Book Synopsis Enabling Flexibility in Process-Aware Information Systems by : Manfred Reichert
Download or read book Enabling Flexibility in Process-Aware Information Systems written by Manfred Reichert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-28 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today’s dynamic business world, the success of a company increasingly depends on its ability to react to changes in its environment in a quick and flexible way. Companies have therefore identified process agility as a competitive advantage to address business trends like increasing product and service variability or faster time to market, and to ensure business IT alignment. Along this trend, a new generation of information systems has emerged—so-called process-aware information systems (PAIS), like workflow management systems, case handling tools, and service orchestration engines. With this book, Reichert and Weber address these flexibility needs and provide an overview of PAIS with a strong focus on methods and technologies fostering flexibility for all phases of the process lifecycle (i.e., modeling, configuration, execution and evolution). Their presentation is divided into six parts. Part I starts with an introduction of fundamental PAIS concepts and establishes the context of process flexibility in the light of practical scenarios. Part II focuses on flexibility support for pre-specified processes, the currently predominant paradigm in the field of business process management (BPM). Part III details flexibility support for loosely specified processes, which only partially specify the process model at build-time, while decisions regarding the exact specification of certain model parts are deferred to the run-time. Part IV deals with user- and data-driven processes, which aim at a tight integration of processes and data, and hence enable an increased flexibility compared to traditional PAIS. Part V introduces existing technologies and systems for the realization of a flexible PAIS. Finally, Part VI summarizes the main ideas of this book and gives an outlook on advanced flexibility issues. The book’s target groups include researchers, PhD students and Master students in the field of information systems. After reading the book, they will better understand PAIS flexibility aspects. To support the easy use as a textbook, a series of exercises is provided at the end of each chapter and slides and further teaching material are available on the book’s web site www.flexible-processes.com. Professionals specializing in business process management (BPM) who want to obtain a good understanding of flexibility challenges in BPM and state-of-the-art solutions will also benefit from the presentations of open source as well as commercial process management systems and related practical scenarios.

This book was released on 2010-10-29 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume constitutes the proceedings of the Second Working Conference on Practice-Driven Research on Enterprise Transformation (PRET), held in Delft, The Netherlands, on November 11, 2010. PRET acts as a platform to bridge the gap between theory and practice, and strives for synergy and cross-fertilization between industry and academia. Thus all authors have been asked to combine theory and practice by using real-life case studies and referring to practical experiences. The 9 papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 24 submissions, and are grouped in three sections on situational transformation; portfolio, program and project management; and enterprise architecture to align business and IT.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant productivity depends upon the photosynthetic conversion of the light energy into chemical energy stored in the biomass of plants. An intermediate step in this energy conversion process is electron transfer and proton translocation. At present, several research groups are working on projects that are expected to lead to rapid improvement of our understanding of the photosynthetic process. This book is a compilation of the work being done on the applications of molecular biology and bioenergetics of photosynthesis.

This book was released on 2014-05-14 with total page 1335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turning Information into Knowledge Science of Synthesis: Houben-Weyl Methods of Molecular Transformations is the entirely new edition of the acclaimed reference series, Houben-Weyl, the standard synthetic chemistry resource since 1909. This new edition is published in English and will comprise of 48 volumes published between the years 2000 and 2008. Science of Synthesis is a quality reference work developed by a highly esteemed editorial board to provide a comprehensive and critical selection of reliable organic and organometallic synthetic methods. Science of Synthesis is designed to be the first point of reference when searching for a synthesis strategy. This volume covers the synthesis of five-membered heterocyclic compounds with either two nitrogen or phosphorus atoms or five-membered heterocycles containing both one nitrogen and one phosphorus atom. The oxidation state of the described heterocycles corresponds to the maximum unsaturation. Maximum unsaturation means that the cyclic conjugation in the five-membered ring must not be interrupted by either an sp3-hybridized carbon atom or a heteroatom incapable of pi-conjugation.
