled Markov processes (CMP's), also known as Markov decision processes or Markov dynamic programs. Starting in the mid-1950swith Richard Bellman, many contributions to CMP's have been made, and applications to engineering, statistics and operations research, among other areas, have also been developed. The purpose of this book is to present some recent developments on the theory of adaptive CMP's, i. e. , CMP's that depend on unknown parameters. Thus at each decision time, the controller or decision-maker must estimate the true parameter values, and then adapt the control actions to the estimated values. We do not intend to describe all aspects of stochastic adaptive control; rather, the selection of material reflects our own research interests. The prerequisite for this book is a knowledgeof real analysis and prob ability theory at the level of, say, Ash (1972) or Royden (1968), but no previous knowledge of control or decision processes is required. The pre sentation, on the other hand, is meant to beself-contained,in the sensethat whenever a result from analysisor probability is used, it is usually stated in full and references are supplied for further discussion, if necessary. Several appendices are provided for this purpose. The material is divided into six chapters. Chapter 1 contains the basic definitions about the stochastic control problems we are interested in; a brief description of some applications is also provided.

Book Synopsis Controlled Queueing Systems by : Mikhail Yu. Kitaev
Download or read book Controlled Queueing Systems written by Mikhail Yu. Kitaev and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-08-30 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book completely devoted to controlled queueing systems. The book gathers the newest results of the theory of Markov decision processes related to queueing models and demonstrates their applications to main types of control in queueing systems, including control of arrivals, control of service mechanism, and control of service discipline. Emphasis is placed on conditions providing further "good" structural properties of Markov optimal strategies such as monotonicity, threshold or hysteretic character, and priority. Each chapter is followed by exercises, most of which allow the reader to complete technical fragments of proofs. The text assumes the reader is familiar with standard courses of analysis, probability theory, and queueing theory.

Book Synopsis Recent Advances in Learning Automata by : Alireza Rezvanian
Download or read book Recent Advances in Learning Automata written by Alireza Rezvanian and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-17 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects recent theoretical advances and concrete applications of learning automata (LAs) in various areas of computer science, presenting a broad treatment of the computer science field in a survey style. Learning automata (LAs) have proven to be effective decision-making agents, especially within unknown stochastic environments. The book starts with a brief explanation of LAs and their baseline variations. It subsequently introduces readers to a number of recently developed, complex structures used to supplement LAs, and describes their steady-state behaviors. These complex structures have been developed because, by design, LAs are simple units used to perform simple tasks; their full potential can only be tapped when several interconnected LAs cooperate to produce a group synergy. In turn, the next part of the book highlights a range of LA-based applications in diverse computer science domains, from wireless sensor networks, to peer-to-peer networks, to complex social networks, and finally to Petri nets. The book accompanies the reader on a comprehensive journey, starting from basic concepts, continuing to recent theoretical findings, and ending in the applications of LAs in problems from numerous research domains. As such, the book offers a valuable resource for all computer engineers, scientists, and students, especially those whose work involves the reinforcement learning and artificial intelligence domains.
