Download or read book Stop Acting Like an Animal! written by Elgren T. Green and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2016-08-22 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stop Acting Like an Animal! by Elgren T. Green Ever have the feeling like “something is missing” and you feel incomplete in many areas of life? This feeling of emptiness is your poor intelligent soul/spirit calling out to be freed from the bondage of the physical body and brain. The physicist David Bohm stated, “Who we are is much greater than what we perceive ourselves to be.” Follow Elgren T. Green on a journey of fourteen plus years of research and study of freeing the spirit to become a divine expression. This is a clue to “one having dominion over the earth,” hence, the human body. Humanity may overlook the fact that the brain is the home where the mind resides, manifesting intelligence while the brain manifests intellect. The mind has a higher calling, dealing with our purpose in life; while the brain only impels career choices, enhancing emotional and/or mental concerns at times.

Download or read book Being a Beast written by Charles Foster and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2016-06-21 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A passionate naturalist explores what it’s really like to be an animal—by living like them How can we ever be sure that we really know the other? To test the limits of our ability to inhabit lives that are not our own, Charles Foster set out to know the ultimate other: the non-humans, the beasts. And to do that, he tried to be like them, choosing a badger, an otter, a fox, a deer, and a swift. He lived alongside badgers for weeks, sleeping in a sett in a Welsh hillside and eating earthworms, learning to sense the landscape through his nose rather than his eyes. He caught fish in his teeth while swimming like an otter; rooted through London garbage cans as an urban fox; was hunted by bloodhounds as a red deer, nearly dying in the snow. And he followed the swifts on their migration route over the Strait of Gibraltar, discovering himself to be strangely connected to the birds. A lyrical, intimate, and completely radical look at the life of animals—human and other—Being a Beast mingles neuroscience and psychology, nature writing and memoir to cross the boundaries separating the species. It is an extraordinary journey full of thrills and surprises, humor and joy. And, ultimately, it is an inquiry into the human experience in our world, carried out by exploring the full range of the life around us.

Download or read book Feeling Like It written by Tamar Schapiro and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-02-18 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Feeling like doing something is not the same as deciding to do it. You may have an inclination to do it, but there is still a moment where you can decide to do it or not. This moment of decision presents a puzzle: if being inclined to do something is a form of motivation, or self-movement, how can we be passive in relation to our own self-movement? Is our relationship to our inclinations like that of a rider to a horse, or is it rather like our relationship to spontaneous judgments or perceptions? Schapiro shows that familiar theories of inclination fail to provide compelling answers to these questions, as they make being inclined to perform an action either too similar or too dissimilar to the action itself. Schapiro puts forward a Kant-inspired "inner animal" view, which holds that when you are merely inclined to act, the instinctive part of yourself is already active, while the rest of you is not. The moment of decision is your will at a crossroads. Feeling Like It provides a concise and accessible investigation of a new problem at the intersection of ethics, philosophy of action, and philosophy of mind.
Download or read book Animals in Film written by Jonathan Burt and published by Reaktion Books. This book was released on 2004-02-03 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Salvador Dalí to Walt Disney, animals have been a constant yet little-considered presence in film. Indeed, it may come as a surprise to learn that animals were a central inspiration to the development of moving pictures themselves. In Animals in Film, Jonathan Burt points out that the mobility of animals presented technical and conceptual challenges to early film-makers, the solutions of which were an important factor in advancing photographic technology, accelerating the speed of both film and camera. The early filming of animals also marked one of the most significant and far-reaching changes in the history of animal representation, and has largely determined the way animals have been visualized in the twentieth century. Burt looks at the extraordinary relation-ship between animals, cinema and photography (including the pioneering work of Eadweard Muybridge and Jules-Etienne Marey) and the technological developments and challenges posed by the animal as a specific kind of moving object. Animals in Film is a shrewd account of the politics of animals in cinema, of how movies and video have developed as weapons for animal rights activists, and of the roles that animals have played in film, from the avant-garde to Hollywood.
Book Synopsis The Scavengers' Manifesto by : Anneli Rufus
Download or read book The Scavengers' Manifesto written by Anneli Rufus and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2009-03-19 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Destined to become the bible for a bold new subculture of eco-minded people who are creating a lifestyle out of recycling, reusing, and repurposing rather than buying new. An exciting new movement is afoot that brings together environmentalists, anticonsumerists, do-it-yourselfers, bargain-hunters, and treasure-seekers of all stripes. You can see it in the enormous popularity of many websites: millions of Americans are breaking free from the want-get-discard cycle by which we are currently producing approximately 245 million tons of waste every day (that's 4.5 pounds per person, per day!). In The Scavengers' Manifesto, Anneli Rufus and Kristan Lawson invite readers to discover one of the most gratifying (and inexpensive) ways there is to go green. Whether it's refurbishing a discarded wooden door into a dining-room table; finding a bicycle on freecycle.org; or giving a neighbor who just had a baby that cute never-used teddy bear your child didn't bond with, in this book Rufus and Lawson chart the history of scavenging and the world-changing environmental and spiritual implications of "Scavenomics," and offer readers a framework for adopting scavenging as a philosophy and a way of life.

Book Synopsis Pride Goes Before Destruction by : Matthew A. King
Download or read book Pride Goes Before Destruction written by Matthew A. King and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-06-20 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The exciting follow-up to I Will Abolish the Bow: Christianity, Personhood, and the End of Animal Exploitation, Pride Goes Before Destruction takes a critical look at factory farming, which is driven by humanity’s pride towards animals. Fitting to the title, this relationship with animals has bled into human affairs, as factory farming is responsible not only for animal cruelty but also for antibiotic resistance, environmental destruction, climate change, and many other issues. Matthew A. King criticizes humanity’s pride and offers a biblical solution to its consequences: The New Covenant in Jesus Christ. Bristling with persuasive historical evidence and thoughtful, biblical interpretation, King makes a compelling case for the inclusion of animals within the sphere of Christian moral consideration, which can help heal humanity’s fractured relationship with the planet and even their own health. Additionally, this book answers many questions and offers supplemental material to build on the arguments established in I Will Abolish the Bow.
